  • This was the last hike that I did in South Korea before moving away and I lucked out! It was a picture perfect day full of blue skies and nice dry trails full of friendly hikers. I started at 2 p.m. at the Jungsalli (Kalbawi) course trailhead in Jungsan-ri. Jungsan-ri of Sicheon-myeon in Sancheong is close to the highest summit of Jirisan Mountain and so you can climb to Cheonwangbong Peak from here in the shortest time.
    A little information about Jirisan mountain is that it is the second largest mountain in South Korea and considered one of the holiest of two others, Hallasan mountain on Jeju island and Seoraksan in Sokcho. The hike can be done from various locations and needs a good amount of physical strength to traverse it. It is approximately 1,915m to the top of Cheonwangbong peak with an endless trail system continuing throughout the Jirisan National Park. Really can't stress how perfect the conditions were for this day hike.
    Entering the park is pretty simple and straight forward and you can look forward to a good 3-4 hours of hiking in total with hard conditions, basically a lot of stairs with a vertical hike to the top. Of course with a camera its twice that, got to backtrack always! Come along a very peaceful hike and make sure to visit the Beopgyesa Temple on your way, beautiful endless views can be seen next to a statue that honors a female forest spirit. If you ever get a chance to do this hike, it is highly recommended. Its of the most hiked mountains in Korea and it speaks for itself.

    I subscribed, I wonder why you don't have many followers, this video was so zen and makes me wanna go there tomorrow! Nice drone shots too, i also loved the framing when you reached the peak! 👏👏

      Thanks Raed! I think its because I don't post as much and this was the one video I have made where I slowed it down and focused on the hike rather than sequencing it with music. I guess you always have to stay true to what you are trying to show in videos, that's my tidbit of advice. But am glad you enjoyed it and thanks for subscribing. I have many videos in my back pocket that I look forward to unloading on here so stay tuned. If you ever get the chance try to go later on in the day that way you can avoid the crowds. That last shot gets me every time, its almost as if its superimposed! It was a great day for a hike. Have a good one!!

    Cool footage! I was hearing it could take a few days to really hike to the peak, like staying over night at a temple there…! I’ve hiked seoraksan and a few other Korean national parks but need to check Jirisan off my list

    • @thelastofthegeojites
      @thelastofthegeojites  9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! Yes, hiking to the peak of Jirisan can indeed be an amazing multi-day adventure, and staying overnight at one of the temples adds a unique experience to the journey and of course it does depend on where you start. It sounds like you've explored some beautiful spots in Korean national parks; Jirisan will surely be a fantastic addition to your list of hiking adventures. If you haven't already, I hope you enjoy it!

      Thanks so much for the comment, very kind of you to say. All videos are different but one thing I learned is to slow it down and focus on the overall feeling you want to portray for your audience. Good luck in future postings!

    Love the video. Gave me a good idea of the terrain. I plan to do Jirisan in the fall but a longer hike ie from Jungsanri to Gurye. Would you recommend that? I'll probably do it in 2 nights 3 days as it feels like a long hike and we need to carry stuff for overnight

    • @thelastofthegeojites
      @thelastofthegeojites  2 роки тому

      Hi! Glad you enjoyed watching it! It is not for the faint of heart, though very doable if you pace yourself especially with alot of gear. I would definitely recommend a longer hike to take in all the beauty it has to provide. I also think you might have to book the overnight cabins in advance to save a spot as camping around Jirisan isn't really allowed. But yeah let me know how it goes! Seems like a fantastic hike!

    There's an old saying in Korea;
    Jirisan is magnificent mountain without beauty, Geumgangsan is beautiful but not magnificent. Guwolsan is mountain lack of both magnificence and beauty and finally, Myohyangsan is the mountain with both beauty and grandeur.
    It's so sad that 50 millions of Korean can't go Geumgang and Myohyang because both mountains are in North Korea. The division of Korean peninsula limits its people to visit spots considered to be sacred to Koreans.

    • @thelastofthegeojites
      @thelastofthegeojites  Рік тому

      Yes, its definitely unfortunate that the divide causes such places to be unaccessible especially places of such beauty. Hopefully someday we can enjoy those places without having ties to political agendas as nature intended.🙏

    Hello sir, is it permitted to fly a drone in Jirisan or did you secure a permit? Thanks.

    • @thelastofthegeojites
      @thelastofthegeojites  21 день тому

      Hi! This was filmed several years ago and at that moment drones were a new thing and the regulations for it were quite relaxed. I would make sure to check any government website on the legality of flying a drone. Here is a website that I found updated this January 2024: drone-laws.com/drone-laws-in-south-korea/. I'm not sure about national parks though. Good luck with finding out!
