If Josh made these in the same footprint as his Klone competitors (eg, JRAD) I’d pick this guy up and put my money down any day. Sounds pretty smooth 👌🏼

The best sounding overdrive you ever heard... you never explained why...there are tons of great overdrives out there...and plenty of awesome clones of the Klon...why is this the best in your opinion?

Old comment but I own one of these and I've played about 6 or 7 other klon clones and this one is still the best to my ears. It's the only one that does "something" and I hate using that word because it's so nebulous and hard to really explain but it does SOMETHING to the sound that none of the others quite manage to do and that's to take the original amp's sound and just give you MORE. It DOES color the sound but in a way that at first glance may sound like it's a relatively transparent voice but really seems to just push all the frequencies just a bit harder in a very balanced way.
It's the only overdrive pedal I've used that sounds great on a medium to high gain amp no matter where the knobs are. I can plug this into my superlead or silver jubilee with a low gain from the amp and turn the amp into what it wishes it could be on it's own.
The pedal doesn't get in the way of the original amp's sound and, for lack of a better way to describe it, turns the amp into the best version of itself it can be without messing with the tone or voice of the amp itself. I have several other GREAT overdrive pedals that each have their own merits and place and use but they all do SOMETHING to the sound and voice. Sometimes it's desirable. I have an Eden Analog (long since dead company) Austin overdrive that does the Lord's work to my splawn but really doesn't cut the mustard with my Jubilee. My Master Effects Raven can take my superlead on a low gain Clapton or Hendrix level of gain and turn it into that 80's hair metal machine in a way the Klon can't but definitely twists the tone around in it's own way (the Raven) but, to my ears, that's what I want the Raven to do.
So by saying the JHS is the best, while a little hard to be absolute with that, if you want a pedal that pushes the amp a little or a lot without messing with the true voice and feel of the amp, the JHS cannot be matched.
Unfortuately, Josh quit building them once Bill started making the real deal again so if you want one of these, you'll most likely end up paying $100~200 more than what the reissue Klon costs. I've seen the JHS Klons on reverb fetch over $600 so IMO, it's not worth that. The Bill's reissues are fantastic and everyone should experience one of these at least once.

Stephen Prater I think you can switch JHS buffered and non. I’m not sure though.
