Thank you for a great bit of history. That puts a perspective on the trailer's value to new car owners... $100 when a Hudson cost $900 including the Bendix stabilizer. This was a deluxe model from a well to do family. Granddad told stories of traveling in the 30's when a family had to carry most of what they needed, including most of their clothes and bedding. For those who don't know, tires exploding (and quickly going flat) were somewhat common. The Bendix stabilizer helped keep the car in a straight line until you could get your car stopped. It was one of many products on Hudsons of the era, including the electric starter and the "Electric Hand", a way to shift w/o a clutch or shift lever.

This is very interesting. I've only known of Bendix through vacuum tubes and electronics. They made amazing high quality and heavy-duty tubes for aviation, military, and the space industry. If you find Bendix vacuum tubes buy them, but they're expensive. They will probably out live you, your children, grandchildren...

Most of their tubes were specialized versions of commonly available tube types but heavily modified for long life and high performance. Come to think of it they did supply the auto industry with OEM parts, I don't know how that slipped my mind, chalk it up to old age. I just can't overstate how amazing their "Red Bank" tubes are. You can make a light bulb that lasts for 100 years but nobody's trying anymore.

@@tiki_trash Bendix has has probably produced 100's of automotive products. Their best known product in the auto industry is probably the Bendix drive which should be close to 100 years old. I'm sure you recognize it; it's a solenoid atop the starter motor. When activated it shoves the starter's gear into gears on your car's flywheel, then activates the starter motor. Once at speed, the starter gear is tossed back. It was pretty much the standard but could be replaced these days by the starter-generator system in hybrids and mini-hybrids.

@@mikep490 I feel dumb now. I know this. That was a long time ago. Every starter ever.

Thank you for sharing what, to me, is a rarity. Youngstown cabinets were used in my grandparent's home.

Great video. Always curious about these Mullins trailers. I believe Mullins also made body parts for the Cord automobile in the mid thirties. Would like to find a 1/25 scale model of one of these trailers.
