At 10:25 GFD was toned out for a reported still alarm at 2441 Central Ave, 137 being first on scene advised of light smoke showing. The crew from Engine 12 made entry and knocked the fire down quickly. The resident and her small child made it out safely, crews remained on scene for about 30 minutes cleaning up. Great job by GFD 3rd turn
Classic example of a quick attack with a rapid knock down. Good job, fellas! Keep safe out there!
Driver/Operator in Texas.
The youtube batallion chiefs can say what they want. But the guys of GFD kick some serious ass.
Here, here, buy this man a beer! They sure do a hell of a job, the way that smoke was pushing I thought that place was going to be a loss.
yeah yesterday we had a fully involed abandon house fire me and a friend of mine was first on scene one of our trucks was in the town next to use helping them with a 40 acre plus grass fire and we had a truck in town but the only person that could drive it was at work 8 miles away so needless to say me and my friend(we are both 14) grabed a garden house and started cooling the houses next to the burning house. Great job on this fire keep up the good job
Not every day do you get a hydrant 30' from the scene. Everyone seemed to keep their cool and no one was running in circles. Good job guys.
First, the guy venting the back is the driver. Second, all these people complaing about him not having a pack on, who cares I eat more smoke when I cook on my BBQ. Maybe the operaters are not required to wear ppe. NFPA are guidelines not requirments and if they are then we all better throw out our SOGS. Every department is different and if it works without injury then I don't see a problem. Not everyone has the luxury of a 4 or 5 man crew. I don't recall ever seeing a fire go 100% by the book.
Same here, tone them out as a structure fire. I was just kind of shocked that someone would argue something so stupid.
Good video. They got the job done. It was a brick house, and well constructed - I noticed a firewall (a decent one), too. So not much risk to the other houses. And, when the driver opened the backdoor, he may have already understood from the crew, that the fire was under control, in which case he did a good job.
The brick is a veneer.
great video!
@43firerescue No helmet, no gloves, no fire gear and standing in the doorway of a burning building. Not to mention leaving the truck unattended. You don't need to be a Chief to spot the errors.
They can't afford the extra people. Some engine crews are officer, driver, and one.
Dude you have to be smoking some great shit, the definition of a structure is something (as a building) that is constructed per websters. House falls under that definition. I have to know, what do you consider a house if it's not a building? My God, you are something else.I have dealt with stupidity, but this has to be in the top 5
One thing I will say is my boys are not afraid to go in a burning building like a lot of videos I see on this channel
@43firerescue BTW, this isn't anything I came up with myself, it's stuff smart old smoke eaters taught me. I'm STILL learning.
@43firerescue No, he probably wasn't going to die from any injury on a fire that size. But the fact is he could be injured, even severely, and that would require additional resources to take care of him. Not to mention lost work days, pain and suffering. Not the worst mistakes ever made, but something to learn from. Like I said, if he had at least a helmet and gloves, and used a pike pole for a little distance he'd be good. Guys have been killed on dumpster fires, don't get complacent.
Whats the difference, a dwelling is a structure.
Good Job Guys. Way to kill the flaming beast. From a fellow FF. GBU all !!!!!
Gary, Indiana?
@jacobstern14048 Because the common couch potato and or armchair qb has nothing better to do than critique everyone but themselves. I agree 100% with you and feel the fd did a fine job. Some people have nothing better to do other than bad mouth other departments. It's easy to hide behind a computer screen
This fire was a one room job, the chauffer or whatever he is at the front door isnt gonna get hurt. Why does every person on youtube or FF forums feel the need to nit pick every dept. apart? You see guys in Detroit and D.C. up on roofs with no air pack and noone has the balls to say anything to them. why because theyre the one gettin it done.
Firewacker does exactly what his name implies, he whacks it to a fire, even if it is not a building but is a house, where the previously said is possible on whatever planet he is from lmao. good vid ed. bout damn time we have something to watch again lol
the batallion chief (it looks like) i think shouldnt have gone without any gear glad he didnt get hurt but if the fire did something crazy when he opened that door or broke in the window he wouldnt have had a chance
@mabas21 Stupid is stupid no matter who does it. If you don't like people pointing out the stupid things that go on in your videos then don't post them or edit the bad parts out. It would only take the driver a few seconds to put on a helmet and gloves, grab a pike pole and he'd be golden. If your brother firefighters point out obvious blunders maybe Gary should learn from it. When guys from our own Dept. do stupid things we call them on it. Because that can cause us all to be in danger.
Nice video Ed, glad to see some action again, I missed it...
