When you make cornbread be sure to spread butter all over it while it's hot so it will melt and soak in. If you eat it dry you're going to be disappointed.
Funnily, they just played a Church's Fried Chicken ad. I think you need to keep in mind that what they are eating is not fast food. They are in a sit-down restaurant and there are hundreds of sit-down restaurants in the US where you can get fried chicken. The fast-food fried chicken places are competing with those, too, so that helps keep the standard higher. This was a part of their New Orleans series (streamed Dec 18), but I am not sure where if fell in the series. Watching some others react to this, I felt that Josh and Ollie were not as enthusiastic as they were at the other places they visited. I am sure you can relate to the feeling of, "Let's get this done so I can go to bed," For example, they did not invite any of the crew to taste even one item. They made a point of showing Willie Mae connected with President Obama at the beginning and toward the end, so maybe it was a place they felt they should include, for whatever reason.

Yes.. I like mine with a bit of ho ey in batter.. not touch. Then I add the butter to cast iron pan in the oven u til starts to brown.. then quickly put the batter in. ( easy to do in muffin pan too) and the bottom is nice and crisp and comes out easy.

They're at the L.A. location...not the original NOLA location. You really should try making good Candied Yams...the right way (look/search; How to make Southern Candied Yams). I've made them three times in the last forty days, and do so every year at this time. I add chopped pecans to mine though.
Best fried chicken places are like BBQ and burger places - the best are invariably the small independent "mom & pop" places or maybe a small local "chain" with only a couple of establishments.

I always add a small can of Creamed corn, in place of the Equivalent of water, in my cornbread, gives it more Umpf and moistness. James, Millie, we've been to Willie Mae's in Louisiana twice and we can say it is the best fried chicken we've had so far! We haven't had a lot of fried chicken like Josh and Ollie have, just the fast-food version like KFC and a few from family-owned sit-down restaurants that don't serve fast food and so far, Willie Mae's is the best. Willie Mae's is not a fast-food restaurant either. I follow them on IG too. Where Josh and Ollie are in this video is the location, we recently visited in Venice CA. It is one of Willie Mae's newest locations too. It is a bit of a drive for us because it is not a locally close to us. Willie Mae's in Louisiana is recovering from fire damage, and they do plan on reopening though you two must give it a try when you have the opportunity to do so. I enjoyed this video reaction! ☮💕

I’m from New Orleans & was a frequent Flyer to Willie Mays Scotch House. It was always Fantastic. I have heard that since Hurricane Katrina they have opened a restaurant in California. They have some Dang Good Fried Chicken, but I think my Grandmothers was better! But I’m biased😂

Same out here in West Texas, if I don't feel like going to a local chicken place I'll just hit Albertsons, now out here called United, and every time it's easily 7.9-8 out of 10 every time. If you're ever in Texas HEB does some pretty damn decent cornbread as well.
The original location closed down, because of a kitchen fire. I lived in New Orleans most of my life and y'all need to visit NOLA when y'all come to the United States. Popeyes maybe the best chain restaurant fried chicken, but Willie Mae is the best fried chicken anywhere. All of the food there is so freaking delicious. New Orleans has so much to offer when it comes to Southern comfort food, Cajun, Creole, Soul, and much much more.

The original willie Mae’s restaurant was badly damaged last year due to a big fire. This is why the new building is there as the original can’t be used right now. It’s currently being gutted and rebuilt but the restaurant was pretty small so needed to expanded. Hopefully it comes back better. Unfortunately the original restaurant is in the treme neighborhood of New Orleans which is known for its lack of funding and its majority African American population. All of New Orleans is pretty poor except maybe the French quarter which gets most of the money due to it being a major party destination. The city is nice though just you see a stark contrast between houses with one house being kinda nice but the next being a near wreck. It’s like a contradiction between the city and what people afford.
I always enjoy your content whether it is reacting to food, geography, lists etc. or package openings. But I especially like when you react to 'kindess' or 'boss' videos. But my favorite videos are when you 'vlog' (like when you drive around Jersey going shopping) and the few cooking videos you've done. So, yeah...I'd love to see you cook some cornbread. And while you're at it, why not make some fried chicken! Also, still waiting for Harry Mack reaction.
I’m from California and I can tell you that there is no chicken place like Willy Mays. There used to be a chain called golden bird it was very delicious and it was mainly in the Los Angeles area. It was very greasy but it was very good too. There is another chain called churches chicken that used to be good. Now the chicken is totally disgusting. I even went to three different locations and the results were the same. Horrible. I remember when they used to be good. As far as I know, there are no restaurants like wiilie mays in California that serve good fried chicken. It doesn’t mean they don’t exist. That is just mean I personally have not found them or heard of anyone saying a certain restaurant (that isn’t a chain) makes really good fried chicken.
If 8 ever win the lotto im going to fly a bunch of the overseas UA-cam reactors here to America. Make sure all of you get to texas and the south. Take you from one end of florida to the keys(to get some scale of tye size of our country. Take you to an amusement park, the Grand Canyon, a Nascar race, a Freedom Factory event, some sand dunes in Michigan.

Jiffy is already sweet, and you add more sugar? Why? I prefer cornbread not sweet. Corn has a natural sweetness to it, but, other than that, cornbread shouldn’t be sweet.

I ain’t no expert, but I’m pretty sure that an aged cast iron that’s been maintained properly imparts a certain flavor. It also distributes the heat more evenly throughout the batter. Yeah, I agree with you that it’s all damn good, but I still think it’s different.

Rabbit is much better than chicken, both taste and texture. I don’t like wild rabbit, though. It has to be farm raised.
