Very good video. I just bought one just because of your video. I have a Radio Shack scanner already and it came with a manual at did was still very confusing. Your video was very right to the point and exactly what i needed to program San Bernardino's Motorola system. Thanks again.
Thanks alot! This video is very helpful I was going to purchase the Uniden BC346XTC but did not know how to program anne arundel county police on the 800mhz. This was the MOST helpful video in doing so. Once I purchase the handheld I assume the function of programming will be damn similar. Thanks for showing the site it was very thorough
thank you very much .. I myself am in public safety and reside in Rio Vista .. its great that you are able to help others learn there surroundings .. lets stay in touch the name of the game is being informed
Nicholas..thank you vary much man.i got bct15 over 1year old.cound'nt figure it out did same thing.there was no videos out there at all..you really helped my out.i was going to resale it..not NOW...THANKS AGAIN...
Thanks for the info, i will buy this scanner now. I am also a ham radio opperator here in chattanooga tn.And love to scan. Its nice to know whats going on where you live.. Stay safe my friend.
also to correct myself. when you get to the step where you enter in the channels it will not say channel 1. it was be listed as the talk group ID . so if the first channel you entered has the ID "208" it will say 208 it will not say channel 1. my apologies
Hey Nick, awesome videos! I watched both videos all the way and followed along. I live in Sacramento and trying to program my scanner just like yours. for some reason I wasn't able to complete the process on mine, (same scanner). Anyways I could use some help, if you area available let me know!
Excellent video...one ? When it came to entering my group DEC tags, you showed only 3 digit dec tags, mine are all 5 digit dec...scanner keeps saying bad tag
Do you have any idea why my scanner sounds like the priority is on ? when the police talk it cuts in and out once in awhile. I have the same scanner. When the cutting comes on the display says primary. thank you, Joe
This was very useful compared to any other video or site. I just have one question. After programming my scanner still picks up other talk IDs which I didn't program and are in other city's which I don't want to pick up. How do I stop that? Do I lock out those ids?
Nicholas Sparks Nicholas Sparks got it. Thanks. I have another question if your able to answer. So I set up my local site and entered the frequencies my county uses for my area which is a Motorola type II smartzone, I'm assuming they were the same as smartnet as you described because I couldn't find anything online about it. I entered talk group for my local dispatch/police and fire. I can hear other talk groups fine, but for some reason when the scanner picks up the local dispatch for police it's all jumbled or staticky. Just wondering if I did something wrong along the way. It's under San Diego county sheriffs department. (California) Motorola type II smartzone and imperial beach talkgroups. I appreciate your help.
JOey B I'm not sure exactly. It could be an antenna issue. I'm not familiar with smart zone so I can't really say. I do know that with the smartness system if more than one person keys up and starts talking on the radio at the same time it sounds all jumbled and weird sounding. Other than those 2 things I can't think of anything else at the moment.
I have been trying to program my Uniden BCD996xt and I have added all frequencies and TGID numbers but when I put it to scan I does nothing. and the primary channel do not show on screen like yours. I am trying todo Edacs, trucking also I have done P25 and does not scan any frequencies. can you help me out please?
Great video! However, shortly after i got my unit programmed, I had some issues. The keypad stopped working. I thought it was the keypad lock feature, but it wasn't. I managed to fix it once by resetting it to factory defaults. It seemed to work for a while after that, but the second time it failed, the factory reset did nothing. Waiting to hear back from uniden on repair. Have you had any similar issues?
FlyBy yes an antenna comes with it. It's a standard telescoping metal antenna. It CAN work as a mobile antenna but I would recommend getting an actual mobile antenna if you intend to install the radio in your vehicle.
FlyBy it has a built in speaker. I highly recommend the TRAM all band through glass mount antenna with a BNC connector. They are on Amazon for under $20
do I have to have a specific type of antenna? because I'm trying to listen to the police on the 800 mhz frequency and I followed your video step by step and I'm not getting a lot of traffic on the scanner, but the scanner on my phone is going crazy.
Yes, I was using the antenna that came with the scanner. I've checked the control frequencies and I'm getting bits and pieces of PD trunked transmissions and none from EMS trunked system. But I'm definitely going to try a different scanner antenna.
+George Raab the one it comes with works well. perhaps you require a different bandplan. my friends scanner just stopped working it couldn't find control channels anymore. perhaps the firmware needs to be updated. I'm not sure how that works though.
I tried the firmware update; didn't work, I ordered 2 all band antenna from ebay. I should get the antennas on Friday Jan 8. I didn't think about the band plan. I'm extremely novice at this whole programming thing with this scanner. I don't want someone else to program the scanner because if something happens I'd like to know how to fix it. I'll let you know how the antenna works out. I'm sorry if I'm being a pain in the ass. LOL. Thank You for all your help so far.
Hey, when you are listening to Group 1, is that all talkgroups in Vaccaville PD? can you change them to a different channel and only listen to a talk group and not dispatch?
well i got my scanner in today, mind you its off ebay and an open box so here we go I watched your video twice, got my data all in order, i got my county Law and fire programmed just fine until i pressed scan theres ALABAMA system built in it from a prev user. So i thought ok I'll try to delete the system, nope cant find it. only system that shows it my county i created. Maybe if i do a reset of the scanner holding HOLD 2 & 9 will fix it NOPE! Alabama junk still there! anyone else having an issue like this? I want to use the scanner but i need to remove this alabama shit so it wont scan it i tried L/O all of it but it still reverts to scan it .
Its because you have the "state" turned on. I dont remember 100% but I believe you press the squelch or the volume knob and it will bring up the states and you can turn them off from there. Again dont remember 100%. Hope that helps.
You’re such a G. Thank you for this. You make it so easy to follow
I think u did a VARY GOOD job on showing how to program these scanners

