A 7th Hour Reaction
You did see one of the other pantheon. The time beetle in "Turn Left" was a part of the Trickster's brigade.
Not only does that last line of Sarah Jane's reference classic Who, but if you think back to his last companion, before he called it quits, you'll see how it's such a gut-punch for The Doctor and why he looks so visibly upset at the end, there. "No-one's ever going to forget you, Doctor.". Right after he was forced to make Donna forget about him. Damn.
I think its extra poignant the Doctor not wanting Sarah to forget him as this is post Journeys End, and his last companion HAD to forget about him
Well, his last TV companion, not counting comics and whatnot.
1:10 “oh and the Doctors coming .. at some point”
Yeh I wonder when that will be ???
With that line don't forget about me, never could, that was role reverse, Sarah says to the 4th doctor don't forget me, 4th never could, now 10 says to Sarah Jane don't forget about me then she Says never could, like how they reversed that
Sarah and 4 said "don't forget me" to each other.
fun fact this is actually the last thing david filmed as the 10th doctor before handing over to the next doctor. not sure when the episode aired but in terms of the timeline its set in between specials.
The WerewolfF I think it was how Alex is reacting to them
After planet of the dead but before Waters of Mars
Edit : the Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith aired 29th of October so actually much closer to Waters of Mars than I thought
Excellent reaction! I love how hyped you were throughout the episode. So hyped that we heard the microphone echo when you hit the table. Your mini meltdown to the part 1 cliffhanger at 6:03-7:20 was great!😄 We had the same hype in 2009 when we saw the trailers for this episode. Easily one of the most satisfying episodes in the gap year. It’s so great to have The Doctor in SJA. Such a hype event! The Doctor bursting through the doors at the right time is a perfect introduction. I’m glad the Trickster’s return caught you by surprise too. I absolutely love the scenes with The Doctor and the Trickster. It’s a confrontation that I’ve wanted to see for a while now. I also like the small developments with Clyde, Luke and Rani spying on Sarah Jane, finding out that she’s seeing someone, K9 and Mr Smith’s rivalry and the whole time trap fiasco at the wedding venue.
Peter was also a great guy for Sarah Jane. It’s sad to see Sarah Jane lose another person in her life. The Trickster really knows how to twist the knife. It’s a heartbreaking conclusion for her. I love seeing Clyde catch him off guard and yes you’re right, the final scene between Sarah Jane and The Doctor is a callback to the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane which you saw in the previous episode with the flashbacks. I also agree about it being a good thing that The Doctor doesn’t overstep or take complete centre in this episode. Definitely a good thing. Easily my favourite Trickster episode. :)
I think you missed this The Trickster says something about the Doctor heading to “the gate”
...& the Tardis exterior is actually 11s Box, made to look like 10s.
Nicholas Courtney as the Brig was also meant to appear in this story but unfortunately he suffered a stroke so couldn’t film.
Why would it be 11's exterior when it was filmed in 2009 with the DW specials?
12:13 the doctors face 😂😂😂
I've probably commented already, but - I've seen several different reactions to this pair of episodes, but I keep coming back to yours. Your reaction when the Trickster first appears ... you're so in the moment!
One of the best SJA episodes for sure. It’s one of my top 5 episodes. The emotions, the developments and the time trap situation really sell it for me. It’s so fun to delve into the romantic aspect of Sarah Jane’s life and seeing the kids spy on her. Peter would have been such a good match for her. Mr Smith and K9’s bitchy rivalry is so good too. But man! It was such a thrill to have The Doctor finally appear on the show. The build up is so good.
David Tennant has such good chemistry with the kids. They bounce off each other really well. I loved the split scenes with everyone being caught in a different second of time. Sarah Jane and Peter’s scenes are the most emotional especially when it’s revealed that he is a victim like Andrea and the Graske. The Trickster really knows how to rip into the emotions of people and drive them to agree to his will when they’re on the verge of death. Even seeing the potential scenes where they could live a normal life. It’s such a tough dilemma for Sarah Jane.
I appreciate the fact that The Doctor is there to aid Sarah and the gang but not save the day. That role is for both Sarah Jane and Peter which sadly means a sacrifice has to be made which is tradition with the Trickster. That moment when Sarah Jane watches Peter fade away after withdrawing the agreement always kills me and when she’s alone in the altar. That part always breaks my heart because she’s so broken at that point.
The Attic scene is so heartfelt when she tries to keep a brave face in front of Clyde, Luke and Rani. The scene where The Doctor arrives in the attic and they all go into the Tardis feels so magical and the musical score in that moment is pure bliss. The final scene between Sarah and The Doctor is really heartfelt too. Not only is it a callback to Classic Who but it’s also more poignant because it’s the last thing that David films as the Doctor.
