This was my first new RC car, bought at Beatties in Bristol just before Christmas when I was around 14. I only went in to buy a Falcon (£69) with my Dad but left with the full THundershot kit with radio and batteries etc (£159). This was a lot of money back then!
Hi there Gavin. You’ve done a smashing job on yours I remember getting my first Tamiya Thunder Shot back in 1989 when i was 13 it took me about 4 hours to build it that wasn’t including paint and decals and i actually loved driving it more than the optima mid custom.✌🏻
Great video, really brought back some memories of the Thunderdragon I had as my first RC, including a little shudder seeing the A5 part again 😂. Love the new track layout too.
LOL!!! Was listening to TOOL last night, first thing on my YT Gavin goes Maynard Keenan. Then "Blow your own trumpet' out take.... Going to rewatch because I missed stuff giggling about that cover pic and trumpet definition. Excellent build.
I have a Fire Dragon which is almost identical to Thunder shot. I really like the RC car because it runs very well and fast much more than I expected. 👍Surprisingly, it runs very first, I guess, because it is very light weight and vey low friction in the drivetrain. Only one disadvantage of this car is especially the suspension parts including the suspension mounts on the gear box is very weak and they break so easily... I don't care so much if only the suspension arms break but it is really annoying when the suspension mounts break because it is a part of the gear boxes. So, we need to replace the gear boxes in such cases.🤯 I had a Terra Sorcher before and I reinforced the suspension mounts with FRP and it helped a lot to avoid such troubles around suspension monts though it was pretty troublesome to do it. Anyway, I still like the car because they are very fun to drive and very controlable despite of 4WD!😄
I noticed you used an Hitec HS-311 servo. Hitec servo's have 24 teeth. The included basesplates for the servo saver are 23T (Sanwa) en 25T (Futaba/Tamiya). The Futaba/Tamiya one gives the impression it fits just fine on the Hitec. But as soon as it gets some force to endure it skips over the teeth. Multiplex/Hitec have a baseplate for the Tamiya servo saver that fits Hitec servo's.
@@RCKickschannel I found out the hard way. 😅 Built an Neo Fighter with an HS-311, on the first test drive it hit a loose stick in the field and the steering angle was all wrong after that. I didn't understand at first why it happend and thought the servo broke. Then found out about the different amount of teeth.
I remember leaving it til Christmas Eve night, drunk, to build my sons Aqroshot I got him for Christmas. For some reason I had in my mind it was a 45min or hourish job. Luckily I’d already painted the Shell. Don’t remember exactly how much sleep I had that night but I did somehow manage to produce a useable car.
What a pain to see him on the wet track! I don't use mine, I put them together and they go straight to the cabinet. Does this ThunderShot come complete with ball bearings?
Great video! Thanks. It’s helping with my build Did you use the Carson esc? The Carson esc with mine I cant find a way to mount the on / off switch in the switch slot. Did you have the same issue?
Ooff clipped the side of the house there at a really acute angle. A head of would have done less damage! Maybe need an upgrade of a crash barrier on the side of the house :D
I get you now Peter. The outtro I used in this video was filmed and used in the Thunder Shot unboxing video from four days ago. I used it again in this video. If you squint, you can see whatever you like LOL.

Well done that Dad :)! Cool story James and a lucky boy.
New Track looks great 😊
Awesome build and running video Gavin, Loved the Comical Trumpet part to :-))
Really like the new track. looking forward to the new timings come in. Tempting me to create my own track.
A very nice build. You did an excellent job! Thanks for sharing. I wish they were all that simple.
There really isn't anything like the feeling of building a Tamiya kit. It's something that should be compulsory. Nice job. 😎👍🏻
Nice new track it makes it easier to follow the car. Blowing your own horn.... steve just learned a new saying haha. Good job!
For what I'd consider entry level. That thing seems to handle impressively. Great vid Gav!

Ooopsie. Have just got one. Now need to find a time to build it

Glad you enjoyed it Neil.
Love the backyard track. I wish you had a baseline motor for all cars.
LOL!!!

👍🏻👍🏻 We don’t take ourselves too seriously on RCKicks 😜

Awesome, fab video! I guessed 3hrs 40mins lol

I didn't know that, Thanks for the info.

LOL great story Ben 👍🏻

Always wanted one of these but never could afford it ...nothing's changed lol nice build 👌
What no genuine Tamiay plastic bushings? SACRELEDGE!
Cracking video Gav, i remember leaving the film on back in the day, all part of the fun 😂 but it was my 1st build, so im allowed 😎
Glad you enjoyed it

Hello from southeast alaska 6 hours and 24 mins
Great video! Thanks. It’s helping with my build
Did you use the Carson esc? The Carson esc with mine I cant find a way to mount the on / off switch in the switch slot. Did you have the same issue?
Yep you have to stick it to the side of the chassis inside.
@@RCKickschannel ah. Ok thanks! 👍🏻
Hi Gav. Another difference in the dampers. The re re uses the newer CVA 2's
Yep. Same colour, different end caps from what I can see.
Dude, how many cars did that corner of the house kill already? :)
Time for some edge protection or something!
LOL So true
Ooff clipped the side of the house there at a really acute angle. A head of would have done less damage! Maybe need an upgrade of a crash barrier on the side of the house :D
Ok i say 45 minutes... now to watch....
I like the track, but don't like music played over the running footage.
We want to hear those Tamiya gears 😁
I wonder how the auction would have gone, if it was after this video was posted? 😁
Good question? It sold fast enough and the winning offer helped me purchase another kit for content on the show.
It took me 4 hours to build
All driving skills tend to vanish when the camera is on 😂
Skills? Unfortunately the camera changes nothing lol
@@RCKickschannel 🤓😂
Hmmm must be Egress day, coincidence ? If you know you know 😆

Was that running on a silver can? Have to say it looked like it handled really well 👌
Yep kit silver 540
1 hour 52 minutes and 28 seconds =)
No chance
Prefer it without the spoiler.
It took me 4 hours to build mine so ima say 3 hours. Edited: wow I got really close

Geez… it took me a week to build mine! 🤣🤣🤣
Surprised the A5 didn't crack
I know right. It was the first thing I checked when I put it on the bench as I expected that to go before the arm.
Mercedes Benz Cap 🤔🤔🤔
Two men enter, One man leaves…..
Two cars entered and I broke er, two of them. I just snapped a rear upright on my TF Evo.
£200 pound car. £2 pound umbrella 🌂

I think the unbrella was free lol
I think the terra scorcher looks better. Then the thundershot.
2 hours and 34 minute my guess no real clue only have one tamiya built
wow i was way off my bad
The shocks are absolutely not the sames. The new ones are ugly and less accurate.
Too fast ...A-5 broken now.
Nope, just the arm this time.
Sorry, I meant the build was too fast, not the crash. (LOL, that's how fragile 🤣)
