This is the tutorial that introduced me to 3D modelling. Now i have more hours in blender that i can admit.. and it will only rise im afraid. So big thanks to you.
That's some neat work there. I want to model an Alstom Citadis tram for 3d printing and include a motor and gears so it runs on my Ferrorama tracks. This video gave me plenty of insight on how I can model it. Thanks a whole bunch.
Took up blender a few days back, first project was a Kawasaki Heavy Industries 151, really glad to have this tutorial! Could export many of the steps into my own build, works really well, hope to see more of these!
@@renderedinblender I have seen it, but my only issue is for interiors, should I overlay it and make it from another part instead of using the exterior's shape? Because my train's interior I can't even line the walls due to the fact that extruding the faces will, as usual remove the exterior walls since it drags it
Okay so if you want a train car with both interior/exterior, duplicate the exterior and drag the walls in/ceiling down so that you have some depth to the walls (but windows still stay in the same position). Then you can select edge loops you wish to be connected (the inside of the window and the outside of the window) and bridge them using the “bridge edge loops” option
hello! thank you so much for the awesome video! i have 1 question; i am making a front coach where the front and back isnt symmetrical, but im using the mirror modifier. how do i asymmetrically edit that part? (im sorry if it is a "dumb" question, i am very new to this lol)

@@renderedinblender nice! I'm doing a major work for year 12, and for one of the scenes I wanted to do a flying train that goes through some kind of nice scenery, haven't decided yet. Just gotta learn how to animate it and then should be good! I really appreciate the tutorial though it was really good.
This tutorial is for people who allready know certain basics. if you are a total beginner like me than i suggest you look elsewhere for tutorials. Other than that great video. I'll get back to this video once i;ve learned the basics.
Hey what tutorial did you figure out to start with as an absolute beginner? I have no clue about the technical terminology the creator of this video used so I'd appreciate a point in the right direction. Thanks
@@mozeki Check out Grant Abbitt on youtube. He has a great beginner tutorial 2 part series. And of course Blender Guru Donut tutorial (I did that one first then Grant's)
Hmm good question! I have not worked with Unity, so I’m not entirely sure. However, I was having a similar issue with exporting to Unreal Engine. Perhaps if you go to ‘File’ and go down to the ‘External Data’ tab, you might be able to pack the resources (like image textures and stuff) into the file automatically? That’s what I do when I’m sharing blender files to other people
Are you new to blender? I can’t think of why it wouldn’t be moving but if you are new to the app there’s probably something that I didn’t mention to do in the tutorial that wouldn’t be obvious if you are just starting out?
I am struggling to do this 1:14. My blender is up to date but I am coping you and what my one does it completely different to what your blender is doing. Have any suggestion how I could fix this?
You take the basic default cube and add a mirror modifier (found in the modifier tab) to it. Then in edit mode, add multiple edge loops to bisect both sides of the cube so that you can delete all but 1/4 of the cube. Make sure to check the X and Y for the mirror mod so that it displays both
My main guess is you aren’t in edit mode? Make sure to press tab to enter it so you can manipulate the faces/edges/vertices separately without messing up the whole cube
Thanks! Sorry about the sound-design. There‘s been a few videos where I realized the sound-levels are a bit off. There’s another train tutorial coming, so I’ll fix the music issues for the next videos
I did not use a reference image, but I based the train on Amtrak coach class and Acela cars. I also have the image textures I used listed in another comment
@@njtransitrailfan4031 ahhh okay, well I have a few videos (like the useful hotkeys video and the blender beginner video) that might help answer some of your questions on where stuff is and how to do it! Also, in my building a spaceship video, I review how mirror modifiers work (so you can check that out too!) If you still have unanswered questions, please let me know and I can record and upload a specific video next week on how to do mirrors and the train wheels :)

You go over the topics in a way where it's so comforting to understand. Awesome video :)
Aww thank you so much, this made my day to hear :)
This is a great tutorial! If anyone runs into problems with weird insets make sure to scale your object...that should fix the issue.
Yes! Great call! I was recently working on a project and I forgot to apply scale and I was wondering why my insets were so wonky…
this might be the greatest tutorial of all time

Thanks for the tutorial. When I inset on a cylinder (for the wheel) it is oval. I'm not constraining on any axis. Any ideas?
Select the cylinder and apply the scale to reset it, that should even out the insets :)
This is great!
what's the image that u use so i can follow the tutorial? (nvm found it thanks!)
I’m so glad you found it!
I think the wheel holder is called the bogey. I might be wrong….
could you help me to make an mf67 please ?
i am not capable of scalng the cube properly like you do, if i select the one face selection it wont move at all.
Are you new to blender? I can’t think of why it wouldn’t be moving but if you are new to the app there’s probably something that I didn’t mention to do in the tutorial that wouldn’t be obvious if you are just starting out?
alright it might have to do with transform pivot point :D @@renderedinblender
That could do it! Try resetting the pivot/applying the scale transformations to see if it’s something in those settings

Press “s” on the keyboard to scale objects. I have a beginner tutorial with helpful navigation and hotkey commands that you might find useful?
How did you add the image of the Train Wheels in the Shading im making my own wheels
Normally you can just drag the image you want into the shader editor and then plug the image texture into the Principled shader
@@renderedinblender Thanks I Finished up my bogie a while ago tho, Now time to start work on my Train :D
Hello!I am learing your tutorial.
11:19
I don't what shortcut you use with " I "
“I” is the shortcut to inset faces! It’s very useful for making windows, doors, and other things that are extruded and inset from the main object.
And how to use “I” to individual faces to inset faces?(sorry my English not very good
I use “I” just make them same center inset faces.
No worries! Okay so if you want to do individual faces, you double tap “I” and it should inset each face individually
@@renderedinblender Oh!Thanck you!!
How is the block transparent at 1:25
Hit ‘Z’ on the keyboard and that should toggle transparency
Nah bro makes it sound easy 💀
Can you link the tutorial you mentioned at 2:15?
