"what's a carpet sweeper?" 🤣🤣 amazing that common things disappear from wider knowledge. It's like a broom, but on the end of the stick is a box with wheels on the bottom that have bristles on them that pick up dust into the box.
The Fix Up was the first episode I ever watched. Watched it on NBC in its original run. After, I thought, "Wow, that kind of blew me away. This is a show where I'll have to check out more episodes."
Kreskin found his paycheck in my empty cup under my seat. That was his thing, at the end of the show he had to find his 'paycheck' to get paid for the night, which was hidden in the audience. When I was about 10 my grandparents took me to see him. At the end of the show his check was magically in my cup. Talk about amazed! :) He autograph the cup for me too.
As a museum director, I kept staring at it too. I'm doing a '50s exhibit in a month, but the Hotpoint stove we have isn't the right time period. At least we have a '50s Hamilton electric clothes dryer. :)
Also the part where he mentions that his father is bald. Frank Costanza wasn't seen yet but the first actor before Jerry Stiller came along was actually bald... The episode was reshot with Stiller for reruns and syndication so it's rare to even see that original take.
Kreskin was a mentalist popular in the 70s/80s. One trick he'd do in big shows is have someone in the audience hide his performance check, and use his metal abilities to find it. If he couldn't find it, he agreed to do the show for free. (I believe that happened only 3 or 4 times in his entire career.)
Kreskin or The Amazing Kreskin was a mentalist who would preform tricks on late night talk shows and he had his own tv show for a little bit. He actually passed away somewhat recently.
Should get chips to hide them behind. Give a sly wink when handing them over. It's 100% not necessary if you're ordering condoms. But just for the fun of hiding something.
I just realized the woman in S3 E15 played the maid around the end of Mr deeds a great movie. In the second one when George is running out of Jerry's apartment he goes left but when they show the apartment from the hall it's from the right side and left hits a wall no hallway lol
Newman started out off screen as a neighbor who kept threatening to jump off the roof. I can't remember which episode that was. My favorite scene of all time was the twist off scene and the look on Elaine's face as she comes in.
Yes, in the original airing of that offscreen Newman episode, the voice was provided by Larry David. However, after Wayne Knight became the actual face of Newman, that voiced was redubbed by Knight for the reuns.
The outtake of Jerry, Elaine, Kramer fighting is hilarious. Hope that after you finish the series, you will watch some outtakes from the show, at least on your own time.
Carpet sweepers are the things that public school classrooms have for picking up little bits of paper and stuff off that hard industrial carpet they put in classrooms. It's like a dustpan on a hinge but like a box that has a roller to pickup and shove the stuff into itself. Then you open it up and dump it in the trash can. I haven't seen one for 20+ years.
Really fun re-watch. Warning: Season 4 of Seinfeld is the greatest season of television in the history of the medium. Every episode is an absolute banger.
YES! The WHOLE META -Thing with "Salsa - Seltzer" - The Pilot etc - IS UNPRECEDENTED - No President! (The first 2 Eps I watch as "Season 3 1/2" (The Trip) set in LA - they are fun - but they have NO ELAINE! (I Know JLD was having a child - you can begin to tell in "The Fix-Up"...) It will be fun to re-watch will all other Seinfeld Aficionados here!
For the whole story on Sonny Von Bulow and her coma, see the excellent 1990 film REVERSAL OF FORTUNE. It's fascinating. Jeremy Irons won an Academy Ward for Best Actor as Klaus Von Bulow, Sonny's husband who may or may not have put her in that coma.
I came here to make sure someone mentioned Reversal of Fortune🙂 :) . Watch Irons' Oscar acceptance speech. He thanks David Cronenberg who wasn't involved in Reversal of Fortune, but because many believed Irons should have been nominated & won the Oscar 3 years earlier for Cronenberg's film Dead Ringers. Dead Ringers was the film that catapulted Irons to the top of the casting lists.
Reversal of Fortune was the blockbuster hit that got Irons the Oscar. Dead Ringers was the lesser-known Canadian movie that preceded it and that is the real tour de force of Irons’ career. If you’re not aware, in Dead Ringers Irons plays twin brothers who pretend to be each other. Even though they look identical and mimic each other’s mannerisms and personality, you can still tell when he’s Eli and when he’s Bev, and you can tell when he’s Eli pretending to be Bev and when he’s Bev pretending to be Eli. 🤯
It used to be believed that male-pattern baldness was inherited from the mother. But later research found that the genes that cause it are almost all on the Y-chromosome, so it mostly comes from one's father.
A carpet sweeper is a simple mechanical device people used to vacuum before vacuums. And without a very specific thickness of shag, it's a useless piece of junk. I'm actually shocked it ever got off the ground. Not an acceptable vacuum substitute. I've broken two on purpose.
"A carpet sweeper is a simple mechanical device people used to vacuum BEFORE vacuums." Not nearly as good as a vacuum, but obviously better than no vacuum.
That's a bit of an oversimplification. They work fine to do a "touch-up" between regular vacuuming without having to drag out a whole-ass vacuum and plug it in. Maybe a tad redundant now that you can get good, lightweight cordless uprights and handhelds but they were pretty handy when all vacuums were bulky drag behinds.
Years ago my mom went to a psychic. The one really odd thing was her knowing we were about to take a trip. My mom never told her but the psychic was like: you're taking a trip on the 17th. I wouldn't go that day, even the next day is better. My mom had no option but to leave that day and our car broke down in the middle of nowhere.
If I had a kid with dark hair, I would name him Rasputin. If nothing else it might make him almost impossible to kill, like his namesake. lol I too was distracted the entire episode thinking about Rasputin and the Romanovs. I even went to Wikipedia and looked it up. I did have to restart the episode even.
We said this way too much in high school. Only a couple in the class above us had a child before their senior year. 30 years later and I think they are still together.
In 1979, Sunny von Bülow went into a coma that was originally diagnosed as being caused by going too long without eating. I always thought that was an incredibly oblique reference to Elaine's fasting storyline. 😄
Wow, congrats on a successful matchmaking! That's awesome. I never went out of my way to hook a pair up but maybe just by existing there were two people that met through me and hooked up and I just didn't pay attention because I've always been really busy in my head.
I fixed up a female friend in college with a guy who wouldn't stop bugging me about it. 3 years later they were married. 2 years later I was married. 5 years later she was divorced then I got divorced. We've been dating each other for almost 2 years
It's edited out of the reaction but I use Kramer's line "The carpet sweeper is the biggest scam perpetrated on the American public since one hour martinizing" all the time just replacing "the carpet sweeper" with whatever I'm criticizing.
Regarding Jerry’s standup about the conductor at the beginning of 3-16, as an orchestral musician I’ll just say that the conductor does a heck of a lot more than just wave a stick.
Watch Reversal of Fortune. It’s brilliant. We’ll all watch it with you! (Then watch Dead Ringers - according to Jeremy Irons, the reason he won the Oscar for Reversal of Fortune was as a sort of apology for not giving him an Oscar for Dead Ringers, where he undoubtedly deserved one.)
Literally was just telling my friend how my doctor wants me to come in and give a UA the day after my daughter's birthday next week, and I have to drive 40 miles to pee in a cup. Then I clicked on here and Jerry is talking about giving a urine sample XD

