I have marched in Famu band back in the 90’s and for them to play that piece after what ASU played reminds me of Drumline hit them with Flight of the bumblebee 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
I swear I said the same thing, kinda can tell by the reaction 😂😂😂
On God😂😂
That last song FAMU played was Elsa's Procession. They play that in honor of Dr. Foster, founder of the band, because it was his favorite. It's actually a concert band piece.
@ricoclark4783, No one but them cares.
Let it df go 🤦🏾♂️
Other schools don't have or care about musicianship. This is why the 100 recruits more musicians/scholars Md invited more places. Other schools are cool with an occasional invite to something prestigious but cool with hood performances. ..... Not like us
He not in Alabama so it makes no sense they played that because they wanted to leave Doc out of that lol😂
@@bruceivey8494not really
Sade "Is it a Crime" was very nice.
Best song of the battle
This has Drumline written all over it 😂
😂
Bro im on the floor when you said famu do yall even be excited to play stuff like this??? Im thinking the exact same thing especially in the 5th quarter
Congrats to ASU on an obvious victory. “Bye Bye Bye” & “ Is It A Crime” were some of the best pieces I’ve ever heard from that program.
If that’s the best you heard. Clean your ears cause asu is trash.
@@MansaBCthey really got you bothered lol

FAMU is a field show band. Fifth Quarter battles are not their thing! 🤦🏾♂️
I hope yall realize a little before this performance Famu was just recovering from a hurricane that hit tally, that explains some of the mistakes made throughout their halftime show as well as the 5th. They were even off tempo in their slow number which is very uncharacteristic for them. As far as the style and the sound from famu, (Aside from the dedications) there’s literally nothing wrong with FAMU’s sound. You can’t every band to emulate the “brassy” sound of the swac, FAMU’s band is woodwind heavy for a reason, they’ll always have more of a symphonic tone as long as their woodwinds outnumber their brasses. ASU got the W, but if you still think Famu is “Trash” your opinion is wrong. If that was the case Famu wouldn’t be able to recruit 600+ HS band campers and they wouldn’t be almost 300 strong every year. Despite what the rest of the swac think people (even outside of Florida) LOVE FAMU
dont use no hurricane as an excuse and nobody says famu is trash MANY people love and root for famu but this is the swac they have to adjust to it if you want to be fr many see famu as a ''white'' band if you know what i mean a lot of the stuff they play in the meac aint gonna match up to what bands do in the swac, its a lot more ghetto and its a different audience in the most respectful way.not only that many say they beat asu last year so its not hate
rogerbros spoke on it in their recent live when they where asked how meac bands were adjusting to the swac aka norfolk and famu and they said some valid stuff
Bro ASU came for smoke!
They peeled them folks whole wig caps back.
OMG… That Sade “Is it a Crime” is legendary…✅ 10:32….
@kingDru oh yeah they worked. They're moving up in the ranks the last few years.
lol…. Just deduction, just deduction, just deduction….. no, no, no, no fam….. 😂😂😂😂😂I’m dying!
That Famu band director is TIRED! 😭😭 they need a rebrand because they’ve been acting like a PWI lately.
Never understood the hype behind FAMU don’t even come close to Southern, Jackson State or Alabama State
You have got to be stupid! SU, JSU and ASU gets no recognition by the larger band community. They sound terrible.
@@qwhite7855 you not understanding sounds like a personal problem. lol. The leaders of the band world understand and the kids coming up understand. Hence why FAMU’s band camp is the biggest and has been for a very long time. FAMU is on their own when it comes to how they want to sound. ASU my all time favorite band. Dr. Oliver is doing his thang this season!
FAMU sounds like the band Dr. Lee led in Drumline. 🤣
Seems like anytime a band plays some Sade it becomes one of their best songs
The hype behind FAMU was once upon a time 😂
Lol not once upon a time😀
FAMU did you not understand that this was a 5th quarter battle and ASU homecoming not a concert song selections matters and the stingettes they was fabulous 🖤🖤💎
Asu slaughtered Famu!
Famu’s delusional fans think they are superior to swac bands, but the proof is in the pudding.
And will argue with you about the fact they can play a march
@@Stillway2006them nicca's don't even drill the field at halftime. Isn't that what bands suppose to do. Oh yeah and they're music doesn't have any soul. However I will say this they have a good sound.

I agree. Trying to flex but it didn't work

Excellent review of the 5th. FAMU could be great if they get out of their own way. I don't know any other band this stuck on tradition. IT'S TIME TO EVOLVE!!!!
No
BCU their brother is also in the same boat, however I give famu credit for playing updated songs. The shit is boring though
FAMU still ain’t SWAC !😂
I don’t mind FAMU playing Elsa’s…but these marches in the 5th has to go!
Dude, fam sound is SWAC which is hard. FAMU is smooth like wine. You’re going to always go with SWAC because you love the scream

FAMU play some music. Take that pinkie finger out the air. This is the SWAC!!!
That game is November 16th KB. Hope to see you there
"Pots-and-Pans" (famu's band) does not know what it's doing. You can tell they're not familiar with Swac Band Battles.
It’s crazy that famu fans talk about musicality when it comes to marches but struggle and skate through r&b and rap tunes which suppose to less technical. 😂😂😂

