  • In this video, we are finally going to show everyone the interior of our 25 foot 1973 Avion LaGrande travel trailer. We were lucky to find a trailer in REALLY good condition. However, we are eventually going to make some changes to our beautiful trailer.
    This is a peek into our time-warp trailer before any changes are made. We would love any input you might have as to changes we should or shouldn't make to our vintage trailer. Hope you enjoy the video!
    P.S. Can you tell me what TV show inspired my video style?

    Beautiful condition congratulations. We had a 25’ Airstream Land Yacht 1972 I believe. It was almost identical floor place, except your unit has gorgeous cabinets and bath our tub was on the opposite side and a pocket door. They dont make them like this anymore😊

    Greetings
    The adventure of camping sure beats sitting home waiting for tomorrow. I'm in the process of renovating a 1972 Avion Voyageur-25 myself. Hopefully it will be read to hit the road this autumn, assuming all goes as planned. New wheeles, tires, brakes, lights, converter/charger and batteries. I've sanded, stained and re-varnished the cabinets ( Moroccan Red ). New solid surface counter tops, stainless sink, cook top, microwave and fridge. Gutted the bath, which will get new potty, solid surface counter tip and a vessel sink.
    Best of luck with your remodel, I'm super excited about mine.
    Regards
    Sonny

    Incredible condition, enjoy it just as-is or with painted walls! I'd recommend drop-kicking the microwave off the front porch and never use a microwave again (horribly unhealthy to eat or drink things heated in a microwave - ditched ours over a decade ago, use a toaster or stove since, and don't miss it one bit. researched microwave tech for years and no way I'd ever use one again, it's that bad for you!). After looking online for over two years I found a 1978 Avion 26' and snatched it up the second it showed up on Craigslist. You seem to have the same length trailer, best for towing due to its compact size, but bigger than an Airstream Bambi baby-trailer. The Avion trailers are better made than Airstream and will last a century if taken care of. Happy and safe travels to you guys!

      That is why we bought the Avion over the Airstream. My wife did the research, and the Avion is much better built. It's funny watching brand new trailers fall apart within a year.

    We just brought home a 1985 25H, rear bedroom, double bed. We just love the thing. Like yours, I think we lucked out, and got a good one. As for changes, we are opting for modernization...... keep some of the old, and bring in some of the new. Adding more modern electronics, solar, update our stove because it's not in as good a condition as yours! New counter tops, ours are not very nice. Flooring, and we may go for in floor hydronic heating.....why not, the thing comes with a gas water heater right?! The list does go on, like new roof fans, seal the thing on the outside, all new rubber bumpers and trim...... already fixed one window opener. Ours needs a rock guard, so making one out of Lexan...... It's not a project for one day, rather many days, and many years..... improve it, camp in it a little, improve a bit more, and the cycle continues. Enjoy your really great looking trailer....and please do post when you make improvements! Cheers, Scott

      Thanks for watching Scott! Our list of changes are somewhat similar. My wife wants to keep as much of the vintage feel as she can, but like you said, bring in some modern touches. We need to fix almost all of our window openers, but it will not be easy to do without removing the window completely in our trailer. How did you fix yours? did you have to take out the window or were you able to just drill out the rivets?

    • @scottedwards9994
      @scottedwards9994 3 роки тому

      @@OurGoldRoad It's not easy to do..... and ours are a little different compared to yours, but they are all similar. Yes, you drill out the rivets, and that can sometimes be difficult, especially some of the ones jammed in corners. So first thing you need to do is pick a day that you have lots of patience. Mine had already been drilled out, but the PO installed screws that were not appropriate. They were all loose, some bent..... so I learned a lot about what I did now want to do. If you want to fix it right, and make it so you can repair again, (which you will have to do as these operators, as they are called, are just plain junk) I would recommend drilling and tapping the rivet holes for 8-32 machine screws, and use a dab of blue loctite thread locker to keep them in place. I only did one so far, and reused the crappy screws to just hold it all in place, but today I brought home my tap set so I can tap all the holes and fix this right. Then I'll do them all this way as I replace them. I'm lucky, so far only 2 are bad. The plastic handles are all cracking up, so I bought replacements for them..... in Black.....thought it would look nicer. Do yourself a massive favour, but a #2 robertson and #2 phillips LOOOOOnk screw driver bit....I mean like 12" if you can find them. This will help with the screws that are deep in the corners......if you have that issue. While apart, you will probably find that the furry inserts that seal the window are not very furry any more. Buy some more of this weather striping and install into the opening window...... if that is how yours works. The rest is normal maintenance, clean out the dirt in the tracks, mane sure the lower water vents are clear, check stuff for bends and correct......replace seals that look bad. My windows are the Hehr 5900 and 7900 series windows, yours may be the same. The 5900 is in the kitchen, the rest are 7900 series. Have fun, and thanks for sharing the video. Cheers, Scott

      @@scottedwards9994 I wish our windows had screws in the corners. I can’t get a drill bit in that tight space to drill out the rivet. 👎 We are trying to think outside the box to get it fixed without having to remove windows.

      @@OurGoldRoad A center punch, and a drill bit on a long extension. The center punch location should be lower and to the inside slightly, you will be drilling at an angle.

    We just were gifted a 1973 Avion LaGrande - exactly like yours except- it was mice infested!! We brought it home last weekend - got it sight in seen ! I knew it had mice but didn’t know how bad! I spent 3 days just cleaning out the nests! Keep asking myself if it was worth it even for free! I was going to paint the cabinets and make some changes, but the more I learn about them the more I might keep a lot of it original!

    • @OurGoldRoad
      @OurGoldRoad  3 роки тому

      That is an AWESOME free gift! It will be a labor of love but these trailer are better built than most; especially the newer ones. Also, original is good but you should make it your own, even if that means painting the cabinets. 😀
