Selling my favourite synth is hard!

- Time to sell my favorite synth, the Roland JX-8P. I'm getting rid of a lot of stuff. Space issues mostly. The 8P is one of the best sounding synths ever made and a true workhorse in my 80s synth pop.
I no longer wish to keep things I no longer need and in the case of the 8P, I fond myself always using the PG-8X instead and the 8P has keys I really dislike too so it's not a tool for composing either.

Still miss my Juno 6,sold it over 30 years ago. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug !
The first polysynth I bought brand new in 1985, I loved it, had the PG800 programmer with it too. I eventually sold it many years later, it's a little sad that I don't have it anymore but I don't regret selling it on. As you say, it usually boils down to not having the space to keep everything, as much as we all want to.
This synth makes me think of a dead grandmother for some strange reason I can't quite make sense of 🤔
it's a straightforward video, but a necessary one
Ironically, I'm getting a lot of my vintage gear finally fixed and working and am already thinking about sampling the sounds off of them/getting software emulations and liquidating them too. If I had just one vintage synth it wouldn't be a problem; but when you have several, the time and $$$ you spend on repairing/updating them is very costly and equals a lot of wasted $$$ and playing time. Good luck with your downsizing!
Makes total sense Espen. I mean, sure, we love our 80s synths too (70s and 90s too for sure), but yeah - at the end of the day it's what you need and use, everything else is just a display piece.
That's sad, I will never sell mine since it was the the first synth I ever bought (back in 1987), and strangely I could lay my hands on a stand alone PG800 a couple of years later. It still is a very warm and fat sounding contribution in my studio 🙂
I totally get this Espen! I recently let go of my favourite synth - a Jupiter-6 - more so to just change up my sound and writing a bit. After 25 years it was time for a new home.
I wish Roland would make JX-8P in ACB form for System 8, instead of JX-3P. From all Roland emulations of classic analog synths on Jupiter X/m, JX-8P is together with Jupiter 8 my favorite. Actually in some aspects JX-8P has more possibilities than Jupiter 8 and that’s why you can make much more versatile sounds with JX-8P than with Jupiter 8. In addition to that it’s more expressive because you can assign velocity (dynamics) to filter, amp and pitch. And mixer dynamics and mixer envelope depth are also handy features for many sounds.
I’ve always wanted a JX8P and recently bought one because of your channel. In all my 35+ years of owning synths and drum machines I’ve only sold my first synth and still regret it.
When your head begins to cut a synth down to electronical components/metal, your heart says don't sell it, don't do it!
Devo but totally get where you're coming from. I'd never let my 8P go but do wish it was smaller!
If you're stuck for space Espen, stick to buying rack mount synths. That's what I was forced to do in the end as they take up far less space than the full synths. Got to the point where I was up to my neck in full size keyboards.......and I'm still up to my neck in them as I'm reluctant to part with what I already have. Still, plenty of space for a few more rack mounts.😅😂😊
I first started watching your channel when I bought a JX8P - my first analogue poly - and heard 'Midnight Drive'. I've watched since then. Years later, I managed to finally get a Prophet VS too - nice to see that on the rack. Best of luck to the new JX8P owner and enjoy the space Espen. All the best.
A sad day for all of us since we see this baby in so many videos, but I go agree the pg-8x is great. I have been using it for awhile now for enforcer tracks and such in the retro rock stuff I tend to produce and I think you wouldn't know a difference between that and the original (which I sold mine back when they only went for like 400 bucks, what a dope) once it is in the mix.
Shame to see it go, but many thanks for your excellent patches! I have them loaded on my second JX8P. I wrote alot of music on my first one back in the day, so its a keeper for me.☺️☺️
Moved form a JX3P to a JX8P to a Dual MKS80+MG 80 - JX8P - one fine machine! Congrats to the new owner!
The same reason i bought a Roland TR-8S. All TR Sounds are there and much more and it sounds really good.
Sorry for your loss.
Madness to sell this now, will be a classic.
