The cheapest I've flown was on a Ryanair flight from Sofia to Pisa - 10 euro for a two-way ticket. That's actually cheaper than a taxi ride from my home in Sofia to the airport.
@darklordster This isn't as if you had to eat on board though. Unless you have some serious eating disorder you can just stop eating for 2 hours and either eat before embarking or after landing. It's always what I have done and you can really cut down the price significantly. It really came in handy for going to the Hellfest ngl
@darklordster Most low-coster flights are bellow 3 hours, you can manage your hunger. You can also bring something aboard with you from duty-free shops if you think you'll be hungry / thirsty :)
@darklordster take an empty bottle with you and fill it in the bathroom of the airport. Buy something at the supermarket the day before or stop at the bakery before you go to the airport. It will be much cheaper and much tastier.
One time my friend bought a ticket for 3 pounds.
darklordster sofia to pisa is like a 2 hour flight, I’m sure you can not eat for 2 hours you fat fuck
I bought some fries and a coke at my RyanAir flight, only to realize that this was more expensive than the flight it self
Thats how ryanair work

Huh? Here an ticket would be at-least 300 dollars.
Wow I rather just starve and eat when I land

All of these time saving measures which cut down on comfort also aren't such a bad thing to lose on European flights as they're usually not going far, so the slightly higher amount of discomfort is over so quickly
3 hours is probably a normal flight time. Anything less and I would take a train anyways. 3 hours on Ryanair is really uncomfortable, but for the price it’s basically impossible to complain lol
Next: Ryanair charges each passenger for the steps and if they don't pay, they have to climb on for boarding and jump off the plane after arrival.
I like this feature from NG with stairs
Then Ryanair doesn't really make stops, they just slow down near the ground and ask you to tuck and roll. Boarding is done by sky hook.

*Here is a budget airline joke of Ryanair!*
Michael O’Leary, Chief Executive of Ryanair after arriving in a hotel in Manchester went to the bar and asked for a pint of Guinness.
The barman said, "That will be £1 please, Mr. O’Leary."
Taken aback, O'Leary replied, "That's very cheap," and handed over his money.
"We do try to stay ahead of the competition", said the barman. "We have the cheapest beer in England".
"That is remarkable value", Michael comments.
"I see you don't have a glass, you'll need one of ours. That will be £3 please."
O'Leary scowled, but paid up. He took his drink and walked towards a seat.
"Ah, you want to sit down?" said the barman. "That'll be an extra £2. If you'd pre-booked it would have cost £1."
O'Leary swore to himself, but paid up.
"I see you've brought your laptop" added the barman. "That wasn't pre-booked either, that's another £3."
O'Leary was so incensed and his face was red with rage.
"I've had enough! I insist on speaking to a manager!"
"Here is his e-mail address, or if you wish, you can contact him between 9.00 am and 9.01am every morning, Monday to Tuesday. Calls are free, unless answered, then there is a charge of only £1 per second".
"I will never use this bar again".
"OK but do remember, we are the only hotel in England selling pints for £1."

That feeling when the outbound travel covid test costs 10x more than the flight itself.
Imagine that feeling when they make tests not free anymore and you choose not to be vaccinated. Thereby making flying way to expensive. And therefore making it almost impossible.

@@mcbrat3972 Why did you take it tho. I haven't and I'm 24. My best friend also hasn't. To this day I only had to test myself when I went to Italy. I'm not planning on taking it anytime soon.

Michael O'Leary, the CEO of Ryanair, walks into a pub.
Then he says to the bartender "Can I have a pint of beer?"
The bartender says "Certainly, that'll be €0.50"
He responds with "50 cents? That's wonderfully cheap!"
But then the bartender tells him "And it'll be €1 for the glass, €3 if you want to sit down, €7 if you stand up, €15 to use the loo... "
But if you have your own cup and are taking it away, it's still €0.50, so the savvy drinker still gets their bargain ;)

When taxi trips to the airport cost more then the actual flight...
I went from Charleroi (Belgium) to Timisoara (Romania) and back during the last 7 days, paid 3 euros each way. The bus ticket from Charleroi city to the airport cost 6 euros each way. Incredible.

