It seems my proposed commitment to Vcarve Desktop was premature. I started a project late last night only to discover almost immediately that the spiral I needed to create is not included in Vcarve shapes and only Vcarve Pro will allow me to load something called a "Gadget" necessary to create a spiral on a flat board using a simple vbit. So I must wait to design my rotating spiral quasar for my box top project till I have the bucks for the Pro version or try and do it using some weird combo method of design software. While I could do it in a few minutes manually with a router and string the point was to design the whole box top and cut it out of walnut after I engrave my design using the cnc. Just my luck, like the first assembly language program I wrote years ago had to be real time and count clock cycles for a PDP11. Oh well. Thank you so much Garrett for this tool database, this truly is awesome! As we all can see you have gone above and beyond for your customer and CNC'ers alike, and a huge shout out to Bill and Roger for their generosity of their time. Just going to load it all in and will follow up. Tank you again. and by the way the quality of the bits you supply I have found to be of super quality and pricing is also great. Andrew
Garrett: This is an excellant video. Thanks. I have just purchased your bits and downloaded the data base. The information for "2/28/24 is corrupted. Both the PDf and the tool database, however the information for 3/9/22 was okay. Thanks again for the information and the excellant videos John
Garrett great video, a real time saver. All the speeds and feeds entered for your bits in a few easy steps. I use your bits for your American Eagle/flag project came out great.
i can't say it enough, on how Garrett goed the extra mile to help you out, look forward to working with him more, this information is great and thanks to Bill for creating the data base.
OMG! This is perfect. IF I could give you a double thumbs up I would. I just got your starter set and was planning on spending my day installing all of the bits. Well you just took all of that work from me and made it a simple upload. Bravo.
Another great video Garrett! I have been setting up my bit database in VCarve Pro 9.5 since the import of IDC data is not supported. Your software version has some better features, so I will have to upgrade to make my life easier. Thank you sir!
Dion, glad you enjoyed the video brother! I am sorry but you will not be able to use the IDC database with your older version of Vectric. You will need to upgrade!
My machine is on order and just order some of your bits. My spindle will max at 18,000 rpm’s. On some of your bits in the database the spindle speed is higher than that. Do I have to change it to 18,000 and then adjust feeds to get same chip load numbers?
The Union, exactly right my friend! You'll want to adjust your feeds for the same chip load. You may want to keep an eye on having your machine running on max speed. I recommend backing off just a little bit since it will keep your machine happier longterm.
Hi Garrett. I live in the Middle East and here everything is metric. I am still new to the cnc world. I get a bit confused with trying to convert everything from inches to mm. Is there any way that you have the same database in metric?
Pierre, I dont have a database but I do have a feeds and speeds table that has metric bits too! Here is a link: bit.ly/3xiLebv The metric bits the last few pages.
Thanks for all this helpful information.....while I wait for my machine I am trying to devour as much VCarve Pro info as possible. I am having trouble finding ANY kind of tool database for toolpaths for Freud.....have you ran across this?
Jeremy, Cant help you much with Freud bits, although they do sell a nice set of router bits. The feeds and speeds that I include in this tool database will work for their bits too. All you need to do is make sure that the dimensions of the bits you have are the same. Don't want to use the feeds and speeds for a 1/4" end mill when you are using a 3/16" right! Haha
Hello, not sure if I'd have much luck but thought I'd ask anyways. I was wondering if you would have any idea or advice for a trouble im having with my workB CNC machine. I have downloaded CNCjs on my new DELL Windows laptop and when I connect the usb cable from the CNC machine to the laptop, it does not get identified. It shows that no Ports have been identified. Would you have any troubleshooting techniques I may be able to do? Thank you!
