    Hopefully the RSC Edward 11 directed by Daniel Raggett is going to be thrilling and exciting Production. Gaveston certainly was the Night Grown Mushroom in Christopher Marlowes poetic play. Elko Ivo is going to be a perfect Piers Gaveston and Enzo Cilenti as Mortimer. Will have to wait and see!

    Isn't Edward II supposed to be a relatively young man? McKellen was about 30 when he played it, for example.

      He was in his early 40s when he died; the play compresses time weirdly though, and he's described as a young man and as "aged Edward" towards the end!
      So honestly, I think productions can just pick. This looks amazing. :-)

      @@pendorran In performance, each character is the age the actor appears to be. Has to be, really. Have you seen McKellan's recent 'Hamlet'. It sort of works, but the decision to have a young Ophelia made it a bit tacky, methinks.

      @@janswanton3631 The actor has to be able to sell that version of the character. An octogenarian Hamlet is laughable.
