With enough gain, the tapping can be heard. Usually, I would either use a compressor or light overdrive when looking for a clean tone while tapping.
I too also want have a band so I can play this song. Unfortunately, RADWIMPS isn't very popular where I live.

I made this video a while ago. Since then, I've been using different equipment. So I don't remember how I tuned it.

Absolutely love this! How did you get that tone? Like what guitar effects did you use?

Didn't have any pre-effects other than an overdrive and a compression sustainer. I recorded via a headphone microphone placed infront of a roland micro cube. A lot of the 'tone' comes from EQ-ing in post as well as adding reverb.