4 things to add for Ryanair 1) they also save costs by not offering their pilots and cabin crew a cab fee or hotel if they need to spend the night somewhere. 2) They charge you insane prices for your luggage 3) They fuel the exact legal minimum of fuel, while others tend to fuel a bit more. This gives them landing priority in some circumstances. 4) Their head offices are in Ireland, which gives them a big tax advantage.
I work at ryanair and that's not true, they will pay for our overnights but we do not have layovers. The only time we do stay abroad is for Planned overnights at other bases or emergencies.
And fueling happens at the pilots discrepancy, we're a very safe airline
For most aviation authorities, including EASA airlines restricting pilots' ability to put as much fuel in a plane as needed is actually illegal

I flew from Keflavík, Iceland to Tenerife Sur and back on a two week vacation this summer with Primera Air. There wasn't any food on the plane on the way back and two days later it went bankrupt.
There was also a 90 minute delay because the group I was traveling with hadn't been registered on the flight because of the airline's own travel agency's failure to do so.

I just had my first flight with RyanAir (which went all well and good) and was amazed that they literally have 15 minutes between passengers to leave the plane and passengers for next flight to board the plane. Timing is just... incredible. The first thing I noticed was about the pockets on the seats and I tought to myself: "My God, it's so clever!" Because you either give away all your trash to flight attendant ('cause you just don't have anywhere to put it) or leave it in the seat, and it's much easier to pick up. Besides the way they deal with luggage is very flexible and convinient. Of course you have to pay for it, but if you go for 5-6 days you really don't need that 20 kg bag, which is "included" with your ticket for regular air lines.
Ryanair's policy is that a plane should land, board and leave in 35 minutes. Bags that were in the hold must be delivered in less than 15 minutes.
So what’s the max luggage weight that’s allowed without extra charges?
@@samuelbobson5365, I don't think it's the weight that counts but the size. It has to fit under the seat. Think a school type backpack or a gym bag. I believe there was a time when a 10 kg small suitcase that fits into a cabin overhead locker was free of charge but now it's not.

i've only ever flown ryanair and wizzair and until now i didn't realize they were 'budget'. pretty much the only airlines people i know fly. they're cheap, convenient, fly very specific routes between small airports (even if the hours can be ungodly) and i have no complaints other than the very little leg room 😭
and, of course, i can only imagine how badly they treat their workers. but i never would have left my country without their ridiculous prices
ryanair will have you praying the wheels don’t break off during landings
*talking about the landings and pilots, not the actual Boeing 737s they use*
Steven Sutter it’s worth the cheap price
Steven Sutter it’s kinda funny that Ryanair has a reputation of breaking a lot, even though there hasn’t been a single passenger fatality, and only one aircraft has been written off and that too because of a major bird strike accident.
True tho.
Considering they have one of the newest fleets in the industry I’m having a hard time believing that is a fact
Randy Marsh i think he’s referring to the rough landings as opposed to the quality of the jets themselves
Also airlines like Ryanair have heavy additional fees. The onboard food is expensive, if your bag is over the weight limit you have a CRAZY fee you have to pay, same if your carry on bag is too big, you will have to pay a lot. They charge you for paying with a card, they charge you if you didn't print out your own boarding pass, you are charged if you didn't check-in online.
Additionally, the plane cabin is hardly ever clean, there's no inflight entertainment, the cabin has adverts everywhere, there's not even a proper safety card, it's printed onto the seat in front of you. Also, they pack you in like sardines.
That's why it's a budget airline. Airplanes are becoming more like flying bus rides and 99% of people don't want to cash in a lottery ticket to get into a flying limo.
But you save £30+ it's worth it IMO and I think you're exaggerating anyway. The flight is only 2-3hrs anyway if flying in Europe.
Onboard food is optional, I haven't had a bag weighed in the last 5 years (3 flights a year), printing your own boarding pass and checking in online/via the app is easy.....the plane is always clean - who needs entertainment on a short haul flight?....they pack you like sardines??? really? I went to Oslo for £10 - no complaints here :)
Then don't fly budget airlines! :) travel light!
I know which is why you must be very familiarised with all their charging rules. However many times even if I add a luggage and buy on board, the total fare still tops out to less than that of a traditional carrier. However not all of the time. I have paid a rip off fare for easyJet, and seen fares for traditional carriers cheaper than its low-cost rivalries.
I think there is another reason: They charge a lot for checked in luggage. Not many passengers want to pay that for short flights. So they can use that space in the belly of the aircraft for cargo to make even more money through that.
Budget airlines don't do cargo. It takes too long.
Transavia was not created by air France. Transavia started as a holiday charter airline in the Netherlands in 1965.joined the KLM group. In 2004 KLM and air France joined and became the biggest group in Europe. Air France started to use The Dutch Transavia airline for holiday flights out of France
It’s definitely not a budget airline in the vein of Ryanair and such.
ofc In the netherlands your name is van dijk
@@Crises79 It is cheap tho, went to Paris in 2019 and flights were like 60-70 euros in total, pretty good considering other airlines were around high hundreds

