    That kukri looks more like a bolo than a kukri, but it looks like a great knife. 1075 is tough, easy to resharpen, and a great steel for a blade like this. Then you get some nice wood handles, full tang, nice leather sheath...very nice all around.

    • @Karatemart
      @Karatemart  Рік тому +2

      Thanks brother! And, you are absolutely correct that there are some styles of bolo knives that are almost identical to the shape of a kukri, so I can definitely see the resemblance. I hope you are having an excellent week, my friend!

      Yeah, they would definitely get damaged during use, but with how they add the design to weapons nowadays, it is a lot more durable than you would think. I’ve scrubbed them pretty hard with various cleaning products to see how durable the design is and it didn’t hurt them at all. But, if it hits a rock or something hard, it’ll pretty easily chip off. • @Karatemart
      @Karatemart  Рік тому

    @VTPSTTU Рік тому

    Thanks for the video!
    I have no idea how I'm going to vote in your community tab.
    I mostly love the kukri, but I don't like when people make these weapons with unnecessary indentations in the blade. This one seems to have a bunch of little angled indentations in the blade. They aren't the right shape for microhardness testing indentations, but they remind me a little of microhardness testing indentations. Of course, microhardness indentations are barely visible with the naked eye, so that's not the same. They just remind me of that part of my past. On the practical level, I don't like little crevices that can collect dirt. I expect a kukri to be a combat weapon but mostly a utilitarian weapon. Those crevices are going to collect all kinds of dirt in real use. If not for that, this would easily be my favorite.
    The pizza axe looks cool, but I'm not sure about its usefulness. If it were a little longer, it would be great for cutting pizza. As a bladed combat weapon, it would be very effective in cutting at close range. However, I would want to have a little more reach if I were choosing a bladed weapon to use in a fight. I have done a little model photography in the past. As a photographic prop, I love the pizza axe. In a survival situation, I don't know how effective it would be for utility work.
    Of all of these, the polypro tonfa appears to win easily in terms of function. For someone who is skilled in the use of tonfa, these would be perfect for training or combat. They could be cleaned easily. They wouldn't require maintenance other than simple cleaning. They would be durable. The only problem for me is that I'm not trained or skilled in using a tonfa. That might keep me from giving them my vote.
    I don't really like throwing stars, but these are beautiful. My compliments to whomever designed them. I enjoyed seeing them just because they look nice.

      @Karatemart  Рік тому

      It’s a pretty interesting story, Stan! I started as a business manager running other peoples’ companies and then eventually taught myself computer programming and became a web developer who programmed some pretty popular websites that you’ve probably used before.
      Eventually, I bought about $2000 worth of martial arts products and programmed KarateMart.com from scratch (no third party code) at night while working a full-time job during the day. It took about two years before I took my first $100 paycheck from KarateMart.com. Now, 13 years later, the business has grown quite a bit and we have some excellent employees. I still put in at least 60 hours a week, but that’s what it takes to run a successful company. There’s a lot more to the story and I have God to thank for where the business is today because there were so many challenges I wouldn’t have been able to overcome without my faith in Christ. Maybe one day I’ll make a video with more details about it, because there is a lot more to the story. Thanks so much for asking!
      As far as a magazine/catalog goes, we do send out flyers with our orders that feature new products, but because our products change so regularly, we don’t have a full catalog. Maybe one day!

    Hi Kyle ! Sorry for my absence. I have been reviewing your offerings for the past several weeks including this one. I am very, very impressed with much that I have seen coming from you. I have been telling many people about you and I think that at least a few of them have looked you up on the internet to see what you are carrying. You have many hidden treasures amongst your offerings waiting to be discovered. The fact that you are keen on quality is what impresses me most. I highly recommend that people watching you, look you up on the internet to see your product lineup and to make purchases with confidence that your products will meet or exceed their expectancies. The Kukri made of High Carbon 1075 that you showed here is quite interesting to me along with the Ulu axe made of the same steel. The handle on the Ulu being maple is quite interesting because that is highly regarded by Scandinavian knife manufacturers as well as high end Scandinavian axe makers. Birch is more used for more commonly sold products. The cost of most Scaninavian products are out of reach for the common guy, however there are three companies I know directly have tried to reach out to help the common guy with lower prices. I know that you too like to give the common guy a fair deal with great products. I liked the throwing stars, they were well designed with most of the weight in the center and angled to lighten them up in the outer points, I think it was a two stage taper. They absolutely were not flimsy stars but built to be durable and maintainable. I could go on and on about your other offerings in the past few weeks especially in the 1095 steel department. I love 1095 high carbon. A 1075 knife that I use is now also being offered in 1095 and also an extremely durable stainless as well. It was only made in 1075 for a number of years but the demand for 1095 and stainless had to be met so now the 1095 is offered at about 30 per cent higher price and the stainless about double the 1075. You are right though, 1075 high carbon is a very durable steel, holds a great edge and easy to sharpen to razor sharp. Both 1075 and 1095 can also throw sparks to build a fire when using flint, chert or quartz and charred cloth or charred wood. Many of the new steels aren't able to do that especially powdered steel. When steels are milled and hammered before the shaping process, one can determine that steel is not likely to break in usage after it has been shaped and tempered. Tempering is the key element in how hard the steel becomes and how it holds it's edge. The bowie knife you showed was a a very good design but two elements were lacking but does not impair the function of the knife edge or point. It is possible to sharpen the saw edge on the blade but it would take a lot of filing unless one knows how to grind and retemper. There are what is called heatless grinding wheels and wet grinding as well that may not damage the temper. Oh well, I know you are a very busy man so I won't keep you any longer. I wanted to thank you for your video efforts because you really come up with some great surprises and you are educating your audience as well. I have learned a lot and on top of it all, you are a great guy and wonderful person. Thank you again and may God continue to bless you and the ones you love as well as your staff. Later, my friend !