Exactly what I needed awesome ! Although I have to admit very time consuming manually entering in the feeds and speeds but a good learning curve to understand. Just listened to your Podcast and I will be ordering back up end mills for the "Backup" since proceeds help support St Jude Foundation ! Great work Garrett thanks for all the invaluable information. Keep on Carving 😎😎😎
Hello Garette, I was wondering if you are planning to add a drag knife bit selection to your tool database? Please thank Bill for me and I appreciate having this database. THANK YOU SIR!
Hi Garrett, Great website, great info for many CNC'ers. A quick question, because I work in mm, If I change the inch to mm in the tool database, will it auto change the relative info for mm users? Thank you for being thoughtful of others, by putting the tool database on your site for people like me.
Michael, this is a great question brother. There is likely a way that you can convert the data into mm but I have never done it myself! When I try it on my end, the settings don't switch over automatically so it may require a couple hoops to jump through to get it to work!
@@IDCWoodcraft Hi Garrett, Thank you for your reply, it's much appreciated. here's a question about a different subject. When I do a Vcare for example, Why is it that some of the lines only get a very faint carve line and not the same as the rest? How can I get a carve where all lines of the subject are say 2.4 mm deep? Do I use " Flat depth or do I leave it unchecked to get a certain depth of cut? I understand the material could be uneven, so I will do a quick surface, Do you think then, the carve depth will be the same? What determines the required depth of cut for any given project? Thank you, Garrett.
@@IDCWoodcraft Hi, Garrett, Please can you tell me, How to set up a drag bit? Do I adjust the tension on the actual bit? Also, what settings do I need in VCarve Pro when using the bit on Glass, Granite, Aluminium and acrylic? Thank you
@@IDCWoodcraft Hi Garrett, Thank you for your reply. I did actually reply before, but I'm not too sure if you have seen it yet. I did send you a message to your IDC Woodcraft store site, as it was the only way I could contact you, as I thought you probably wouldn't be looking on here too often. Thank you
Garrett, I can only agree with cruzmissle71 - you do go the extra mile and are always thinking one step ahead of what your CNC brothers and sisters may need next! Kudos to you, and thank you for your continued support for all of us out here!
Great Video, thanks to you I added the bits to my Vcarve Pro. I am waiting for my Long Mill 30 X 30 to be built and shipped, So I am watching your videos and "getting experience" making signs, trees of life, etc. Do I need to have the machine hooked up to populate the Machine tab in the Vcarve Pro program? If so how do I do it. Thanks,
Frank, I'm glad I could help! Hang in there, I know the wait is the hardest part my friend! Great question. No, you don't need to have the machine hooked up to populate the machine tab in Vcarve.
Hi Garrett. Easy to follow as usual. If a project is designed in metric, but the selected tool is imperial, does vectric automatically compensate ? E.g. a hole 8mm in size to be drilled 1/4in end mill on spiral setting? Will one land up with an 8mm hole? Thanks
Hey Garrett, great video. Just wondering about your Big Stiffy bowl bits. I just downloaded the bit library, and the only bit under bowl bits is a Radiused End Mill (Tip 0.317 - 1"). Will you be updating the data base soon for the Big Stiffy bits?
Garrett, thanks for the database. I am about to order a couple of bits and I have a question . How do the speeds feed rates of the tools change when working with a soft wood like pine? I there a rule of thumb that I can apply to modify the hardwood data? Or better yet, is there a separate database that I can download? Living here in the western U.S., hardwood is hard to find and expensive so I do most of my work with pine. A second question; in watching several other of your videos, I notice that you have a white backgound in your Gsender software. I like it much more than the black that I have. Is there an easy way to change to white? Again, thanks for all you are doing. I bought my Longmill and Vetric software based on your recommendations, and I am really happy with them both. You are perhaps doing such a good job with your videos that I have not had to go one-on-one with you. Thanks again Dick Garrett
James, the feeds and speeds I provided you works well in both soft woods and hard woods. You will need to practice getting familiar on your machine but typically with soft woods you can increase the feeds and speeds 10-15% if you want your machine to run faster. As for Gsender, I might be using an older version of their software. Take a look at their documentation and play around with the settings. There might be a setting in there that will help you. resources.sienci.com/view/gs-additional-features/ As for all the videos, you are so welcome my friend. Glad I can help.
chrisbruckner1554, I'm glad you appreciate the content! Unfortunately, I don't have a specific video on that topic, but you might find helpful information in the Carbide Create forums or user guides. Sorry I cant help on this one brother.