How unoriginal lol, joke ripped off from a comedy video about Spirit Airlines, but... I gotta say nice
When my ex lived in London, I could visit her frequently because a ticket cost me like 10€. Especially on short flights, there's little to no reason to use a regular flight - even more so when an airport has quick transportation to the main cities. Stanstead has a train that frequently goes to London, and even with the additional cost, it's a fraction of what it would've cost to land anywhere else. If I have to wait ~30 mins more to reach my destination with a slightly longer method, but can visit twice as often, it's a no-brainer.
I've also flown with Ryanair at least 30+ times, and only ever had 1 cancelled flight. The total cost, if I want something to eat, pay for extended travelling *and* buy stuff at the airport, is maybe 2/3 of the non-budget flights. But if you're not dumb with your money, the total is generally 25-66% cheaper.
In addition to all this, all three of my school trips I went on when I was younger was a lot more exotic because the school could afford it.

I wish you would've gone more in depth about Southwest. Not only are they a low cost carrier, but the 4th largest airline in the world (Fleet size and passengers). They are in their own league compared to EasyJet, RyanAir and jetstar.
As someone who files low cost rather often, I can add some more ways the low-cost airlines use to make money:
1. Seat selection. Ryanair and Wizz offer seat selection at a price. When you purchase a ticket, you are assigned a random seat from the lowest tier (of course its price is added to the ticket price). If you want a window seat - you need to pay more. If you need additional leg space - even more, etc.
2. Mentioning leg space - they try to cramp in a few additional rows of seats by reducing the space between the rows. So people like me - taller, with longer legs, find this rather uncomfortable.
3. Luggage - unlike regular airlines that include one or two pieces of luggage in the ticket, low cost airlines only include one piece of carry luggage like a purse or a laptop bag. Anything beyond this has to be paid for. This is actually rather convenient, as basically you pay only for what you use and me and my wife have been on a number of trips with only hand luggage.
I remember a time when Ryanair had some completely FREE flights - they even paid the flight fees and taxes! If they could make enough on the upgrades to cover the flight costs they were happy.
Just compare flying with grocery shopping. If you went into a store to buy a loaf of bread and they wanted you to pay for a trolley-load, you wouldn't shop there.
They just did that for pr stunt. Also Ryanair only manage to do stuff like that. Because they let other flipping the bill. Its a reason way Norway doesn't let Ryanair sett up shop there.
One of the best budget airlines I've ever flown with was Mango airlines in South Africa. Very cheap flight (from Capetown to Johannesburg), friendly staff and *a lot of* leg room!

Just arrived from Dublin ireland, 4 weeks ago i was in lisboa. I can not say anything negative about them, not for that price. I travel from Manchester to Dublin for £20 return about 4 times a year, and every flight is full. Ryanair goes back and forth between these two cities 5 times a day. That's a lot of passengers, and a lot of money, especially since I'd say a third of the passengers buy their ticket within a week of travelling, when prices are at least 5 times higher. The hidden and extra fees for Ryanair can be crazy though!!
£20? :O
Sam tyler €11 return for me.

Robert Cremin I never knew I have Hairy balls
Robert Cremin some old guy was putting his seat down whilst i was sleeping on the table thing and i was crushed
Same here. What about the legs of the poor person b r hind you?
Well, at least on WestJet, they only recline like 1-2 inches, sooooooo.....
People who recline their seats on airplanes are disrespectful heathens
So the age of the plane is also due to another fact:
The lifespan of an airplane is usually determined by the frequency of pressurization and depressurization of the cabin. Big carriers fly a large long haul fleet, which consists of planes that are less frequently pressurized due to the longer hauls the serve. This increases the lifespan of the large planes. Budget carriers often only fly locally or continental. The smaller palnes are pressurized far more often, wich reduces the lifespan and calls for new orders and purchases more frequently. This is also why you regularly find 747s or a340s, that have been flying for 15 years or more, you barely ever find a 737, that has been going for this amount of time
Many 737 are older than 15. I think you meant 25 years
its called flight cycles.