Best episode in my opinion.
What?
No I’m not biased
Hmm. How many ways could the Trickster try to trick Sarah Jane? Squirting lapel flower? Joy buzzer? Unscrew the top of the salt shaker? Plastic film over the toilet seat? In any case, this is definitely my favorite story of this season. Love this reaction, super fun!
It's never explicitly stated, but given his powers and motivation, and some of the very specific phrases he's given to say, the Trickster seems to be intended as a servant of the Black Guardian, a recurring figure from classic Who. The Black Guardian is basically the embodiment of chaos, as compared to the White Guardian, who embodies order. And... it's not quite as simple as all that might sound, because order isn't always good and chaos isn't always bad. The Daleks are a force of intense order, if you think about it, while the Doctor in most incarnations is more of a force of chaos, bopping from place to place and upsetting unhealthy status quos.
Regardless, the Black Guardian is usually portrayed as a villain. And-it's strange. SJA often references specific classic Who elements without drawing them in fully, potentially for rights reasons or maybe just to avoid getting bogged down in details. But with this, they're about as explicit as possible without saying the words "Black Guardian" in the show. Like, they lift full quotes and everything. So. It's pretty clear what the intent is.
I actually didn’t realise that Mr Smith was meant to be a Kroton until someone said on the Lost Boy reaction but it makes so much sense
@@iain9757 Yeah, and the story with the fortune-teller who saw the lights in the sky? Mandragora Helix.
This episode of SJA was actually the last thing David Tennant shot in his original tenure as the Doctor before Matt Smith took over
Oh I just had the need for a remake of The Odd Couple with K-9 and Mr Smith.
I love how genuine your responses are. Bravo!
One thing you may grow to learn if you look into the bts of this show is that it was plagued by scheduling conflicts and last minute rewrites. For instance, Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier) was supposed to be at the wedding. And if this episode seems like a big event (what with The Trickster returning and The Doctor appearing) that's because it was originally supposed to be the finale, but got switched around
I do think The Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith just beats this episode as it’s more interesting
Say what you want about the Trickster but at least he's polite enough to dress up for Sarah Jane's wedding! XD Even if he is trying to destroy her and everything she loves... It's the little things that matter sometimes! Maybe he's not such a bad guy after all?
I wish we saw his reaction to the Doctor meeting up with the Trickster but I guess that’s what full length reactions is for.
'No one's ever going to forget you'
That stings so much. I'm guessing this was before Donna
Nope it was after this was just before waters of mars
My second favourite SJA story.
My favourite is one you have yet to watch :)
You probably didn't recognise Peter. He was played by Nigel Havers, who has been playing romantic heroes (and charming cads) on British TV for over 40 years, so definitely playing to type here.
The Doctor had the blue suit since Smith and Jones (Martha's first episode).
Yes but 10.2 wore it in Journey's End and then left with it. Then 10 comes in here with it.
@@7thHourFilms oh, right. Well, I guess, he really wanted it back.
There's an episode of this show that I feel like you should wait until you get to Series 5 to watch because it takes place during that time
Well, SJA will take a break after S3 for TW S4. By the time it comes back, I'll basically be done with DW S5.
you can feel that his right before regeneration
The Doctor’s suits don’t look tailored. Way too tight 😂
I got an ad for his video.
Tell me pleeeeeeeease how i can watch full episodes????? I can't find anything worthwhile on the internet :(
You mean the episode itself or my full reaction? You can buy the episode on Amazon, Google Play, UA-cam. My full reaction is on my patreon. www.patreon.com/7thHourFilms
Man I like the Trickster episodes.
Has any reaction to doctor who got this many f#cks!?
I've watched this four times now - the first time in the course of watching the series, the others just for your reaction when you see the Trickster. Classic!
[] What do you think of Clyde's character development so far?
[] There's only one thumbs-down on this episode - I thinkt he Trickster found your channel.
[] "The only one who calls her Sarah" - I noticed that, though you've called her "Sarah" in previous vids, in the chat after this you call her "Sarah Jane" - I can't remember which vid, but I it was interesting that you corrected yourself every time you called her "Sarah".
To be honest, it always grated very slightly with me when you called her "Sarah" - I first met her in the Pertwee days, and she's always been Sarah Jane to me.
The trickster episodes are definitely the best episodes 😀. Hey Alex, you said something about a memorial for Elizabeth sladen after series/season 5.. You should react to this video...obviously after watching season 5.
