You're doubting yourself, that's why this idea came into your head, you telling yourself that you're not good enough in a certain place. Don't doubt yourself. Just keep at it
CB/DMC/CM it ain't just abt pace , as these positions focus or on move technical ability , awareness e.g football intelligence pace is an additional bonus late runs into the box , potential even more goal . This also depends on the standard of the league Euro or Asia
making the move to fullback sounds like a good idea imo. with ur speed and passing ability from playing 10 jn the past i think you could bring a lot to the position
The most important thing about changing positions is to learn the tactical and positional side of things for the position, because that’s the hardest part about the change. You’ve got the skill and ability to play anywhere.
This is a good shout. There is more wingers, attacking midfielders than fullbacks. And if u perform at fullback, the team would probably try and move u up as a winger too. As a defender myself, i can play at every position of the back 4 because of my left foot is as good as my right. I think ur skillset would fit full back the most, in todays football full backs is basically a winger(Depending on the system).
Most people I know who transitioned from lw to lb or rw to rb usually regret it after a few months because they fing it boring but if u want to u should try it
The way football is now, the idea playing LB is so high up it’s like a winger but a you can’t have as much freedom. Just focus on getting in shape and I can see you being a dynamic multi positioned player. From my experience being a right footer and play on left, you can easily cut in and take more dangerous shots & crosses.
I wish I made the choice to change to right back when I was playing. Was too proud to accept I wasn’t a good enough striker/winger but I could read the game and could ping short and long passes all day.
I think the most important thing is to get into the professional game as fast you possibly can, and if you can do that sooner as a full back than Attacking player. I would go with full back, just to get that pro experience in ASAP, then only coaches and your development can tell , many players have started attacking positions then defensive and vice verse in the pro game.
Just saying. But it’s easier to shine in a attacking position. Even if you make it pro or go to a high semi pro level. Scouts and mangers. Mainly look at who’s getting the most goals who’s assisting the most. I know you can get a lot of assist as a full back but I feel like it’s easier to shine as a attacking player
play the position you enjoy mate. left back winger midfielder, or even keeper what ever you enjoy do it. What benefit is their if you go play for a really good pro team but are not enjoying the game as much as you can. What ever position it is make sure you are enjoying it and work hard to stay competitive in that position.
Hi Sheldon. I think u made the correct decision. But, I think just playing LB could be limiting sometimes, thats why imo i think u playing LB and, LM will be way more beneficial. Almost every coach player either a lm or lb and, your midfeild experience will heavily benefit u in lm. And obviously rb and rm would be positions u could play too.
I think you’d suit the fullback position, especially if you play in a team who uses 3-5-2 you’d get the best of both worlds. The team I used to coach had a player who we could stick anywhere on the left and we knew he’d do a job. Look at players like Matt Sheldon, Kyle Walker, Ben Chilwell etc, They get themselves in plenty of attacking positions, fullbacks who get forward and create as well as get back and defend solidly are probably more valuable on the pitch than wingers, it’s a very underrated position.
I have played a whole season as a wing back on the right and left and tbf if u have got quick feet both foot ability and really gd speed mabye left back may be good for u but I would suggest to work on ur fittness and defence when u get from injury so can come comfortable in that position
Hey schelden, I am currently in the same situation as you. I have always been a winger, an attacking midfielder and sometimes even a striker while at 1m70 I was almost always the smallest in the youth teams. The trainer I had at the u16 (the last year I played with the youth) also saw me as a right / leftback because I am fast and nimble but I also had a good tackle. I changed clubs that year because the team was relegated for it and I started playing at a higher level. I then started playing with the reserves and the coach often put me as rightback and leftback. This season I also made my debut for the first team as a rightback against Belgian first division STVV. So there are already people who told me that I have the profile for that position and I also realize that there is less competition in this position than in the attack and in midfield. But with my skills in the attack (which you also have after playing there for so long) and of course as a Liverpool fan I have learned a lot from a TAA or Robertson. There is little competition as a fullback but much less if you are a modern attacking fullback. maybe a good idea to study players like James Tavernier or TAA or Robertson. And good luck with your recovery!
I Think that is a great idea. I made the Switch myself a year back from winger/10 to both fullbacks and started to play at a much better level and went to much better teams
Left back could be a great shout. Especially now that full backs are expected to be good on the ball and a lot more attacking. You should look at the way bielas uses fullbacks at Leeds United
Good idea. An number 10 is most tactically and technically demanding position in those aspects the transition to full back shouldn’t be too hard, plus you’re fast which is a must for fullbacks. Just wondering how tall you are?
