  • Our guest this month on the Metropolitan Culture Corner is singer, songwriter, guitarist Carlos Mendoza. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, he has been a Barcelona resident for several decades. He moved here with the other members of one of his bands, a rock group called Luz Verde.
Since then, he has been nominated for a Latin Grammy for his work with them; they have released 7 albums, and have legions of fans around the Spanish-speaking world, especially in Latin America. And for the past decade, Carlos has also been an integral part of rock and rumba band Alma de Boquerón, which started out as a fun bar band but has since grown to a six-piece powerhouse that regularly plays clubs and festivals. He’s equally at home on big stages as on small ones - or in an ER clinic, tending to a patient’s illness or injury. Yes, Grammy Nominee Carlos Mendoza is also a clinical immunologist, and is currently also getting a master’s degree in emergency medicine.

Carlos Mendoza's story of balancing two demanding careers is truly inspiring, demonstrating that with passion and perseverance, it is possible to pursue multiple dreams simultaneously. Whether he's performing to a crowd or tending to patients, Carlos brings the same level of dedication and enthusiasm.

Carlos Mendoza truly is inspiring. I particularly love the way in which he creates his songs through uniting melodies with particular lyrics.

Carlos Mendoza has such an incredible story. I commend Tori Sparks for asking the specific questions about his background because that can truly expose every detail that led them to be who they are. He seems so passionate and the 24-hour shifts on top of his shows that require so much energy is so inspirational. It's easy to tell when an artist does it for the love of music, rather than the opportunity for a Grammy or some award.

Carlos Mendoza’s journey from Venezuela to Barcelona, balancing his career as a musician and a doctor, is impressive. His passion for both music and medicine is clear.
Carlos, how do you manage to juggle being a musician, a doctor, and a dad? Any tips for staying motivated and handling such a busy life?
