Landlords have to resort to self help PD just give lip service in Washington even if you have a stack of legal documents from court to evict tenant. They're useless papers that cost about $1000 in court fees/filings. Washington state is all about the tenant. It encourages deadbeat tenants to squat on property that someone else is paying for. However if one of those lawmakers were in a landlord situation of not being able to get anywhere removing a tenant you bet your sweet a-- they'd call in favors & the tenant would be removed immediatey. Need to go back to the days when you call PD inform them tenants are behind on rent get rid of them & that's what they did. But now it's a joke!

Yet if the UTILITY COMPANY turns off gas and electric for non-payment, that's OK. Go figure.

Disregarding the law let's petty landlords take your money, refuse repairs to the building and then shut your utilities off that you already paid for. Eviction is their protection not having my utilities turned off that I paid for is mine.

This was just done to me. My rent has NEVER been late and I live with 3 children. I refused to pay my rent until the roach problem is fixed and so she went and turned my heart off. We have law to keep us safe. This has to be argued in court.

Funny I have tenants giving this exact excuse for not paying rent. First its an infestation. Next, the hot water is not working properly. Then it's a window issue. The list never ends. Filing an eviction as we speak. No more excuses for squatters.

I lived here for 5 years 4 years were fine but then I started having problems with the business below me they control both the upstairs Apartments Heat the problem I'm having is is it supposed to be set at 68°, which is 72 upstairs the other night I woke up and it was 91 in here and I had a seizure and had to go to the emergency room the landlord told me I always have the option to move that the heat can't be messed with it was all in my head. I suffer from epilepsy and mental disabilities. The downstairs business will turn the heat off entirely when they open up their business and then when they leave they turn it up or off you never know which they're going to do and this last time they turned it up because we had the big holiday that way I would roast for 3 days and that's when I had my seizure. My landlord makes it sound like I'm trying to start a problem our heat is included in the rent what can I do besides move and don't forget I didn't have this problem for 4 years which the landlord will tell you something to do with how the heater set up and also I have all my heater vents blocked because of when he turns it up it would even be warmer than 91° if I hadn't.

ok so if you rent to someone it makes you there "parent" where you HAVE to support them even as you go broke and eventually end up homeless yourself? if tenants don't have to pay why the hell should landlords have to support them and go broke doing so ??????????????

If they don’t pay evict them no need to turn off utilities. You as a landlord should be finding someone else to move in if a tenet is not paying

If you can't afford to be a good lawful landlord don't be one. If roaches are crawling over my kids because you failed to disclose that then that's an argument for court in front of a judge. A landlord is not a judge often times they are corrupt and money hungry. My deposit wld paid my rent this month since mine failed to treat for pests and I was forced to pay for a motel to keep my children safe.

Buy buy spray stupid, having roaches isn't an excuse not to pay rent. If you can't be a lawful tenant, don't rent!

I agree that landlords are being treated unfairly. If they do not have the rent, they can't pay the bills...including heating bills.

So a tenet should freeze so a landlord can stay warm just evict your tenet if they don’t pay you can’t bully them by turning off utilities

@@ryans413 if they can’t pay the rent, they should move out and live with a family member or friend. I should not be forced to house someone.

@@avi3062 yes I get it but you still can’t just decide to turn off the utilities you can be fined in court for that it sucks but you gotta follow the steps in an eviction you can be held liable for cutting utilities off

@@ryans413 - yes, I agree. I never turned off utilities. The courts however should make it easier to evict none paying tenants. A tenant can tie up the case in court for 6 months….and that’s before the rent moratorium. Small building owners depend on the rent to support their families
