I had an entrance set up just like that in my split. Straight up and down to the left. When I lost 2 people down the stairs as they came in the door, it was time to extend the platform and move the stairs to a different angle. It's wonderful now. Plenty of room for a large antique hall tree. ☺️

I think the sloping floors in the house with the wonky pocket door might have been built over an old porch. So the floor was meant to slope.