quite well documented with a few misakes, like, airbridges sometimes are mandatory (for example in Madrid we almost always have one), but they make boarding and disembarking twice as slow, typically a ryanair turnaround is 25 minutes (believe me it's sooo hard to comply with, lucky us, we're often early so we have more time, or if we lose a few minutes it should be recovered during the flight), but with an airbridge it goes to 35 minutes (in theory, in practice it's almost 45), also flight attendants don't go to the gate, check in and boarding agent is someone else's job (at least in ryanair), often made from another company (swissport, LESMA, aviapartner), sometimes they're direct ryanair employees and have a flight attendant uniform but that's just the uniform. Also, I saying they're targetting tourists is wrong, tourists often travel with luggages or need more than just the simple ticket anyways, sometimes it's cheaper to fly with traditionnal airlines, yes a lot of routes are made for tourists, but IMO where ryanair thrives is with destinations that see people going from home to work/studies (loads of businessmen, but also students or people working in another country, or commuting to see family/girlfriend etc), that's due to the world being very open and people travelling a lot for more than leisure
Also, no mention on fuel, no huge savings to be made at first sight but in ryanair, fuel is 2/3rd of the costs if I'm not mistaken, and ryanair has procedures to save sometimes as little as 10kg of fuel per flight (I mean for one procedure, like for example to use the APU less, or turn off an engine after landing, or carrying the bare minimum of fuel to be lighter), but multiply it by the number of flights a year and it becomes millions
Comments that havent aged well "that's due to the world being very open and people travelling a lot for more than leisure" haha
@@LordofChaos595 so clever
Carry the bare mininum of fuel? Damn thats scary !!
@@fabrizioaprile2111 carrying the minimum required amount of fuel isn't unsafe at all, it's calculated thoroughly with plenty of safety margins, you regularly land with at least enough to fly at least an hour, when you think you might need more (weather etc) you can take more and nobody will blame you for it :)
Why would an airbridge be slower? Isn't it far more direct then shuttling passengers out with a bus?
One reason why budget airlines in Europe are cheaper than in North America is that Europe has High-speed rail.
Nobody will take a flight from London to Paris that costs significantly more than Eurostar for instance.
Jesus Gonzalez thats not the sole reason. If airlines were able to sell chesper flights in the US, they would.
London is on an island
Probably the small distances between cities/countries. The US is huge.
there is a railroad connection to london from europe. google it.
The population density of the United States and Europe are vastly different. The US has lots of open land and its major cities are spread further apart than Europe's. Because of this, budget airlines like Southwest and jetBlue are forced to fly longer routes which cost more money than flying in Europe. However, this does have consequences that benefit the travelers. Since routes in the United States are longer than those in Europe, travelers are more likely to value luxury and amenities when it comes deciding which airline to fly. So, airlines like Southwest offer more amenities such as free WiFi and checked baggage to offset the higher wages that it costs to fly the longer routes in the United States.
"Trevioso" hit me right in the hearth lmao, that's Treviso
Have you managed to repair your fireplace yet?

As an English person who lives near Gatwick this was super relatable and interesting, I really like Budget Airlines as I think they fly really efficiently and I think I prefer them to normal airlines. I don’t like they way they tend to have more delays and sometimes don’t have reserved seating though. I usually fly with EasyJet and it’s genuinely a pretty nice experience, aside from last year where we were flew in an A319 and I literally didn’t fit in my seat. I also really like the way the food works, I much prefer buying my own food with a choice of what I want rather than flying with BA or something that gives me cold bangers and mash and a small choice of drinks.
Honestly, getting from Heathrow to the heart of London would take longer than it would from Gatwick.
This is so true. I regularly fly down from Glasgow and coming in and out of Luton and Stansted is just as convenient as Gatwick (more so while there's ongoing industrial action than means the express is barely running) and considerably more so than Heathrow.
Hombre De Bano Yes but it's easier to connect from Heathrow to the city because it's on the Piccadilly Line straight into the city and your ticket will work. Plus, Gatwick trains are either completely unreliable or extremely expensive. Finally, Crossrail is coming soon, so... Heathrow is much easier to travel from
Am I missing something here? Assuming car travel, and that the heart of London is Piccadilly (or anywhere within Zone 1), I've required almost twice as long to travel between London and Gatwick/Luton etc compared to London-Heathrow, even with traffic. Public transport is also more varied and convenient as mentioned, so Heathrow is undoubtedly first choice personally.
The Caterpillar King gatwick has surprisingly fast train connection to London Bridge.
I've flown out of Gatwick and most of the time into Heathrow. I find the Heathrow Express much more conviennent than the transport to Gatwick.
I think that the next big gamble in the world of airlines is going to be about cheap overseas travel, like Europe to America etc.
Greg Lyris norwegian flies from oslo to NYC for 40 - 50 euros which is extremely cheap
Ayy thats such bullshit i just checked you're lying

