🌷Albano Waite Tarot (Tarot Productions Inc., 1968) || COMPARISON! TIP! How To Tell If Original

- A little tip on how you can tell if you are getting an actual 1968 edition by Tarot Productions. Plus: Comparing Frankie Albano's colouring (Golden Dawn colours...?) of the Rider Waite Smith, by Tarot Productions Inc. (California, USA: 1968): "New Colour Edition with Instruction Booklet" (used condition here), and the one published without (unused). Plus comparing these two with US Games' pre-copyright Albano-Waite from the late 1980s to early 1990s (we established this by process of elimination). This is the yellow box and booklet format that has been copied by US Games for their standard (garish version) Rider Waite Smith cards packaging. The original Albano Waite (and the actual Rider Waite Smith for that matter) aren’t at all as garish as their new printing might suggest. With the Albano Waite especially using strong bright colours with high saturation but enough shades of colours beyond primary colours to make them tasteful and delightful to the eyes.
CAVEAT: There is no way of telling if decks are original to their boxes, or boxes original to the decks. There is also no way of telling for sure, whether any of the cards are original to the deck, although such cases are often relatively easier to spot.
NOTE: The cardstock of the 1968 edition feels more like cardboard pieces with no core and might not be made for riffle shuffling casino style (you need modern casino grade cardstock for that)
QUESTION: Does anybody know who US Games bought the copyright of the Albano Waite from? If so, do you think Stuart Kaplan of US Games was the last person to have seen Franky Albano....?
Thank you to a viewer who shared this post on Reddit about the brief musical life of the man that was (is?) Frankie Albano (I have never seen his face before this, and judging from the reddit replies, a few others have not either)

Probably topped him off, for all we know, given USG's consistently shameless behavior around tarot works. 😂
Zos Aos Be careful 😅 they will sue you for defamation their pocket is DEEP!
Speaking of which: Check out a movie called “Burnt Orange Heresy”
@@NobodyHere Oooh thanks, will do, sounds interesting.
I have a theory. I own a miniature Albano Waite printed by US Games in 1987. The copyright on the box is for Tarot Productions AND US Games. The colours of the cards are the same as my vintage 1968 Albano Waite.
My theory is that, unable to contact Frankie Albano, US Games changed the colours of the modern deck - about 10% of the deck has different colours from the vintage deck. This allows US Games to print the Albano Waite without needing any permission from Frankie since it is a different deck. The modern deck does not attribute copyright to Tarot Productions.
The vintage deck was published into at least the mid 1970s so there are probably different print runs. The copyright may be 1968 but it doesn't mean all the decks were printed that year. Bear in mind, the RWS has a copyright of 1971 to this day.
Simon Fernandes Thank you! Yes I did wonder about print run because 1968 is copyright and not year of print. So the joint copyright in 1987 indicated that as far as 1987 Tarot Productions is still attributed? The no copy right marker on the grey instead of lilac deck on the left there has been theorised to be from the late 1980s early 1990s so your 1987 printed USG is an interesting piece of the puzzle! Thank you!
Any of you have the “Deluxe Colour” you are willing to trade with one of my tarot collectibles on my Instagram @MyCollectionForSale please give me a shout! If you do not see anything there now, I am constantly adding to my liquidation list of tarot collection for sale!
I found an old article on Frankie in a vintage Music Magazine of all places. ( he recorded a couple records before making his tarot wheel) I posted my Albano Waite collection of decks, tarot wheel ((in mint condition)) and records along with the original magazine and article along with a PICTURE OF FRANKIE. You can find it on pintres if you do a search for Albano Waite Frankie Albano.
Yes, a viewer who posted a comment here have kindly linked us to that magazine article on reddit with further link to the archive of the whole music magazine! I have copied and pasted that reddit link on the description section above :)
Frankie recorded a song called Annie had a baby and another called dance with me henry. He was a gentle soul and had a monkey - jimmy grumps- at his home on wonderland ave.
