For anyone thinking about doing this for your own birds, make sure to look up accepted metals that your bird can come into contact with. That chicken wire is galvanized, which adds zinc to the surface of the metal being treated and zinc is poisonous for parrots.

And another thing to add: The birds will chew on the wood. So best is to use no colour on the wood or try to find something that's safe for birds. These colours are probably poisonous for them.

Very beautiful but poisonous 😢 the wire is galvanised steel, it’s toxic. It needs to be treated with vinegar to make it safe (they will chew on it). I did that treatment before, it takes time but is worth it. Poisonous paint on the wood too. They’ll definitely chew and ingest that paint. 😢 not safe unfortunately

Neither cotton or synthetic fibers are okay for bird toys. If they chew the fibers enough to get it inside them, it will tangle up. They will not pass it.

Definitely needs to be untreated wood. As far as the type, every bird is different, birds from Africa, Australia, and South America all have different needs. 😊