Delta is running a overpacked luxury cruse. Ryanair is running a bus with wings on it.

It's interesting to see how budget airlines have grown in recent years. Take southwest, they now fly to many US popular airports like SFO, LAX, FLL. It just goes to show the demand for cheap airfare these days that are helping them expand into a cheap but reputable airline.
FLL is considered a budget airport (American doesn't fly there and is Spirit's main office). You maybe thinking about MIA...
Southwest is now in O'hare albeit with not many flights. However, I've flown in and out of LAX on SW over a decade ago and at least half a decade to SFO but I'm sure it was available before then too.
Fascinating, especially after watching your 2017 video on flight scheduling, which talks extensively about hubs. Now I see why Southwest is so delay-prone; their planes are scheduled to depart very soon after they arrive compared to full service airlines.
Extremely good explanation. Quick, to the point, concise, everything. You're like the next CGP Grey. More of these and you'll hit the million subs mark in no time!
Only difference is that Wendover Productions talks SO SLOW.
Southwest is the best airline, hands down. Affordable, great customer service, no fees for bags/changing tickets/cancelling, has tons of non stop flights, and goes to so many airports.
We only have United in our town

Eurowings and Transavia weren't "created" by Lufthansa and Air France. They joined an airline group (Eurowings: Lufthansa Group, Transavia: Air France-KLM Group).
Ibirdball That's correct! Finnaly someone who understands it. Transavia joined KLM and when KLM joined Air France, Transavia becomes a Dutch-French airline.

JetBlue is fucking amazing. I still remember my flight 10 years ago cause holy fuck I had so much legroom and a seat TV for a cheap airline.
Honestly, I'm surprised people consider Jet Blue a budget airline. They are more expensive, and very premium for a short haul carrier. Definitely not in the same category as the other airlines mentioned here.
@@sbeve6559 short haul carrier??
jetBlue is not Low Cost LOL. Frontier, Spirit, Allegiant but not jetBlue
Yea JetBlue over the years has become more of a mainline airline, they’ve branched out going to all the major airports and have different planes, over a few years they will become probably as prevalent as other major us carriers
I think Qantas was smart with their way of making their budget airline. The airline I’m talking about is Qantaslink. He goes to places in Australia that are less populated then the other cities in aus. Every Qantaslink plane I’ve seen have been dash 8’s
The B717 is better
You haven't mentioned who is the most affected by these low cost practices: the workers. Pilots have to pay for their own uniform and learning materials, ground staff is underpaid and overworked, and here in Spain there has been legal issues since Ryanair was using Ireland's work policies (since they're based there) instead of the Spanish ones.
It is because of this that I thank the heavens for having Vueling here. Sure their flight prices might be a little bit higher but they are not even close to the high-cost airlines, they have better customer service, they have a good realtion with their workers (I myself am employed as a flight dispatcher with them and so far why it's not the greatest salary they've treaten me quite well, and as a student that's all I can ask for now) and also has more benefits than flying with Ryanair.
Underpaid generally means that you are not adequately paid for the services you are providing. It doesn’t always mean you are getting paid under minimum wage.
@Xaxa xa Then always show ppl from Poland and make it for less.
Norwegian, Flybondi and KLM are now in my country. People complain about the same thing, they say the pilots are under-educated, regarding the national standars for regular airlines, that flying too much puts stress to the plane thus making it insecure, with less fuel, etc.
@Xaxa xa Paying a pilot minimum wage is an awful, awful idea.
that's why its important to unionize
JetBlue, EasyJet, and Norwegian Air Shuttle are the only budget airlines that I would ride.
Anselmo Chiong Southwest is fine, the seating policy is horrible though.
JetBlue is starting to come out of that budget phase, and Norwegian is great (when they do fly)
WestJet in Canada is pretty good
WizzAir is freakin' good
Never had the slightest problem with Ryanair and have flown Finland-Germany dozens of times. At cheapest for 19 euros. Cost me twice that to get to the airport on public transportation X-D
It can cost €1 to get to England from Dublin sometimes
Ryanair the best thing that ever happened to airlines. Plus its simple it gets you from A to B if you don't like it then go somewhere else. I am using them for 20 years and am very happy with them.

