I am amazed that the rails have stayed in gauge for 67 years having the ties rotted away years ago. I will 2nd dkneuer's request for track restoration updates. I know that the line south of Robertsdale is in speeder shape all the way to just outside of Woodvale.
People forget how powerful dirt and idleness is. Some sections are more distorted than others. The section though threesprings was slowly buried by lack of maintenance over the last years of the RR and no trees grew within the rails as the city’s park was there. It had been mowed often and kept solid by the gentle pounding of those walking the right of way. Thus the rails had no way to shift to ether side. Tho not perfectly within gauge as winter and summer weather has expanded and contracted around it, they remain
It definitely needs to be restored. I would love to see the East Broad Top restore all their steam locos and get a few ex White Pass And Yukon Alco DL535Es.
It is getting restored. Go on facebook they show the progress. Since i filmed over 2000 feet of track towards this location has been made to full mainline standard and more on the way

They also own the cole’s valley branch which despite lacking rail is legally active
It is technically active. They are currently repairing track further north to Pogue. This is future trackwork as there is still 3 or so miles between pogue station and here. As for the paved over crossing penndot will repair that as it was done when the RR was closed from 2011 to 2019
Yes it is all intact from one end to the other of the 33 mile railroad. But this is years if non maintenance and penndot paving over rather than repairing that left it as is. This will be fixed in future as restoration of OOS track is done. It is not abandoned
What was the line used for? Was it some kind of industrial tramway for an old mine or quarry etc.? We used to have lots of old lines like that here in the UK but most of them are long gone now.@@mattsmocs3281
The rails north of the crossing are OOS till a thousand some feet south the cemetery crossing in rockhill. This is roughly a 3 mile gap of track which is currently being rebuilt at good pace.
Almost expected you to drive over the asphalt, like the Indonesian sugar cane railways, they pave the rails every year over and the locomotives rip them open because of planning chaos and/or legal lassez-faire.
Abandoned rail , Three Springs hasn't seen train traffic since 1956 and the railroad has left that area abandoned since then a nonprofit organization bought part of the line to hold rail enthusiast rides.
@@josephbennett3482 not abandoned mate. It was not filed for abandonment with the FRA or ICC as the filing was haulted by the kolshavic family, it is classed as "out of service" which means they do not need to maintain it but it is ready for reactivation when needed. Second in the 1970s the M1 ran a trip down to robertsdale and back a few times which solidified it as in service. Just because it is currently not passable doesn't mean it's abandoned.
It is , the railroad decommissioned that line in 1956 and most of the rail to that area is gone , Norfolk and CSX built new lines somewhere else and Three Springs hasn't seen train traffic since 1956.
That line needs to be restored too.
Eventually
@@mattsmocs3281 Love the videos. Do you have any videos of work being done on repairs/replacement track more current.
@@dkneuer they don’t work on it often enough
There's alot of rail systems that sadly got torn down the really old ones I would have loved to see them still alive

Love these videos of the EBT ! I first rode on the EBT when in grade school in 1966 - amazing that much of the original track still exists!

Would be cool to live in that house with the rr track going through the backyard
we parked there for the 3 Springs Enduro!
At 1:20, the paved over crossing do the tracks continue on the other side?
Yes they do. The rail is in place the entire way from Mt Union to Woodvale past Robertsdale

Does the RR still own all of the ROW?

Neat vid! I'd love to have a rail speeder for the Narcoa runs. I'm curious, can you get permission to run on the rails on the other side of the road?

"Permission"? That ground & track are part of the EBT's legal Right of Way. No permission needed. 😁

Too bad the tracks were covered up by road paving.
Its not a issue. When they get to this section penndot legally has to rip up the road and rebuild the crossing
You have more luck than sense.
