  • If you're at all into the guitar, then chances are you know who Buckethead is. And if you've never heard of him, prepare to meet one of the most talented, generous, and soulful human beings around. In this conversation, recorded in late 2017, Barry talks to Buckethead in his first full-length interview ever (yes, it's really him!).
    Buckethead talks about:
-His Part X and how he uses the Tools to fight his fears
-How he learned to focus on bringing his gifts to the world instead of worrying about what others -think of him
-How some major life challenges-including the death of his parents, a back injury, and heart problems-have imbued his music with more feeling
-What it feels like to be in a flow state and how to enhance the creative process
-His biggest influences and sources of inspiration, including Barry, Bootsy Collins, Paul Gilbert, Shawn Lane, and Michael Jordan.

My father was a huge fan of Buckethead. In the days after my father died I found myself listening to this interview, had no idea who Barry Michels was. Then a few weeks ago my friend tells me about the movie Stutz. That leads me to The Tools and back around to the Buckethead interview.

I have been a fan for a long time. Such a mysterious and elusive person but so extremely talented. This was really awesome, I feel closer to one of my favorite guitar players. I've wanted this for many years. More?

Thankyou so much for this. What an amazing listen this was, truly a treat for the ears, and soul! Buckethead is such an inspiration and other-worldly talent. I have been a fan of his for years, probably going on 20 years now. Seriously, he can play anything from adrenaline inducing metal/rock, to soulful, tear-jerking soft tunes. (Only artist who has made me cry from listening to songs, not even words in them! Brian is the most beautiful soul on this planet, so soft spoken and thoughtful. The love I have for him is immense, he's just that amazing. Thankyou for uploading this conversation, I've also learned a few things from what you had to say. Will definitely look into your work!

I've never actually heard his real voice in a conversation before, thanks for posting this, he seems like such a quiet soft spoken guy, which seems strange when you hear some of his really weird music 😅

I'm sure he knows it, but he's become an alchemist! Turning poo into gold, like Holy Mountain haha!! I feel like the strongest among us have been doing this for years, but what's cool is that many may not realize it until hearing this. Buckethead and I are the same age and I see we've both been able to integrate ad transmute (i.e. alchemize) a lot of tough stuff over the years and still be positive, focused and passionate. My body has MCS so I too handle pain with no meds, just breathing into it and integrating it until there's nothing there anymore (different layers of disembodied as he like to say, though he may mean something else by that...) I feel what he's saying about out of body on stage is also a form of disembodied. I loved the "I like TCM" diversion! I love how B says nothing if he has nothing good to say, even about people who may have ripped him off etc. Haha! While I've gone through some intense physical challenges myself, that made me more aware of how to strive to live life fully, I've recently learned this goes deeper and deeper, with the sudden loss of my best super homie in the Galactiverse. He's showing me where I can live even more fully, be even more authentic, be even more fearless and make simply Living the Love I am, my Legacy. Buckethead seems super grateful and I can relate! Happy to have heard this again. Perfect timing for me!!
    ❤️🧡💛💚💙💙💜

Thank you so much for sharing this. Being so open is helping a lot of us. The reasons that are holding a lot of us back seem to be similar. I have been a fan of Buckethead for several years after I found you on youtube. Only seen Buckethead in concert once, hope there will be more opportunities.

Buckethead is smart to hide himself. He seems ashamed of his fears, but they got him this far. He’s emotionally shielded, and he wears a disguise. My thinking is, “Right - good! Exactly.”
All he needs to do is learn about why he needs a shield and against whom, so that he can be easier on himself about it.

We all have fears. Healthy adults known how to manage fears. For most people those fears solidify in the crucial first 7 years of life. Childhood trauma! It's responsible for most of the misery people experience as adults. The problem is that as an adult whatever traumatized you as a child can manifest in strange and unexpected ways, which is why some people spend a lifetime in therapy. Question is, what are you afraid of? It all goes down in the first 7 years of life.

@HigherPlanes I'm 71, and fear ruled my life when I was a child. I was scared of everything that it might hurt me. You get these fears instilled upon you, without knowing how to deal with it. I can remember my infancy to this day. That's a hard fact! Buckethead is what I wish I could do. I admire his life as a human, life giving man.
Thank you Brian Patrick Carroll 🙏 for BUCKETHEAD!
