  • This episode has us waking up to a beautiful morning in Miami with flat calm water and a glorious sunrise. We had anchored the night before at Miami Marine Stadium with a Sunday crowd of party goers. The day began with a great breakfast from Captain Keith and was followed by an hour and a half of studying and classroom work.
With our review over it was time to take our first test of the week consisting of Basic sailing knowledge. The test was fairly easy and it lead us into the days activities of learning the basic components of the engine. With the motor out of the way, we pulled up anchor and headed off to sail the afternoon away. The day consisted of tacking, tacking, and more tacking. We learned to heave to, which keeps the boat fairly stationary while breaking for lunch or taking a break. We also had great wind and learned to reef the sails.
The day ended in No Name harbor in Key Biscayne with me dropping anchor for the first time. Took a couple of tries and finally set it snug and relaxed with an amazing sunset and some friends of our Captain dropping by for dinner. Second night on the hook, and the sleep was awesome.
Join us next episode when we work on all points of sail, man overboard drills, Jibeing, and grabbing a mooring in Coconut Grove.
    Thank you guys!!

101- 104 defently should be done on a monohull to get the feeling of sailing. Thanks for the video. Fair winds.

Teaching newbies on a cat is a terrible idea as you can see. Everyone is clearly in over their head and nobody has the basics of a monohul yet. They will finish this course and still not even know how to dock a monohul in a finger slip. You ripped your fingers all up on the winch just trying to do a basic tack. We did dozens and dozens of tacks and jibes, and nobodies hands were bleeding. Learning should not be this difficult or painful. You would have got a lot more experience on a smallish monohull.

Interesting take, I don't agree at all but intereting none the less.

Not bad for a look at sailing in Miami Florida, though if you are looking to learn to sail, there are better videos for that.

This is re your drone footage. I have noticed that you have the same "skipping" of the image while panning sideways as I do on my Mavic 2 Pro. Were you able to determine why is that? Taking the same courses as you in May 2020

Interesting that you're on a cat since the 101/103 are for monohulls, I thought.

Hey Bennet- I think the 101/103 can be done on any sailing vessel be it a monohul, catamaran or even a smaller lazer. I just grabbed a class that had us living on board and was focused on catamaran. So, the course went over the exact same material, same test, just with a different vessel style. Thanks for inquiring.

Usually schools use mono boats. Slip and maintenance cheaper. Some say it is better to mono first. You feel more? IDK, I have only single .