Tough to compete with left footers, lot of gaffers will want left footed players on the left, especially full backs for crossing, they cut in much less than wingers. Be a right back with the ability cut back on your left and deliver well with that. Imagine if Alexander-Arnold had a wicked left foot as well, it’d be unreal.
In my opinion i think you would be really good as a winger but full back is a interesting position as your spot on pretty much everything you said as your definitely getting bigger and stronger, with the pace that you have as well as being able to use both feet I’m not really sure to be honest but I say once your fully recovered give it a go as a fullback and see how you get on
It’s a good shout bro and I’ve had similar thoughts but coming more from the angle of getting back to the best after injury. Those attacking positions are very competitive and if the aim is to go pro then you should consider playing other positions but taking your best attributes there. E.g I’m a striker but I’ve played RB for 2 seasons in my youth days and was 3rd top goal scorer on the team cause I managed to use my strengths and got equal assists with our CAM. You could do the same playing fullback using your left foot and pace to bully defenders. And you’ve got good ball control to take on players. I’d say consider it bro because now says fullbacks are probably 60/40 attacking/defending. Everyone wants a fullback who can get up and impact the attack 👍🏾
There are probably 8-10 different passes as a fullback. Deliberate practice and be the fittest player on the team. Also enjoy defending... makes a big difference. I am old school but i think you are think down the right lines but it will limit your opportunities abroad. Owners dont like spending money on fullbacks!!!
Being a both footed full back would be a huge advantage. I think its a no brainer, full backs hardly ever get rotated either/subbed I would defo change to left back if you are wanting to go pro - stay striker if happy playing the level you were at before the injury
I don’t see why you shouldn’t try fullback out, but I think playing as a right back would be a better idea than playing on the left side. Yes there’s the argument that you can use both feet, but what’s the difference in doing that on the right hand side too? It also means that the majority of the time when you are crossing you can use your strong foot without having to cut back, and when you do cut back, you’ve got a strong left foot to cross with. Just seems odd to put yourself in a position where you’ll have to cross pass and dribble with you weaker foot
I feel you should play either defensive midfield or full back . You can read the game really well and these are key attributes needed in those positions.
I think you should carry on playing cam and winger cause you already have many years of experience playing that position and making mistakes is just going to make you better.
I think if you’re 2 footed I feel like you could be an 8/6 but more of an 8 if anything, but if you do play fullback, I feel like you having the central mentality, not to mention playing as a10 , you have that mentality already, I think you might get bored of not getting as many touches as a fullback. This is coming from me who’s been in the same situation as you in that I converted myself from a 8 to a winger growing up then had to play on either wings as a fullback/winger and even center back at times because I’m good with both feet...I was sooo bored, I would find myself winning all or most of those battles and coming inside for the ball, or just pinging and switching the field a lot more just cause I could and developed that range, it’s a lot more fun and easier and more rewarding to play deeper as a midfielder where it’s less competitive and few footballers actually have the brain for it, and from what I’ve seen you’re a high energy player who could be the modric type.
I don't think fullback would really show your strenghts as much. It's a though position defensively cause you both have a lot of 1v1 and position play is key aswell. It's not something you can just learn. Idk do, would have you to see you play there
Put more emphasis on working your core and small stabilizer muscles throughout your body. This will help you become a better athlete and comeback on another level, keep going man 🤜🏽
I think that’s a good decision considering that the injury might affect your agility and dribbling long term. I hope not though, and best of luck with the recovery!
No chance mate. I’m a 10/winger, tried right back once and if you’ve never defended in your life of played there before you get found out when you play a tricky winger, trust me 👍
To my mind, you just have to find the right coach who will tell you what is the best position for you, obviously based on your strengths and weaknesses
You should be a goalkeeper you should do some training sessions to learn or you can be a left back the cause of your speed one day I hope you will be on FIFA
I’ll be completely honest and say that I don’t really see you at left back. I just don’t know if you would be good enough defensively. I think it’s pretty stupid to say you should play left back personally , I think you just play the position your most comfortable- your playing their for a reason. If you really really think you should be a left back you should talk to a coach . Also if you keep grinding you can definitely make it as a 10 . You haven’t spoken about defending as a left back which I take which isint your main strength . Defending is the one of IF not most important thing for a fullback . Sounds like a decent thought, look at bale started left back then progressed to all the right winger. Being versatile is a blessing.
This is quality just make sure u Anaysis LB position while your injured great use of time at the moment !

If u become an fb it's always better to go on the side of ur foot (right foot-right back) due to the way teams attack and defend
