Hi Jay, great question! I'd recommend using something on the ground to catch the guano, such as plastic sheeting on the ground. Anything right under that bat house could create an obstacle for the bats coming and going.
Great question! BatBnBs have vents built into the base to help prevent the bats from overheating on hot days, and bats generally prefer it to be warmer than cooler. However you can hang it in a location that receives partial shade to help offset it.

I’m feeling guilt about not hanging it but also worried about the bats. Do you think they’ll be OK if I hang it near a BatBnB house? It’s 6.5 inches wide (5.5 inside the house) and about a foot tall.
@@ginnyrick There’s certainly no harm in hanging it! Bat houses that are expert-approved recommend larger sizes than that because larger units retain heat better. Worst case scenario, the smaller one may not get occupied but the bats might very well use it on hotter days! According to bat expert Dr. Merlin Tuttle, he says providing 2 can actually increase a bat houses’ odds of success by 50% because it gives the bats greater choice in heat regulation and for avoiding parasites and predators. So I’d definitely recommend hanging it! :)
is it ok to build a horizontal platform at the bottom of the bat house to collect droppings? how will this effect the efficiency of the bat house?
