- The Dinosaur Ride at Blackpool Tower no longer exists. I filmed this back in October 2002, hence the rather poor quality of the video. Blackpool is the premier holday resort in England and I'm sure some viewers will remember going on this when visiting "the Tower".

The smell of this ride was amazing. Never smell that same smell again. Brings back so many memories :(

Yes! A smell hard to put into words but i can smell it now, almost musty?
im pretty sure it was from the cafe, i clearly remeber the smell too

This is very funny! I have just opened a Can of KA Sparkling Black Grape and told my colleagues that the drink taste reminds me of the Dinosaur ride smell I loved as a Child in the 90's.
Can someone please go to the shop and buy one to validate I haven't lost the plot!??? I subsequently showed my colleagues this video and was astounded that so many people mention the smell! Someone buy a can and validate my sanity!
Its been 25 years since I was on the ride! Not anymore, this can has reset the clock.
Brilliant video of this ride at the Tower, we used to take our two children on this and would go round and round on it time after time, I can still smell the 'bubbling pit of tar'.........

Oh man so glad I found this, what memories! Was there for the TowerEye experience the other weekend, but nothing can beat the dino madness that gripped the 90s
I love Blackpool to death, but I certainly won't be going back to the tower. It used to be the highlight of the whole trip, but now they've taken literally EVERY great thing away from it!
This brings back so many memories, my three sons used to love this ride so much. They are all grown up now but still talk about it today. Very sad it has closed down.
This ride was my childhood, I used to go round it loads of times after playing in the jungle Jim's and out of this world level before sitting Infront of the entertainment in the horn pipe galley
90s/early 00s was the best ever at the tower...now they have ruined it

I went on this ride a few times over the years and loved it too, shame it's gone. Loved how they blew hot air on you near the volcanoes and icy air on you near the mammoth, it also had a steep drop or rise, can't remember which, that you went down very slowly so it wasn't like a roller coaster, it also didn't just travel along rails, it pointed you towards the displays as it travelled. It was excellent.
Brings back happy childhood memories. I can still remember how cold the ice age bit was. Fantastic ride.

Brilliant!! Thank you so much for posting this video. Went on this ride some 20 years ago on a trip back to The Fylde coast from Australia. This has brought back some great memories - particularly of a time when the Tower complex was an excellent 'value for money' family treat.

As a little kid, what always gave my nightmares was the Brontosaurus growling at me! I had to cover my ears and bury my face in my lap as we went past it.
I will never forget the smell of this ride
my dad used to work on this ride and i got to ride it for free, loved it, i was so sad when they got rid of the ride
It was always free for most of its existance.
Omg used to go on this with my dad, I remember when they had that telly outside the tower with a goblin in it called hursty amazing memories

Omg is this gone...we r going down to Blackpool in the summer and am taking my child and a was hoping to share this ride with her. What memories a have of this
and finnaly, I remember after the dino ride left as you said it did turn into the jurasic walk and 3d cinema, but your right its now the tower dungeons, but instead of paying one price and everything is includded, you pay for attractions you want to go on, prefer the old ways, but the dungeons is deffo worth a visit thanks for the upload

Thank you so much for uploading this! :) I wanted to go on this ride so much when I was little, but when I finally got the chance to ride it on a Brownie trip I chickened out (I was worried that it might be a rollercoaster, which used to really scare me), and I never got the chance to go again. It's amazing to finally see what this ride was like!
I went on this when I was about 6 and I remember asking my dad if they could get us! lol

I went to Blackpool in April 1993 and I remember the 'queuing' area had a TV with a video of David Bellamy playing. He was explaining volcanoes. It was such a good idea for a ride it's a shame it's gone but I guess there are people who go to Blackpool year in year out and there's only so many times you can do that ride! I did a similar ride at Madam tussauds in London, the cars were 'taxis' and the exhibits were famous london landmarks through the ages! (I think)
Was also on this many times as a kid, first this then straight into the big softplay with the huge snake chute anyone remember that?

The ride was removed and replaced with a 4D cinema, some of the scenes were kept and opened as a walk-through however it lacked the atmosphere and audio of the original ride. I believe the entirety of the attraction has now been completely gutted, with the space forming part of the Blackpool Tower Dungeon.
Ah I went on this around this time or earlier and it scared me so much I cried and so did my mum hahaha thanks for this!!

Oh memories are made of this. I remember the raptors and the t-Rex used to terrify me as a child. Funny how you don't remember the technical things like the steps or the white backdrops though - the brilliance of a child's imagination I suppose. I was wondering though, didn't the raptors used to move through the grass and wasn't there a large t-Rex like dinosaur that used to lean out of the wall?
they were probably broken, the anaimatronics always kept breaking down
I loved the Dawn of Time ride at Blackpool Tower I wish it was back.

I don’t care what people say but this ride was sound!!! Since living here, I went on it many times and loved it. It is not about having fantastic animatronics, this rides were awful but the ride is more educational
The animatronics were not at all bad, but the atmosphere was indescribable. Left a lasting impression on me as a child.

Trex, king of the dinosaurs and this is what they do to him? He gets stuck in a tiny little pool of tar?
Anyone know what happened to all the dinosaurs on this ride I'm guessing they are all somewhere ?
In The Driving Seat theyre used in a mini golf attraction that exists in its place
Ride existed in 2002. Raptors not feathered and Apatosaurus called "Brontosaurus".......I can see why they took it out

I don't think Tyrannosaurus Rex would get stuck in a tar pit because we'll they didn't exist yet.
I suppose they just like to renew their attractions. This ride had been there for a number of years. When I returned in 2010 they had changed it to a 3D cinema and "dinosaur walk" . That's now closed and I think it might have become the Blackpool Tower Dungeon.
What were the seats like? I remember going on it and I swear the seats were like toboggan style low down. I went on it when I was 4 years old and it freaked me out as I was scared of dinosaurs.
It was more like a covered waltzer style seat. Could get four in if I remember correctly.
The wooly mammoth used to scare me as a kid.
I use to work for. the tower from 2002-2004 best working years of my life, I only worked on the dino ride once covering a staff member, I was on the exit ramp, but drifted off to sleep just pressing the buttons with no customers in the cars, on its last season they stoped the cars from turning 90 degrees to look at the dino models, and just ran in a straight line
