Good luck bro, I been researching for like 1-2 months and still haven’t pulled the trigger on a new GpU lol. I just wanted to upgrade, like plug and play, now I’m considering an entire new build all together cuz I want them all 🤣🤣🤣. Im hard stuck on power draw with the 6950xt I’d need a new PsU too, same for the 7900xt as I’m prob not going to run a 750w even though it’s a gold rated Corsair RM model with that. The 6800xt would be fine but it’s hard not to just spend the extra $100 and get waaaaay more performance. The 4070 is super efficient but I’d at least get the Ti tbh. I also don’t wanna buy a 4070 for $600 when a 6950xt is the same price and more powerful, but it’s less efficient in terms of power draw lol. Anytbing below a 6800xt doesn’t make much sense for me with a 5700xt, I could get the 6800 but it’s like ok 50% gain for $500, why not spend $600 or $700 and get 100% gains. See where this has been leading me? The pricing is manipulative as hell rn imho, they are tryna fomo people into buying. So I’m just watching and will strike when I feel is necessary lol. I guess it depends if someone has to upgrade his PSU or not. And even if not....the difference in the power bill over two year might be also some to be considered. Nevertheless we need from both, AMD and nvidia ( and mabye even intel in the future) some serious backsteps in power-usage of GPUs. A refreshing change from the plethora of high spec based reviews out there gents. Concise and nicely wrapped up. I don't think I've owned a top-tier card for about 15 years at least and have mostly stuck to 60-70 series cards since the GTX260-216, then 460, 560Ti, 960. Upgraded that to a 970 after getting my first 1440p monitor, then a 1060 when 4GB 'cough 3.5' wasn't enuff VRAM, then a 1070Ti and after it died during the pandemic a 3060 when a small shipment landed out of nowhere and was gone in 2 days. Of course I retired the trusty old 3770K for Ryzen in 2020 so the depicted scenario doesn't exactly apply to me but it's useful info nonetheless. As I currently run a UW1440p rez I'm only interested in 12GB cards and above but I'm in agreement with iiprovisionii4662 in the comments, $600 ($800 Cdn) is just too much. I was getting very excited by the 4070 as it was looking more reasonable but now I might be looking towards ATI as there are currently a couple of games that need a min of 12GB of vram and I think in a couple of years time I think 16GB of vram would be essential. Nvidia has skimp out on vram. Mike this was a great angle to take on the upgrade path and the only real place that the 4070 shines against the competition imo. Lots of people with older budget desktop computers in this range have lower wattage power supplies without modable cables AND limited case cooling, so upgrading with a new gpu that has low power draw, lower thermals, and a single 8pin connector while still maintaining decent performance hasn't been an option for them on these latest series of GPU's till now. Hopefully the AMD GPU's that drop in June provide similar options for competition.

    I just built my nephew a pc with mostly older parts I had. The older parts I used were the: MSI Z690 MAG Tomahawk DDR4 WIFI/Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 2x8 3600/Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2tb/Corsair HX1000i/Corsair H150 XT RGB/Corsair K70/and a G600 Logitech mouse.
I then went out and bought the intel i5-12400/Corsair 4000D Air/AOC 242GE monitor, and finally after looking over many options found a Gigabyte 2070 OC from a website for $200. I wish I could've gotten him a 3060ti but just didn't have the cash at the moment. Maybe in the future. I think he should be satisfied with this setup. I know I would be as a first ever PC.

I have a Intel Xeon E5-1630 v3, will it be a good idea to upgrade to a RX6650xt or something like that?

This is a 50 class card marketed as a 70 class card, priced as a 80 class card.

realistically, it's more of a 60 class card priced as an 80. 4050 should be the upcoming 4060. Nvidia made the 4090 too much ahead of the rest of the lineup.

I'm thinking on upgrading my Queen 1060 6gb to this 4070, looks really promising, I hope to get it here in Colombia with a good price. Nice Video

This video was very informative and helped me make a smart upgrade. I’ve been rocking an Asus Dual 1070 OC since late 2016. At that time I was using a 1080p monitor but two years ago I upgraded to a 1440p monitor and I’ve been struggling in titles, having to drop quality settings or worse having them become nearly unplayable like my favourite game Total Warhammer III. I purchased a Gigabyte 4070 Eagle OC yesterday along with a few other parts and from your benchmarks it looks as though I’ll be quite happy for years to come without having to take out a small loan to purchase a new GPU.
Keep up the good work guys!!!

That's because you're doing it wrong...use NIS nvidia image scaling...it's the precursor to DLSS. You can render at a lower resolution and it will scale up to your native 2k. You'll get your framerates back.

I bought a used GTX 1080 for $375 back in 2019. I still don't run into much it can't handle at 1440p. I need a pretty major uplift in performance near that price to upgrade.

I've been rocking a i7-8700K & 1080 Ti setup since 2018. Held off ob GPU upgrades due to scalping, and availability. This 4070 at £590 has arrived at the right time for me.

Best PC hardware video I've seen in a long time! This gave some great info for those of us running older CPUs! Hope you will make a similar video in the future with the AMD GPUs as well!

Considering the recent price drops, I would definitely throw in some cards with larger vram buffers in, rx6700xt, rx 6800xt, rx 6900xt etc. These cards are all around the price range of the rtx 4070 and these cards won't get capped by the low amount of vram for recent titles: RE4 remake, Deadspace, Hogwart's Legacy, TLOU part 1, Forspoken, and Returnal all hit the 12gb wall at 1440p Ultra without RT. Personally, I think it's okay to upgrade parts out of sync given that you have to get a gpu that will last a few generations. In this video, your emphasis is on older cpus, AMD has more to offer as they have less driver overhead as shown by Hardware Unboxed. If the 4070 12gb drops down to maybe 499, then I would agree that this card is going to be competitive. As it stands now, a rx 6800 at $469USD makes a lot more sense given how it has the vram to push through modern triple AAA games and the lower base cost to put toward a faster cpu upgrade.

yep at this point in time 6800/xt is the best upgrade agree, a 6950 would need psu upgrade for the average old midrange machines
