M/S of a group of men standing around, one man hands some money over to John Foley. He is the stakeholder for the competition of road bowling where two men bowl a ball down the roads over a two mile stretch. C/U of John's hands counting the money. C/U of his face as he says something to the group.
M/S of the group moving about, the two competitors take off their jackets. They are Bill Desmond aged 21 and Joe Ahern aged 22. John takes some more bets. M/S of Joe holding the ball, some of the group are stood behind him. C/U of the ball. M/S of Bill running down the street and bowling the ball. M/S as a large group of men walk down the street. M/S as Joe kicks the ball. C/U of a tuft of grass being placed on the road and the ball dropped on it. M/S of two men wearing flat caps watching. M/S of the men, one is signalling to someone to move over. M/S of some men stood in the background and another man jumping up and down. L/S of the group stood about on the road, Bill runs up and bowls. The men move on, M/S of the group walking up the road. M/S of Joe picking up the ball, C/U of him hitting it with a stone. C/U of his face. L/S of the group as they move with the ball. MS of two men in flat caps watching. M/S from the back of Joe bowling. C/U of an elderly man in a flat cap smoking a pipe. L/S of the ball running up the road. Various shots of the ball and the group. C/U of John and another man watching.
M/S of the ball rolling over the finish line. M/S of the group, Bill is the winner and is presented with the trophy, he shakes hands with the other bowler. C/U of everyone congratulating him.

Can’t believe they didn’t mention Pa Flood
The game might be spelt bowling but is pronounced as bowelling (as in your intestines). I can remember many Sunday journeys down to West Cork being interrupted by the stewards of a bowling match.
This game might... be the worst game ever created. It's a dumb game.

I’d love to see the first time this took place. Alcohol had to be invoked. “Hold me beer and watch this” dude throws a sphere down a road and then the other guy. “That’s good, now watch next do it better”