      Thanks Peter! Wow…I didn’t realize how knowledgeable you were on knives and steel! Very impressive, brother! I actually have a question for you. You referred to the hunting knife as a Bowie knife and I really struggled with the name of that item because I honestly couldn’t tell if it was a Bowie knife or not. Typically a Bowie knife has a full clip-point blade, but that knife had more of a modified clip-point. I didn’t want to call it a Bowie knife without being sure…especially because of how critical people are on UA-cam. But, I was curious if you could take a closer look at that knife and clear that up for me? I just always want to try to give the most accurate information I can. God bless you too my friend and I hope you have a fantastic week!

      Yes Kyle, it is a bowie knife. The more accurate description would be a " modified bowie with sawback and single fuller ". Hunting knife is a good generic term because hunting knives come in many shapes and styles. No one knows what a true bowie knife looks like because no one owns the actual knife Jim Bowie owned. There are many styles of bowie knives. They are usually very big knives made as a wilderness survival knife. Blades range from about 7 to 10 inches in length, although there are longer and shorter ones. A fighting bowie usually has the edge as on your knife and a sharpened upper blade edge similiar to what you have before the saw teeth grouping. In many states it is illegal to own a bowie with a sharpened upper, that is why commercial manufacturers leave them unsharpened. They are equally effective for frontal stabbing but they lack the ability to back slice. One of the techniques in bowie knife fighting is to slash in one direction , stop, then back slash. With practice it can be done so fast that an observer can barely see the hand move from side to side. There is an up and down slashing method wherein the slashing starts at the chin and ends at the belly around the navel area, thrust in and reverse slashing all the way back up to the solar plexus, then pull out and recover. There is a difference in stabbing and laying someones guts out. One is may die, the other will die. That is the difference. I have a Combat bowie that is my most trusted knife in any situation for survival. There are times I want to sharpen the upper part of the forward blade but I have been trained to stab and twist violently. That is certain death for the opponent. Jim Bowie had to use the slashing style against Indians and Mexicans because of the rapidity in their fighting with knives. When Bowie fought he had to turn himself into a killing machine without any thoughts about it. Thoughts slow a person down and that is why we practice until our muscle memory retains the movements so that there is no thought about it. Repeating the same thing thousands of times increases the likelihood of victory in a real battle by a thousand per cent. I am certain you know that as well with the Martial Arts. My physical exercise is just enough to keep me in shape, not for combat. I am not going to do a hundred pushups, situps or run many miles in front of the opponent before I go to work on him. What my opponent is going to get is what I automatically do, without hesitation and no thoughts about it. I just observe what I do and what he does in response as I keep the pressure on him. My job is to end it quickly and cleanly with reserve for a long haul. I do not go by any rules because there is no such thing as a fair fight in combat. Combat is not like a sport. One only needs to learn kill moves and disabling ones as well and keep only those in his personal arsenal. Repetitious practice of these specific moves turn you into a killing machine. You only use disabling moves to aid in the kill. As a Christian, I despise being put in any situation that would cause me to kill but as an old corps Marine , Nam Era Parris Island graduate, I still see the need for it. Hopefully, I will never ever have to use it. I have gotten lax in my old age but am just as dangerous. They don't make Marines anymore, just punks in uniform who ride in the limelight of those real blood and guts Marines achieved for the Corps and our country. I watched this Irish kid named Paddy beat over ten Marines, one right after the other and they were sergeants and officers. I laughed so hard you could hear me across town but then my concern for all of our military guys set in. The Russians and Chinese train much harder than any American branch of armed service. The Ukrainians, without much training are beating the Russians but our boys are far worse off than even the Russkies. In my day ten of the enemy would go down before one marine did and the statistics supported it. I watched one Irishman take down over ten so called Marines. In 1975, the boot camps had the training purged and lightened up. There were some that still got the spirit of the corps ( Esprit de Corps ) but as time went on and the influence of the old corps watered down, it left us with nothing but boy scouts in Marine Uniform. Our civilians are the last line of defense and the people responsible for weal armed services want to disarm America's citizens. Martial arts is accessible to the public and right now effective weapons are obtainable. So my enthusiasm for all the fighting arts is very high. This is why I want to see you succeed because you are doing all the right things and like me you are a Christian. Again I am so sorry for taking up a lot of your time but I want you to know that I love you, my brother in Christ and again may he bless you and yours abundantly with his graces ! Later, A friend always !