thanks so much, this video was very helpful. I searched and searched thru so many that didn't help at all. thanks again well done sir.
Without this video presentation I would have a Uniden door stop. Nicholas, good job
IT IS A GOOD VIDEO , I LEARNED A LOT !
Nicholas..thank you vary much man.i got bct15 over 1year old.cound'nt figure it out did same thing.there was no videos out there at all..you really helped my out.i was going to resale it..not NOW...THANKS AGAIN...
no problem. someone had to do it lol. some people seem to still be having trouble even after watching my videos on it. it's a pain at first.
You say one thing , like channel 3. But the scanner doesnt say channel 3 .
It says part 3 .
Is this the same thing ?
I'm no mind reader sorry ....
A Big Thank You From West Sacramento!
Thanks for the info, i will buy this scanner now. I am also a ham radio opperator here in chattanooga tn.And love to scan. Its nice to know whats going on where you live.. Stay safe my friend.

THANK YOU THIS HELPED ME SO MUCH
You are awesome ,I just ordered one. I belong to a gmrs club hope I can use this for them too .looks like along road to program .thanks again 👍
Good information here Nicholas
I'm getting this scanner soon
The question is how do you get the frequency on the third lane where the narrow FM AM and FM band?
I have all the frequencies i need , i cant just enter these frequencies without giving names to them ? ?
is there software to program this scanner?
i have done this but still only get static or no modulation? what am i doing wrong?
Hey Nick, awesome videos! I watched both videos all the way and followed along. I live in Sacramento and trying to program my scanner just like yours. for some reason I wasn't able to complete the process on mine, (same scanner). Anyways I could use some help, if you area available let me know!
Is it possible to only scan all the frequencies within a system?
ohearn yes. You can select to SCAN or SEARCH the frequencies in a system in the menu.
Yes. Thank you!!!!!!
NICK , WHY WOULD I NOT HERE VOICE OVER SCANNER WHEN IT STOPS ON A CLOSE BY SIGNAL ?
Where did you get the "input frequencies" from?
from the link in the description
radioreference.com!
Excellent video...one ? When it came to entering my group DEC tags, you showed only 3 digit dec tags, mine are all 5 digit dec...scanner keeps saying bad tag
My city just uses 3 numbers. Some cities use 4 or more. Just enter the Dec numbers that are on the list for your area.
Do you have any idea why my scanner sounds like the priority is on ? when the police talk it cuts in and out once in awhile. I have the same scanner. When the cutting comes on the display says primary. thank you, Joe

JOey B I believe if it's on ID SEARCH you'll hear all channels. If you switch it to ID SCAN you can turn off the ones you don't to hear.
Nicholas Sparks Nicholas Sparks got it. Thanks. I have another question if your able to answer. Smartnet * not smartness lol
Nicholas Sparks ok. I'll try a bigger antenna and start from there. I appreciate your insight on the matter thanks
is there somewhere you can take it to have programed?

what mobile antenna is best and does the police scanner have its own speakers
FlyBy it has a built in speaker. I highly recommend the TRAM all band through glass mount antenna with a BNC connector. They are on Amazon for under $20
FlyBy antenna model number is TRAM 1199. You can also go with a magnet mount antenna. Just make sure the connector is a BNC connector.
i was thinking more like something small that would go by my window inside the car
thank you for the video it help't me with my bct15 i got at ham fest

+George Raab no worries. all I can think of is the bandplan maybe being different. I'm no expert myself either.
Hey, when you are listening to Group 1, is that all talkgroups in Vaccaville PD? can you change them to a different channel and only listen to a talk group and not dispatch?
yes you can press the HOLD function and scroll to the channel you wish to listen too.
and does the bct15x do the new apco phase 2
That I am unaware of.
My artist name's R05in Fairfield :D
