I worked out a way to get ALL of Diaz's bodyguard in the Governor's Mansion battle. I know, they were reluctant, but XP is XP! First off, as a standard, I convert Luis into a Repair unit identical to Chaeffer as soon as I acquire the La Alianza pilots. Second, in double squad battles like this, I send Luis over to their side, and pull their Items packhorse (Sancho) over to assist the PC's. The PC goal (as learned in the valley battle) is the get pairs of units positioned so that you can physically block all 3 of the exits once they start running away; that done, you can kill them at leisure. The helos just fly over, so killing them FIRST is an absolute priority. Rodriguez, as a grenadier, is useless for that! Keep your kill count of actual wanzers down (spare mortally wounded ones) until you are able to block the exits in your next move. Rodriguez is however, an excellent doorstop. This plan necessitates a three way party split. The LA wanzers tackle the group in the heart of the city. Two Move 6 PC wanzers (Darrin and Renges?) charge up the center avoiding contact with either set of enemies. The rest of the PC's go all the way left and hit the pocket of enemies there. Darrin and Renges eventually engage the top left set (helo first) and act as the doorstops there. Luis peels off to the right midway to flank the VSA there, and start repairing LA units. Tricky to pull off, but oh so satisfying when you do!
I. LOVE. this game. Tried the fan patched 5 afterwards and didn't get far into it at all. It just felt *weird*. I should give 5 another chance, to be fair, but I really didn't click with it within the first hour or two. It wasn't even "Oh too linear\boring\simple" because...yeah, games have beginnings. Ionno. Four is just SPECIAL. Elsa
@@WhiteFangofWar That's probably all true! I quite liked the Durandal altogether, Hermes being a standout. For the Darrill team, it was basically him and Renges for the most part, tbh :-P
Yeah, i couldnt really get myself into FM5:SoW either. Not the narrative, at least. Idk, it tries to be gritty, raw and somewhat mature, i guess...But its so damn cliche, even for its time, I just cant handle it. Fact that it follows a certain "predictable anime'esque writing" doesnt help it by one bit, least, not on my end. Here, FM4s somewhat more varied, *in the sense that it kept distracting us by jumping from one narrative to the other* , possibly as an effort to keep the players intrigued, loosely speaking. Rather than just, yknow, the POV of one dude, and one dude only, for the rest of the game...And for this dude having the typical "protagonist syndrome" nonetheless, with a hint of _naruto_ bits sprinkled in between lmao But hey, FM5s a lot more replayable, and got more to offer in gameplay & presentation wise, so...Really cool, tbh👌 I REALLY like the upgrade system, and the laddered-dungeon-loot levels to boot, too. Oh, and fact that we can carry "sniper weapons" on one hand, if only for the purpose of looking extra badass, if anything else lol Now, if only i have the motivation to finish it, cuz i missed the "option" to recruit Darril so i have to start all over again from square one, *on my very first playthru* Great. Wonderful. Gotta go thru all the tedious "talk to A then B & C then talk to Y and back and repeat" again, its _simulated-non-linearity_ scenario included...And the generic drama/romance/friendship-is-magic bits all over again,....Sigh Srry, rambling. But still
The politics in this game are pretty straightforward, nothing hard to understand, it's a good introduction to politics. Anyway, if they recorded any conversation, the problems would be solved quite quickly.
Its a very stupid move for plot about politic intrigues and spy games, look for FM3, there the political thriller is presented much better, heres just kindergarten with good clear guys and bloodthurst traitors
Relax, bud. As OP said, "it's a good introduction to politics". Emphasis on "introduction" Besides, not everything has to be a "gray area" for a narrative to be effective. Sometimes its best for it to do all that it needed to do, and sometimes, thats all that is necessary. Less "complications", that way As for the "generic villains"; Theyre okay, really. Bad blood leads to bad blood, as they say, (and i do believe that not everybody in the _good-guys gang_ were all saints either, Durandals included [*iirc*]), then we have our usual authoritarian/figures in power, marred by greed. Boring, i know, but thats a lot more relatable than the typical "overtly-complex, _miraculously unfortunate_ fallen hero/victim syndrome" and their impossibly ambitious crusades, dont you think? Its more human that way
Ok good to know. Another question in the caracas mission, why bunching up all the units in the bridge? All the units were getting hit all at once by the grenadier
Probably to buy time to take out the other enemies and I underestimated the range. I recorded this like 7 months ago, most of the details have left me.
Man, I came up with a ridiculous conspiracy theory about Port Nikolaev part. It is because I leave in Ukraine (the place where this mission happens) and everything in the dialogues is absolutely true! How could the developers back in 2000s know the truth? And the part about Zaftra (Russia) losing export to the U.S???? It is also quit possible taking intro consideration what is happening now. Man, I feel like there is just too many coincidences here! That's just a mad man theory but i can wait for a few more decades to find out if I am correct or not)
Friking love this game. play it once in a while.

Earlier traitor villain stated that the squad of main characters is the only thing that did not go according to plan, what a fucking Scooby Doo

Why did you switch the fire armor in the beginning of the caracas mission?
Weird question. As I recall, the launchers are the most dangerous thing in the mission and I end up losing units to them.
Ok good to know. Another question in the caracas mission, why bunching up all the units in the bridge? All the units were getting hit all at once by the grenadier

WTB a remastered Front Mission 4 with more side missions!