Howdy Garrett & Bill. On a future update to the tool database, can the IDC part number be added to the description? Yes, I know that I can click on the link for the tool once I'm inside the tool and get/see the part #. I'm just trying to cut down on the number of clicks when I'm setting up a cut .
You have the greateat video such attetion to detail I have downloaded you database and noticed its for hardwood is there a database for softwoods such as pine cedar mdf i find that manufactures seem to be all over the map for feeds and speeds i realize that bits are more than likely setup for bigger cnc machines than the longmill Thanks for any help or push in right direction

Loved the video on the tool data base. You made it clear and simple to understand. Unfortunately, my issue came when I went to download the link. The message I received was that it wasn't an active page and the page became an ad for AWeber. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Alan, that's strange I will look into the download link on my end and see if there's anything going on. In the meantime, here's a link to download the database that shouldn't give you issues: www.idcwoodcraft.com/download/19136/?tmstv=1669568598.
Thank you, Garrett, Bill and Roger. This is really great. I can see that the development of this database took a lot of time and work. I am finally going to do my first carve on my Onefinity that I purchased about 10 months ago later today. I can see that I will be purchasing additional bits as I move forward. Quick question, when you add more bits to the list how will we add them to our Vetric software? Will send out a new file and we will download everything again. I really appreciate everything that you do to help us. The UA-cam training videos have been great!
Jim, right on brother! I am excited for you to make your first carve! When I add new bits to the software, you will need to download a new file and reupload it or you can add it manually with the help of this video. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/670Xzgf0LiA/v-deo.html
Hi Garrett I live overseas (UK) shipping costs & import charges Are a significant concern can you comment on import duties / taxes Payable in the UK many thanks
Thank you very much for the tool database and all your helpful videos. I will be purchasing my first bits from you today. In the video I didn't understand the Tool number issue. I have a NextWave HD510 with a water cooled spindle and need to know if I need to be concerned with the tool numbers. Should I just leave them as is or do I need to change them? Can you please help me with this question? Best regards, Ray
Reaton, You are so welcome my friend. No need to be concerned my friend. My database comes with tool numbers already preconfigured! If you have issues, reach out to NextWave and they will point you in the right direction.
Thanks Garrett, I did not catch or see anyone in the comments ask if this file will work for Softwoods and plywood too or do you have a separate file for them?
I understand that feeds and speeds, etc. are based on hardwood and trim router. If I have a more powerful spindle, can those be adjusted / increased? Also, what about when using different materials? For example, if I am using the 1.5" surfacing bit to flatten my MDF spoil board...?
michaelbeckwith977, Yes, with a more powerful spindle, you can typically increase your feeds and speeds for better efficiency. When using different materials like MDF, you may need to adjust your settings to prevent burning or chipping. Start with conservative settings and gradually increase the speed and feed rate as needed, paying attention to the quality of the cut!
I like it!! Really nice not to have to enter every new bit, just buy and it’s already there. I thought of one question. If you change the speed and feed on a bit for a particular job, then the next time you pull up that bit, will it be the original settings or what it was set at for the previous job?
Garrett I have a shapeoko xx/cnc that runs a trim router.. and you can create a file in Vectric pro that uses different bits nd save it to 1 file . Because there is a post processor that is set up to do tool changes. So for to work right the tools have to have a number for the different bits. If you don't have your bits numbered then you will not be able to save the G code to 1file. So It is good that the numbering is . what happens to the numbering when you have selected all the end mils and go to the v bits . Does the numbering continue or or does it start over ( end mils end with number 6 and now you are in v bits is the first v bit 7 or 1 If not it would be nice if it could. Jeff peters
( 11:26) Vectric WILL remember your Tool Data base view if you go to "Edit", "Options", and change the second two option to "Yes". Save the file , and when you open a new session, your tool data base will look expanded.