I'm a FAMU fan, why does every song sound like Flight Of The Bumble Bee??? Not the FAMU I grew up listening to.😂😂😂😂
Fam has never been a battling band , they have great musicianship but dont have the aggressive nature that they need to be in the swac
That Georgy Porgy was fonky by ASU
I'm laughing at these comments. Telling FAMU to change their traditions is like telling JSU to stop playing "Get Ready" or stop doing the "JSU Rocks The House" at the end of their shows. Now, I will admit that FAMU will never be a 5th Quarter SWAC band because it's not in their DNA to play like that. So, expecting FAMU to play like an SU, JSU, Bama, or any other SWAC band (which IMO is WAY to much overplaying for me) is expecting too much. @KBThaBandhead, you should know this by now. LOL
You can keep your tradition and still EVOLVE. To me, it just sounds like some programs just want to be stuck in their ways. That's kool but don't complain about the negative comments that come with that.
@@KBThaBandheadJSU still have their tradition and has been evolving
If Asu keep progressing like this they will be in the top 2 soon. Su been lazy the last two years and can't seem to get they're shine back. If they keep it up next season Asu will take they're slot. Brian you better come see about ya boys , Taylor can't handle em.

famu plays that last song after every game like after everything is over its a traditional . Alabama was packing it up thats why you seen them with there uniform on in the last clip. That part lowkey shouldnt have been recorded.
@trooda7831, Other bands don’t know or care about their tradition.
Therefore, if they play a song in a 5th (regardless of reason) the other band is likely to respond.

ASU with Toto's Georgy Porgy @ 6:57 was dope and FAMU Phil Collins "Sussudio" was good. Tough song for any band to execute. And then ASU hit 'em with Is It A Crime. Lawdhammercy ASU.
Bama State you need to go back to the drawing board with that Before i Let You Go. Need something because it sounds off. Watch this to see what we're taliking about.
im cool with playing a march. my favorite is purple carnival, but if you gone play some thing like that at least make it clean like bruh said.

Peas and carrots ain't it
Famu come on with 60 damn woodwinds 😂😂😂 this ain’t 03 anymore.. if ya cut that in half and add more low brass Fam would be nasty 🤦🏽♂️
@Trap323a, If they featured those 60 woodwinds in better up-to-date arrangements, they would still be better than what they presented.
I agree
Famu just has a different style from everyone else… and that’s not changing no matter the conference. You can see they’re trying to adapt to the Swac approach but at it core the 100 will always be different…
It’s a boring ass style. FAMU lives in a bubble all by themselves smh.

The last 2 songs were originals from FAMU. The second to the last was on the FAMU gospel choir Grammy winning album with the Clark sisters in the late 90’s / early 2000’s. The last is written and composed by FAMU most iconic band director that was and still is revered by band directors here and aboard. You are comparing a cover band verse the actual artist. FAMU for the entire win!
9:30 famu played that song bama played against JSU in 22
A March IS an actual song bro.....COME ON MAN🤷 Music is music and marches so "ARE" songs in contrast to these alternative facts that many are spreading....
Marches are for zero quarter sir … not the 5th … yall suck ass 😂
BAMA Did some damn TOTO- George Porgy !!! I gotta show this to Steve Lukather one day
You missed FAMU Flight of Bubble Bee first song!!😂😂
FAMU got terribly sloppy. They're attempting to get that "SWAC" sound, but sacrificing their musicianship. If only they learned how to use their size to their advantage. The trumpets were absent the whole battle
Elsa's is a traditional classic for us but I must admit it was a SNOOZE fest in this execution of it and its primarily because of execution. Elsa's CAN be an exciting intriguing piece, IF the directors include more dynamic contrast in the song...Sadly it truly was a melatonin fest🤷
They are who they are. They're not, nor will they ever be a "battle" band. They're going to play marches and a few songs her and their
My favorite SWAC band "Bama State".
34:44 I use to always wonder those same questions lol people CHOOSE to go there knowing what they gettin in. So I guess they do be ready to play that book
FAM definitely has about 2 trumpets that just can't get it together
MMH 🐝🐝🐝
It’s weird to me how many non-musicians exist in the hbcu band world. Like asu sounded great but some of fams songs are incredibly impressive.
They were sloppy on alot of their songs. Bad execution.
It’s not solely about that. Placement, selection, preference, execution, etc etc etc
If you think FAMU songs were impressive clearly your not a musician. 😂😂
I think folks need to understand that there's an ENTIRE CULTURE and etiquette that comes with performing in a 5th quarter, fr. You're not just playing for your own edification. You've got an audience, just like you do at halftime. That audience should be the MAIN target a band should be strategizing for, PARTICULARLY in the SWAC where the culture LENDS to it.
I'm just glad to see our kids progressing overall, mane... #SNAPSNAPDriiiive

When it comes to HBCUs Marching Bands. Size does matter. This was like a Concert vs talent show. Concert ASU is more louder. The energy going to be felt.
I hate when yall try to discredit other bands. This is another reason I absolutely can't stand the M100. Bama State sounded just as good and was clearly not focused on just volume.
Louder, but when you have to play in the lower register with dynamics, these WACK programs have no executional abilities
ASU's woodwinds sound out of tune especially when they get featured...is it just me??🤔🤔🤔
Just you
ASU woodwinds sound terrible like the rest of the SWAC. I remember when ASU came to tally and tried to play purple carnival against famu. We just laughed esp at the trio
@@th3livinglegendit's 2024 and you're talking about a game from 2008? Come on man lol... our woodwinds were solid THIS game. This is why so many non-M100 people lack respect for some of yall 🤦🏿♂️

We were down to 6 tubas and 12 trumpets so you guys are not the only band that had to rebuild.
Just to let you know, this isn’t the full band because their band is huge

from a famu fan i think they are finally letting some volume show and i love that, but they gotta lock in and stop messing shi up.
i feel like people are more focused on famu deductions (which is fair) but asu’s phrasing is poor and just don’t sound as solid as famu does. yeah they got more volume, but they don’t have a good balance like jsu for example. a lot people won’t say anything about that tho cus most yall only hear volume

But the technical capacity from ASU and the rest of the SWAC just aint there.
@th3livinglegend, Swac bands play what spectators want to hear.
The point to entertainment is to be entertaining to the masses watching.