@43firerescue BTW, what do you think would happen to the driver when one of the interior firefighters goes to the 2nd floor and starts busting out windows to ventilate? What's going to protect him from a shower of broken glass?
these are great training videos, i dont think these guys are nitpicking, hopefully the things they are pointing out they get right themselves when they go to structure fires. we can all learn alot from other peoples mistakes.
Is PPE not required back east?
@kurnellampdwarf Yes it is
great video
why are you guys so concerned with who has turn out gear on or not? are you jealous because you must wear it? dont worry about who has bunker gear on or not maybe he feels he doesnt need it. doesnt mean he cant help out
My friend Xavier Willam's Died in a fire in a aparment on 2-26-10! R.I.P
Nice work, so different from many other fire videos I've seen on youtube (not this channel), where the firefighters seem to stand back and watch the place burn to the ground, and then spray some water on it whilst it spreads to the other buildings. It seems Gary firefighters know what they're doing.
Firefighters stand back "defensive" where situation dictates to stay defensive. Don't judge the world true Google and/or UA-cam videos only. Maybe is something that you haven't seen so far. Being "Aggressive" firefighter is where fire is in very initial "incipient" stage. I can drill down in which situations you can be "aggressive" and which not, but I also haven't seen them all. One of the biggest mistakes those firefighters do in this video are:
1. Opening doors/entries without charged lines. Fire needs just a seconds to "boost" to "uncontrollable". Introducing air to structure, while you waiting for "charge" - its a no,no.
2. No team work. "Nozzle man" enters the structure, while his partner is still outside donning gear. There is a golden rule in firefighting business. You stay close to your partner, you not leave him behind. Priority is your partner. In our FD is a golden rule how far you can be from your partner - "If you cannot kiss my A$$ from behind - you are too far".
@jchican0 I did not hear of one, but the fire did start in the kitchen. May have been a bad cook
not exactly by the book but they kept it under control lol
thats what really matters
On the other hand, it makes you and others think about fire safety a little bit more.
Are you serious? A house is a building..... What planet are you from?
Don’t stand in front of a window your breaking open, especially without gear, otherwise good attack
and CFD!!!
More people on the scene without bunker gear than there are with it.
@mabas21 I dont wear my scott pack unless im going into a building just saying from a firefighters view
LMAO, missed three on the west side yesterday and early this morning. PISSES ME OFF!!! 27th and Calhoun a trailer, 7th and Matthews a house, and 900 Ralston a 25x45 2 story frame. NOT COOL
@43firerescue Yes, I am a firefighter. With almost 30 years of experience. I'm not going to claim everything my fellow firefighters or myself have done is perfect, we have made mistakes. But this video clearly shows some basic safety issues that the driver should not repeat. I'm not going to question whether you're a firefighter or not, but you clearly are immature.
The guy with the a doing ventilation in the back is cruising for a bruising with no PPE. Otherwise good job.
knocing the windows out gives the fire oxygen to burn and spread faster.
if your taking a window take the whole thing, nice job with the ppv fan.
wwho is that guy with the ax he has no ppe on at all thats not good at a fire
Really? Waiting until you're in front of the fire building to donn your mask and then standing IN the smoke to do it? And about those pesky "things" hanging down in the way... ya, the "waist belt" for the B/A! They tend to work best if actually fastened (IF they'll even fit around you!) And the joker running around with NO PPE's and the axe... either get fully suited up and work safely or stay back and do whatever it is that you might actually do! I mean. come on guys! Good Luck GFD!!!
@smoothbore2004 haha sorry I couldnt tell, but is this sarcastic, or is he really a radio repair guy?
There is a thing called constructive criticism, I think you should learn its finer techniques...
@mabas21 Indeed, the fire service isn't what it used to be, you get alot of phonies that get their rocks off in training seminars and reading text books. Granted im not saying dont train, but these guys who get 1 barn fire a year will get online and bad mouth everyone out there if they do something that's not strictly "by the book". That is the reason I cancelled each and every FF forum membership I had.
@Blakecan1 big deal whos to say he could get it buckled
@crapper1 typical from a youtube chief
Don’t worry, all UA-cam fire chiefs all went under the JB 9170 whatever his stupid ass name is fire academy. Although they’ve never gone inside any fire, they are brilliant tacticians from the armchair
When a room is burning, it creates a high pressure area. When you open the front door, it releases that smoke and heat into your face. That's when you have to be thinking about cross ventilation. Before those guys went in, the back door should have been opened to help release the heat and pressure away from the entering fire fighters. You could see how much pressure was at the back door. The wind was also against the front which would help. With the back door closed, the only place all that heat could go is upstairs where the air pressure was lower. That's not a Good thing!
why would they give it more air to feed on.... These guys need to be more trained