Hey mate, once again another great tutorial, I have downloaded the Tool Database, I noticed there are NO form tools?? just out of curiosity, do you have any basic form tools you use as it is very hard to find the right profiles anywhere on the net for even just the basic ones to help in setting up ☹ or if you have Video on how to design the profiles on the basic form tools, Thanks in Advance mate 😁👍🏻👍🏻
Because form tools have infinite variety, I don't even try to add that to the database. I don't have any videos that teach how to do it. I'll create one eventually
@@IDCWoodcraft Garrett, no hurry and no pressure but will you let us know when the updated database with the long reach bits is available. Not sure how you intend to handle updates. Thanks in advance. You're doing a fantastic job! You're my go to for vectric and normal cnc stuff.

Thank you Garrett ! I am new to CNC and your video's have helped me learn so much as I wait for my Onefinity to arrive. I am currious if you are planning on making more database's for softwood and MDF ?
Thank you for the kind compliments about the channel. The numbers I use are general numbers. They can be used pretty much for anything. You might need to adjust a bit. But I will not be expanding the database for other materials. At least not yet
thank you Garrett for all of your classes on cnc for beginners, i have learned so much in the last month my head is still spinning. i am trying to download you tool database and to no avail, first it wants me to install aweber, I did that, still can't download, do you have another way to download file? thanks for a very helpful video however i can use the imported data in new projects but a cant see the full range of bits if i open an existing project, is it possible to view the imported date in historical work ? if so how??
shawnwebb2497, you are so welcome brother. The database should work on all projects! If you have a certian toolpath selected some bits might not show up. For example if you select a vcarve toolpath and select a tool, only V bits will populate. That may be your problem on this one brother!
I’m running Vectric Aspire. I just purchased 14 IDC bits and figured I’d be proactive and download the tool database for Aspire while I impatiently wait. 😂 BUT, after downloading and unzipping. Aspire doesn’t recognize the VTDB file when trying to import the new database. Did I miss a step?
My bits are in the Mail so I decided to put the feeds and speeds database in my computer before they got here and non of them are able to push select button. If I double clicked it says hide under tools or hide groups with incompatible tools? What do I do?
Justin, that's strange. I would reach out to Vcarve because you should have the select button. They'll be able to help you troubleshoot better than I can!
Thanks a lot sir, you gave me exact information that I need.. I am new user of cnc (bought cnc just 1 month before)... And only you tube videos are source of learning for me. Mentors like you helping me out many ways... Thanks
Thank you so much for the great effort you are making in this channel!!!! Garrett. Is there are easy way to change (convert) from inches to millimeters ? in this great tools database ? Thank you Brother ..!!!!!
Hi Dalf. You will have to set your project to mm. There is not a fast way to change the bit sizes other than to create a new branch in the database with all new data.
Hey Garrett, my data base was removed, which I think happened during a Vectric version update. Since my first data base update i have purchased additional bits from IDC. Is there an updated data base available?

However, I believe my database now has tools numbered from (T01-T70) and (T01-T85). Do I keep both or delete the (T01-T70) in my tool database? What is the latest version of tools for the database? Is it (T01-T85)? Thanks

I think your customer-centric approach is great and in my experience if you make it easy for your customers to buy and use your products then they will it’s good for your business. Mahalo
Hey Dennis, ya definitely try this approach out. It sound make your life a little easier getting them entered! Mahalo my friend
Garrett thanks again for your quick reply & for pointing me to this tutorial to get my database populated with all of your bits! 🙏🏽
Dawayne, you're so welcome! Glad to help!