Easyjet cabin crew earn good money after their first year. In the UK they are among the best paid. The worst paid on todays contracts are British Airways cabin crew......go figure. Junior cabin crew at easyJet earn circa £25,000 with senior crew up to £34,000.
In France easyJet staff make actually more than most airlines :')
Colin Mante Ryanair pilots don’t make that much less than a normal airline. I know someone who has been working for Ryanair for 13 years and he is a Line Training Captain (Basically cant get any more experience in the company than that) he gets paid £165,000 a year and British Airways Line training Captains get paid £170,000 so not that big of a difference
Globe guys2 - you're talking about monthly salary, right? Right?..
thats because they are new to there jobs. Most end up leaving the company and go somewhere else
A few months ago there was a Ryanair flight from Athens Greece to Thessaloniki, instead, the plane kept flying over Thessaloniki and ended up in Romania without telling the passengers. Imagine having a flight somewhere you wanted to and suddenly you place your foot to an other country
are you talking about Ryanair Flight 4978? my guy that was due to a threat of a bomb on board to arrest 2 passengers
Few more facts to add to Ryanair, their turn-around is 25minutes.
The reason why they don't use jetways (a bridge to embark and disembark) is not only cost, but time efficency. This way they can start boarding to buses before the aircraft lands, which reduces the time their aircrafts are on land, which increases the amount of flights they can fit per day, per aircraft, which again means more profit.
Mandatory online check-in also speeds up the proccess at check-in, since it goes down to mostly just bag drop and that reduces the amount of staff needed at check-in counter.
Their priority and non-priority boarding also eliminates a problem with too many cabin bags at gate, so they don't risk delaying a flight.
To put it simply, non-priority can only have an under the seat item. And they only sell maximum 100 priority boarding per flight to fit all the cabin bags, which means they don't have to worry about capacity with the overhead lockers and hence the reason why non-priority have to pay a fee at gate, if they show up with a cabin bag and their bag will be checked into the hold. So again, another way to minimize the chance of delay + some extra profit for them. (Even EasyJet is starting to be this strict with allowing only SpeedyBoarding customers to have cabin bags on board and many other european airlines have similiar processes)
KLM bought transavia actually. Even before Air France and KLM merged. But until a few years ago transavia was still only in hands of KLM. Later a new airline emerged. Transavia France, which is owned by Air France for 60% and 40% by Transavia Holland.
And Transavia is old, 1966.
***** Not really low budget. More like te regional department, like KLM cityhopper or other airlines 'express' divisions.
Yeah i fly transavia often and is not a "budget budget" airline. You have enough space and the personal is always well trained.
Wait... So how come I still see KLM aircraft at LAX?
KLM and AF merged, but they still exist as separate airlines. AF has the majority of the shares.

It's a bit late to answer but no, its not magic, it's the EU.
Basically, before 2000 something, EU air companies were the same as the US. Extremely expensive, protected by their government.
In 2000something, EU court ruled that each "state owned airplane company" had the same rights. This means that suddenly, all EU countries' airplane companies were competing against each other.
Sudden competition makes travelling cheaper. On top of that,
One of such companies was Ryanair which was already quite cheap, which deepened this effect.
You sir sure have improved a lot in 5 years! It's incredible to see how much you've progressed. :)
The "problem" with budget airlines is that they are only budget if you only take hand luggage. As soon as you start adding bags, the price rises fast. The services is usually terrrible on Ryanair as well, long live Emirates!