My mom smoked cigarettes and weed when pregnant with me. Though that was the early 70s. People didn't know as much back then. I turned out fine though, I think. I do smoke cigarettes and weed though. 😂😂 Then again, I also do other things that she never did.
For more Newman - gotta react to the movie JFK, “Newman” has a (serious) supporting role in that movie. (John Candy also has a small bit role!). Stars Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Oldman. Gotta see it before the Seinfeld episode “The Boyfriend” - since there’s a scene in that episode that parodies a scene in JFK.
I watched this episode many times but just realized the refrigerator goes from the left to he right when George enters Jerry's house when Elaine is saying her friend missed her period😂 What was going on there?
I fixed up my sister with a friend of mine and she and him got married. Also I did it again with another two friends. Wow. Hello from PA USA. Ps now the condoms are over the counter. We also don't have to ask the pharmacy for them. Love Seinfeld. Thanks. ❤❤❤❤

When Elaine is talking to Cynthia in the kitchen, that's a vintage 1950's Hotpoint refrigerator behind her.
As a museum director, I kept staring at it too. I'm doing a '50s exhibit in a month, but the Hotpoint stove we have isn't the right time period. At least we have a '50s Hamilton electric clothes dryer. :)
The part you missed, was George mentioning his brother, which was never brought up again for the rest of the series.
Also the part where he mentions that his father is bald. Frank Costanza wasn't seen yet but the first actor before Jerry Stiller came along was actually bald... The episode was reshot with Stiller for reruns and syndication so it's rare to even see that original take.

I can’t believe Seinfeld took that long to introduce Newman as a character. He is one of my favorites.😂

Carpet sweeper is like a non-electric vacuum. It just rolls brushes as you push it.
Or you know, if you really want to learn something do what everyone else does and Google it.
I fixed up 2 couples, both had a child. 1 pair separated and 1 is still together.
