I’ve been following and watching your videos. Your really helping me to start my very own dump truck business with out even knowing me. I just want thank you for being open with your day to day and the Ins and outs, the good and bad. But you are giving guys like me an open view of the operation and know if it’s really worth starting. Thank you again and keep trucking

Yeah, I read a book about starting a business. The book suggested a mentor and to associate with someone who has already done what you are aiming to accomplish. So Brian is giving me tips with these videos, he is my mentor. I still have to do the work but at least I have guidance and a plan now.

"Is it worth it" has nothing to do with being a hard worker. I sit behind a desk everyday and want to buy a truck. I ask "Is it worth it" meaning will it sustain my cost of living. Can I give up this steady paycheck, buy a truck and not render my family homeless. Is it difficult to find work, will I find enough work to make at least what I am now...those are real life concerns.

great video!! Im thinking of getting a gravel truck, see I have a mini excavator and now Im thinking in future that a bigger machine is needed, I have a single tire 1 ton pick up now and for legal weights I need a dually, ford chev and dodge are asking huge prices for what I need, so ya Im in the dirt business as there is money to be made but I am not trying to become a millionaire, thank you for a real good video, there is one thing a cant bring myself to do, go on vacation..... the reason for this is the cost of the money spent on the vacation plus the money I didn't make with the equipment, so to anyone that is married with kids they too have to be on board with the ups and downs of being an owner/operator:)

Fuel, repairs, truck payment, per diem, (office rent) if you’re using a room in your house as your office, medical insurance (depending if it surpasses 7% of adj gross inc), extra business expenses such as tools, equipment, and everything work related. You can also write off charity if you pay church tithe, and if you have kids above 7 yrs old you can write them off 6k$ each child as child worker. Pretty much you don’t have to pay taxes if you can show receipts. Great Video Bro. I got a few questions for you as I’m transitioning from OTR to dump trucking. Can I email you?

Rainy winters can be brutal. 2 days a week from December through Febuary and sometimes into March sucks.
That's if your down south. Up north you haul salt and that is it in the winter.
You might sneak 1 full week in maybe 4 days but its rare in the winter.
Finding work is another issue, some folks will use you but they want 10% which I find to be a bit greedy.
That means in 2 weeks one entire day of your hard earned money goes to the boss.
I hauled 65 loads of dirt yesterday 3 or 4 hundred feet away for 9 hrs and I was one worn at dude when I got home.
I earned 720 bucks with the truck and 72 bucks will go to the guy that got me the job.
I didn't burn much fuel idling around all day onsite building up house pads. I burned 1/4 tank of fuel.
Driving a truck is harder on the body than anything I've ever done but try it if you must, I love it just not short dirt hauls with a fast loader and few trucks.

Yes repairs are expensive but that's the name of the game.
Many owner operators in Jersey who don't know anything about repairing their own truck but the money they make= small dent on their income when spending on repairs.
Owner operators don't have time to repair their own trucks. I think you are wrong about having to repair your own truck. Owner operators have their own families and shit to do on their free time.😤

@Gary Kunkle He said he works 7 days a week mostly. Did you read his comment and try to understand or just look for a way to attack? He has been doing it for 10 years i trust he knows what he is talking about. Trust me it is a lot different working this much in your fifties and sixties than as a younger man. I appreciate the advice especially the part about needing to fix the truck yourself. That rules me out. If you spend 5-10 hours per week on that and not get paid for that time that would get old for me fast.