Cheap train travel in europe? Never heard of that xD I'm always traveling by coach or plane, can't afford a freaking train journey...
Natha Lie trains are cheap almost everywhere except in the UK, most times a flight is the same price of a train ticket, e.g London-Glasgow’s-London.
Even renting a car is cheap in most places (10 euros per day for the smallest cars), especially if you travel only toll-free roads. Or you can take cheap and quick coach in smaller countries. It’s just a small continent.
Some additions to the video:
1, The young fleet is more efficient not only because the more modern engines but also low maintenance cost and maintenance time, as older planes are needed to be serviced and checked more.
2, Big low-cost carriers usually sell the purchased aircrafts right after they buy it at a profit, then lease it back from the buyer company so they can actually make cash this way.
Your #2 is confounding me as I try & determine how that would work. Is it due to the fact that they buy in bulk so they get the plane much cheaper too the point where they could sell it at an even lower price point than if the buyer were to just go & buy a new plane directly from the manufacturer?
@@dustinspeicher3390 Exactly. If the airline has a huge order, the bulk price is so much cheaper that they can sell it at a multi-million profit to their future leasors, increasing their liquidity and cash.
Awesome video. I have travelled with both expensive traditional airlines and budget airlies and I can hardly see the difference on short flights. Paying only €10 to fly from, for example, Dublin to London is just excellent. That's usually what I pay for taxi, which only drives a few kilometers.
"Budget Airlines were first successful in Europe."
Southwest Airlines: Am I a joke to you?
@G S W They were the first in the world to use the concept, that was my only point, and they've made a lot of money doing it. I've never flown Southwest, so I have no opinions on the quality of the company.
John Swanson This may be an unpopular opinion, but I actually prefer Southwest to United. It’s nice that you get to choose your seat and no one is ever late for that reason. The actual comfort of the flight is the same.
Southwest (and JetBlue) may be budget airlines, but they act so differently from the nickel-and-dime airlines that it's not really fair to lump them in the same category. Southwest and JetBlue both include a carry-on, snacks, and a beverage in the price of your ticket. Southwest is the only US airline that still offers two checked bags at no extra cost on domestic flights and JetBlue is the only US airline that has free in-flight WiFi (which is frankly better than what you pay for on other airlines; you can stream HD video on JetBlue's WiFi).
As a result, Southwest and JetBlue have really good brand image and public goodwill in the US, while Spirit and Frontier end up as the butt of jokes and complaints (which I understand happens also to RyanAir and EasyJet in Europe). I agree, I'd sooner take Southwest or JetBlue than United or American _even if the price points were the same_ (and they're not) because they just treat you better.
Southwest is vastly different to Ryanair. Ryanair wanted to charge people for the toilet at one point. Southwest tickets still cost several hundred dollars. Ryanair you can find tickets for 10 Euros.
@@Arkiasis And sometimes, the big legacy carriers can STILL match Southwest on prices. I booked a 2-way ticket from Texas to Florida and told the search engine to pick ANY airline. Southwest was the THIRD cheapest. Spirit and American were cheaper! I seriously think all the hubbub about Southwest being the "best choice" is from their cult... (excuse me!) customers who wouldn't dare even think about giving any other airline a CHANCE. And I did get bashed big time by one who snobbishly told me something like "You don't even know basic math! Southwest is the only good choice!" Um, then explain all the other carriers that haven't gone under...

I remember in 2016 a few months after the Brussels bombings, my friend and I were able to purchase tickets from Copenhagen to Brussels for around 7 euro (Which included a return trip as well) and of course, it was Ryanair. It is crazy how flying around 800 kilometers was that cheap, when just sitting in a taxi in Denmark is sometimes more expensive.
Ryanair and Easy Jet are truly cheap and efficient. But the employees are squeezed like lemons and badly paid.
Ryanair captains actually often earn more than captains in major airlines
If that's true, I'd assume that's because they work longer hours as well.
You are wrong. Wages are the only costs which Ryanair and EasyJet can't cut. They wouldn't be able to attract workers if they offered lower wages then their competitors. Just as they wouldn't be able to attract customers if they offered higher prices than their competitors.
BigMathis no YOU are wrong. They do give smaller salaries and worse working conditions. Ryanair more or less only hires newly educated pilots who got debt from their education worth approx 100.000euro. Ryanair offers them a job and they are more or less forced to take it unless they get a job else where.
The cabin crew are usually from low paid contries like Poland and such, whereas Ryanair can get away with poor working conditions and bad salaries thereby undermining the western societies.
+Jens D what I've heard about Ryanair is that captains with experience can get 100,000+ euros a year and their roster is either 5/4 or 4/3 and they get a chance to sleep at their home every night. That's what I heard at least
