Every time I start my EC2 instances the ip changes and I need to manually edit the hosts file in Ansible master with new public IPs. Is there a way that once I start the ec2 instances on AWS then the host file automatically gets updated.
Very 1st thing....in an organization just ansible playbooks are never used alone....Because ansible playbooks alone are never reusable....its ansible roles which makes playbooks reusable....also ansible roles help you to run multiple playbooks at a time....this is how ansible is used for automation in an organization. 4 line ki playbook bata ke bewakoof mat banao logon ko....acche se batana hai toh ansible roles and AWX ke baare mein batao....because that's how ansible is used in an organization

You can do the following: 1) Create 2-ec2 instances ( Jenkins, ANSIBLE) 2) setup Jenkins by installing (Java, Jenkins) and connect to Jenkins-webpage. 3) Setups ANSIBLE by installing (anisible) 4) in ANSIBLE server create folder and playbook.yml file mkdir /playbooks vim /playbooks/playbook.yml 5) Set root login on Jenkins and ANSIBLE (passwd root) and edit vim /etc/ssh/sshd_config) 6) now setup password-less communication between Jenkins and ANSIBLE using 'ssh-keygen' command 7) now goto jenkins webpage and goto (manage-jenkins) -> manage-plugins -> Available -> search (Publish over ssh) -> install and restart Jenkins. 8) now login to Jenkins and goto (Manage-Jenkins) -> Configure-system -> scroll-down to (SSH-server) click on Add button and set ( name= ANSIBLE, hostname=privateIPofAnsible, Username=root, Advanced->Use password (passphrase/ password=that passwd root of ansible) scroll-down to (test connection) if Success then- 9) Create a free style job Configure it and scroll down to Build-Steps and Add build step (send file or execute command over ssh) (name= ansible, scroll-down to Exec-command and type command to run playbook [ ansible-playbook /playbooks/playbook.yml ] Apply and Save) Now run the job using (Buil Now) button

Assign elastic IP for your ec2 instance