Just downloaded, great addition to my v carve pro. Will be ordering some bits very soon. Gotta get my M&M's.
kevinduke6491, That's awesome to hear! Sounds like you have some fun projects planned ahead. Enjoy your new bits!
Andrew
Andrew, I am so happy to hear you are enjoying the database and that you are enjoying your bits!
Great video. Learned a lot about organizing my tool database to show what I need and eliminate clutter. Thanks
user-qx4yb9kn6h, you are so welcome my friend.
Garrett: This is an excellant video. Thanks. I have just purchased your bits and downloaded the data base. The information for "2/28/24 is corrupted. Both the PDf and the tool database, however the information for 3/9/22 was okay.
Thanks again for the information and the excellant videos
John
j.miller9383, sorry about the issues with downloading the database brother but I am happy to hear you got it sorted on 3/9.
Holy bit master!!!! This made everything so much easier!!!! Thanks to all,,,,
SteveCox, glad to hear it brother!
Garrett great video, a real time saver. All the speeds and feeds entered for your bits in a few easy steps. I use your bits for your American Eagle/flag project came out great.
Robert, glad to help brother! And I'm happy the eagle/flag project turned out great!
i can't say it enough, on how Garrett goed the extra mile to help you out, look forward to working with him more, this information is great and thanks to Bill for creating the data base.
cruzmissile71, Thanks brother! You and I both are thankful for Bill and his generous help to create the tool base.
OMG! This is perfect. IF I could give you a double thumbs up I would. I just got your starter set and was planning on spending my day installing all of the bits. Well you just took all of that work from me and made it a simple upload. Bravo.
Hi Martha. I am so glad to hear this. I figure we are here to design, not take care of technical stuff. Problem solved!!
Garrett, I haven't seen any downloads for Materials, specifically Aluminum. Does the material selected adjust the speeds/feeds etc. of the tool?
Brian, great question brother. You'll have to adjust the feeds and speeds manually when you change the materials.
@@IDCWoodcraft awesome. Newbie question here. What about makita router speeds for these bits. Is that notated somewhere?
The complete tool database is REALLY helpful and a time saver! Thank you Garrett 👍

Matt, you're so welcome brother!
Love it! Being that my bits from IDC just came in this weekend, this is PERFECT! Thank you Garrett.
Hey Ed. Whew...just made it then.
Here is a link: bit.ly/3xiLebv
The metric bits the last few pages.
Great Job Bill. Wish I was smart enough to do that. Thanks for doing this for us.
Jim
Jim, glad this one helped you brother.
Thank you Garrett, brilliant help and also many thanks to Bill for putting the original DB together
Hi David. You are welcome. And I'll pass on the message to bill.
Haha
Another home run from Garrett. It make my life so much easier or maybe i'm just lazy. Thanks either way.
Ya' know Bruce, this is just one of those things that helps a ton of people who are still figuring this stuff out.
Great information. It Makes all the tool infor mation more accessible. Thank you.
Robert, you bet brother! I'm glad it was helpful for you!
Thank you!
Unfortunately, you are correct. I can't really help. However I do have some good news for you. Sign up to the CNC troubleshooters group and ask there
Exactly what I needed awesome !
Cjtoledor, glad to hear this one helped you out! Thank you for the support for a good cause.
Hello Garette, I was wondering if you are planning to add a drag knife bit selection to your tool database? Please thank Bill for me and I appreciate having this database. THANK YOU SIR!
Dave, I do have the diamond engraver in there but not a drag knife yet! I will look into it my friend.
Thank you Garrett and Bill, this is awesome!!! great job as always!!....Rod
Rod, you are so welcome my friend.
Greg, thank you brother! I appreciate the support.
Great Video, thanks to you I added the bits to my Vcarve Pro.
I am waiting for my Long Mill 30 X 30 to be built and shipped,
So I am watching your videos and "getting experience" making
signs, trees of life, etc. Do I need to have the machine hooked up
to populate the Machine tab in the Vcarve Pro program? If so
how do I do it.
