Perfect Reflection Milky Way Photography at Salt Flats |

- #TheGreatMilkyWayChase continues with Night Two of Milky Way Photography out at the Bonneville Salt Flats! The hunt for the perfect foreground subject felt a little empty at first with just dry flat ground to choose from until we came across the water!
Brendon was able to join me tonight and MAN ARE WE GLAD HE COULD! Haha this image wouldn’t be the same without him in there. The light pollution from the rest stop and salt mines nearby ended up being a PERFECT backdrop to a Team Photog Adventures Selfie!
The image was good but it became great with the added touch of the selfie and the reflections!
The gloss of the one inch deep lake of water was perfect for us to use like a giant mirror surrounding us! Normally you get some water to reflect the Milky Way in but this water we could actually walk out on!
Going to the Salt Flats you experience flooding off and on but this night was a special combination of really still air, dry Salt Flats to be able to drive out on and just enough water for a football field sized lake to walk out in and capture a moment we will never forget!
Keep checking back on the adventure as I go for 23 straight nights of Milky Way Photography! Night 3 I am heading to the nearby Train Trestle to give me a chance at more sleep tonight than I have been getting.

Loved the vid!!!! I wanna visit there so bad!!!!
Amazing
Impressive images! Great video again
Hi guys, astrophotography virgin here, stumbled across your podcasts last week at work and now hooked on your Astro photog vids, I’m getting a lot of inspiration to get out and photo the night sky from them. I live an hour away from the Lake District in the uk and it has a few good dark sky areas, loved you Lake District pod cast too :), anyway keep up the great work and one night I will definitely get myself out, even if it is only an 18-55 kit lens.
Yes!! Make a simple plan and do it! Just go out and try something. The more you do the better you get! ;)
Unique shot, great job!
Great pictures and video!!!
Great photos! You really found a great way to work with the light pollution! I hope you have a sprinkler set up under your truck all day to get all that salt off.
What ? no service station food lol. Excellent shot my friend, got to love those Utah sky’s.
Awesome!
Nice, fantastic image and a very helpful explanation of using the histogram for astro.
Beautiful images 👌👌
Dangit felllas. This is a shot I have had in my mind and wanted to do for a long time now. Totally jealous.
Killer work guys.
Great job!
Epic shots!! I was in Page Arizona in April for Milky Way photography and I drove thru Mt Zion National Park in Utah to get back to Las Vegas but I sure wish I would have went to the Salt Flats. I will make my way there next year likely. I live in New York City so Milky Way photography is always a trek for me.
Wow! This is absolutely beautiful! I am super excited to follow along during this challenge!!
Great shots btw a special camera is used for such images or we can view such sight from our eyes
You guys have just way too many cool places to shoot from. I'm closing down business going poor and moving out there!!!
that was really cool I really want to go can I go with you guys next time LOL just JK but I would love to go one day
Thanks! It WAS one of THE MOST awesome nights for Milky Way! The really sad thing is that it hasn't happened that way again! The timing of a recent rain or just the heavy drought has prevented the Salt Flats from having that best of both worlds moment where it was dry enough to drive on and wet enough to create that massive 1-inch lake where we could stand on the reflected Milky Way. It was truly an amazing night and I can't wait to get another one to work out like that! Would love to have you join me when I do, Lashanna! :D Keep an eye on my Salt Flat workshops and maybe we can get lucky with water when you join me! Thanks for watching, Lashanna! -Aaron
You troughly washed your car after, right ? :D Love this challenge!
Great work!
I enjoyed watching this Amazing video.
I’ll be going to this place tomorrow for sunrise and stay for sunset and hopefully some milky way shots.
What time of the year was this shot?
I don’t know if I’ll get that lucky in June but still a fun place to visit for the first time.
Keep up the excellent work.
Could you please do a video, for this image, on your postprocessing. I always struggle with panoramics. Great video and images!!!
Hey Michael! Thanks for watching and for the kind words! That is a good idea. I will work on a video to show the work I did on this panorama and give some tips on what I do to keep things easy for me with my panoramas. Not to mention, I am really happy with how this image turned out and it is going to be fun to feature it even more. :D -Aaron
Amazing images! When adding self-portraits into panoramas, do you only take the self-portrait in one frame of the panorama? Also, how many rows were your panorama?
+1 .. following !
Was this shot yesterday under a half moon? 🌙
Could you please tell me if you were able to see the milky way with a naked eye ?
Yo! I just photographed the Milky Way at a lake an hour from my house, and the water was so still, that the Milky way was visible perfectly in the water. If you wanna see my shot of it, you can find it on my Instagram @night_unleashed, but it is such a amazing thing to see. I was so happy that night! So peacfull to just sit under the stars on the cost of a lake, and soak in the beautiful scene.
i know I am quite off topic but do anyone know of a good site to stream newly released series online ?
@Zev Karter I watch on FlixZone. Just google for it =)
@Eric John definitely, have been using Flixzone for since march myself =)
@Eric John Thanks, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) I appreciate it!
@Zev Karter No problem xD
very nice hope you wash under your car to rid of the salt lol
Intro song please ???
Heya! Sorry this is so late of a reply! The song is "Satellite" by Onda Norte from EpidemicSound.com. I am glad you loved it as much as I did! :D Thanks for watching! -Aaron
Much love I appreciate it and your video absolutely amazing 👍🏽❤️❤️
Is it scary out there ?
At the salt flats, no. I have felt more nervous in other places when out alone because the trees and the shadowy places behind you make you feel like you are going to be gobbled up by a mountain lion any second! Out on the salt flats there are no wildlife and you don’t have that irrational fear at all! BUT you do run the risk of a car speeding past you so be sure you have a light or your own vehicle to deter speeding drivers from accidentally driving right on you! So don’t be completely flat and in the dark out there otherwise you might not be noticed. Love that place though! Hoping to get the same water situation again someday soon! 😃-Aaron
