"I don't drink, I don't smoke, I ain't got kids so I may as well spend it on climbing kit," is the vibe 🤣

MicroTraxion can also be great for self-rescue in multipitch climbing, i.e. any situation where you'd setup a N:1 haul system, or for rope ascending

Alpine runner (red one,) most useful thing I've bought for aged, use it specifically in winter fir buildings belays on ice, super easy and quick to use

BD rabbit runners are nice for extended alpine draws as another niche piece of gear.

I use the blue ice 55cm runner for a prussic, great friction and €11 it's pretty cheap!

Interestingly I asked Blue Ice about this… whilst I’m not sure if in reality they behave differently to any other prusik, they said:
The Alpine runner isn’t recommended for this use. You can find in this link recommendations for using alpine runners : 100395-Alpine runner instructions-web (blueice.com) .
“USAGE- d. : Any use that can produce friction on another textile element is prohibited”.

Not sure why but my initial reply got deleted by YT... Blue Ice do say not to use it as a Prusik, I emailed them to confirm this. I don't know why specifically though as in why a Jammy for example is ok but Blue Ice say no.

Thank you for that, very kind to take the time to ask and to reply, bummer because I found it ideal as a back up😢@@JBMountainSkills

Nice! I tried a Grivel Vlad carabiner/rigging plate recently for a trip trad climbing with friends and their kids. With a lot going on at belays having a few unique points to clip to was good. I appreciate the unique twin gate design but at the same time it made it a bit fiddly to retrieve from the already crowded back loop of my harness. Not necessary but kinda nice?

Wildcountry ropeman. Having a ropegrab, and backup thats easy to release can be invaluable. And it weights next to nothing.

What do you actually use it for though?

@JBMountainSkills For Climbing mostly as a personal anchor. But rope access wise have used it as a rope grab to ascend ropes as well as to create 3:1 haul systems. It's less so a piece of kit I use regularly and more so something I have on my Climbing kit just in case.

Be careful with the original hollowblock. There were some reports that it was breaking at bodyweight loads. They fixed the issue with the new version.

2:30 the Spoc? It’s nice and cheaper. Don’t see what the microtraxion has on it.

Good vid. What is the benefit of a plate over a belay device with guide mode?

Cheers. The Gigi or similar are smoother to pull ropes through so are an elbow / shoulder saver. Not a necessity but useful if you’re doing a lot of mileage.

I have played a little bit with a short blue ice alpine runner as a prusik. I think there is a lot of potential there. Any thoughts?

I know a certain UKC personality who took skyhooks with him. He used to find placements for them at rest points so he could take the weight of the rope off himself. Cheating? Or genius?