Thanks,
Frank, I'm glad I could help!
Thanks
That's a good question. The software knows what the bit is, and the size of it. So it will still carve accordingly. You'll be fine
@@IDCWoodcraft Thank you so much. Super responsive and helpful as always!
John, thank you. Great question, I should be updating this soon!
Thank you Garrett and Bill.
Awesome! Love it!
Hey Bill. thank you!!!1
Garrett, thanks for the database.
Thanks again
Dick Garrett
James, the feeds and speeds I provided you works well in both soft woods and hard woods. You will need to practice getting familiar on your machine but typically with soft woods you can increase the feeds and speeds 10-15% if you want your machine to run faster.
As for Gsender, I might be using an older version of their software. Take a look at their documentation and play around with the settings. There might be a setting in there that will help you. resources.sienci.com/view/gs-additional-features/
As for all the videos, you are so welcome my friend. Glad I can help.

Outstanding! Thank you Bill & Garrett.
You're totally welcome JR!
Is that HOG bit in the database, or do I need to add it manually?
It's in the database. If not, I have an updated database on the IDC website
Great Video Garrett. Thanks for all this info. Do you have settings for the soft woods as well?
The settings in this table are general for most wood except extremely hard wood. It will work for most wood do you work with
Is there a video you have about adding your database to the new carbide create version? Thank you for all you do for the CNC community!
chrisbruckner1554, I'm glad you appreciate the content!
Hi JR. I'll do that. Thanks
You have the greateat video such attetion to detail
I have downloaded you database and noticed its for hardwood
is there a database for softwoods such as pine cedar mdf i find that manufactures seem to be all over the map for feeds and speeds i realize that bits are more than likely setup for bigger cnc machines than the longmill

Thanks Garrett, I did not catch or see anyone in the comments ask if this file will work for Softwoods and plywood too or do you have a separate file for them?
EricGnarski, this will work for softwoods and plywoods!
Thank you for the Router Bit Database. Having that information will be a great help.
TimothyBowman, you are so welcome my friend.
@@IDCWoodcraft Thank you!

I like it!! Really nice not to have to enter every new bit, just buy and it’s already there. I thought of one question. If you change the speed and feed on a bit for a particular job, then the next time you pull up that bit, will it be the original settings or what it was set at for the previous job?
Hey Bob, I'm glad you liked it! That's a great question. It should revert back to the original settings on your next job.
@@IDCWoodcraft Ok. Thought it would, but never hurts to ask. Thanks for the reply and great work on it from both of you guys!
If u change it from "edit" rather "select" on ur toolpath section it won't be changed forever. (it works for me)
Garrett I have a shapeoko xx/cnc that runs a trim router.. and you can create a file in Vectric pro that uses different bits nd save it to 1 file .
Jeff peters
Regarding numbering, Just pick a number that isn't used. You can go up to 3 digitd
Great video as always! Please settle an argument. Is the tool data base available if you are using a TRIAL version of the vectric desktop software?
bigkahunaranch1715, great question brother. It sure is but you wont be able to create any toolpaths!
@@IDCWoodcraft But you can’t add another tool database like IDC database, correct?

( 11:26) Vectric WILL remember your Tool Data base view if you go to "Edit", "Options", and change the second two option to "Yes". Save the file , and when you open a new session, your tool data base will look expanded.

Hi Garrett, I always try to update the latest data base you have on your Router bits. So, I downloaded the latest file and uploaded them into the tool database in Vetric (merging without override). However, I believe my database now has tools numbered from (T01-T70) and (T01-T85). Do I keep both or delete the (T01-T70) in my tool database? What is the latest version of tools for the database? Is it (T01-T85)? Thanks
Maxgarcia, for this I would recommend you just use the database with tools (T01-T85). I added quite a few bits in recent months and I want you to have the latest and greatest.
