I'm pretty sure Duke wasnt intended to appear. He was put on the storyboards most likely as a reference. He was however considered later on to be an engine on the Earl's Estate, along with Smudger. It was never likely to happen. Collin could also just be a recerence but that one remains more of a mystery.
That would be a cool idea for the revival era when Duke does return, even though I don’t think Smudger really needs to return. Though it would be cool if he did.

Interestingly before ERTL Mike was revealed in November 2022, there were already some people who believed that he was planned. The earliest source that I know of is in Northwestern04’s fact video on Mike when he mentioned it. How did he know this or if he predicted this, I have no idea, though I find it very interesting. ERTL were also gonna make Agnes, Jemima and the mountain truck btw. And since Barry was the same class as Arthur all along, I think the Unlucky Tug’s model of Arthur has the perfect livery for Barry. Still weird that we didn’t get a BR Standard in the Railway Series though.

I'm thinking that the Red Wooden Railway Thomas was made as a factory error. Perhaps when Wooden Railway made this version of Thomas, they mistook him for James and painted the Thomas model up with James' livery, but still with Thomas' decals. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THE LITERAL HELL YOU MESS THIS UP THAT BAD.

Honestly, I feel like Disney should’ve bought this series. If they did that instead of Mattel, the series would’ve been somewhat the same but still different, but at the same time, I bet much better because Disney would understand what the fans want!
Disney is also very strict when it comes to copyright so it might be a pain in the ass for fan made content or uploading episodes. Disney would have most likely rebooted the show into a musical or a worse toddler show. So while it could be great for Disney to own the series, it wouldn't feel too right.

Why did Disney try to acquire Thomas back in 2002?
Not really sure. I think it was more of them being offered the licence. But I'm glad they passed on the offer.
