- In this video I show my basic home studio setup for when I shoot and record audio for my videos. I spotlight the Fractal Ax8 and how I got my tone in the Hear About It Later guitar Lesson video.
• How To Play Hear About...
Thx Marty getting ready to buy a fractal still a little intimidated imm 55 old school but I'm going to take the plunge
I understand! It’s a bit o RTW helming at first. But they are quite intuitive and when you get going it’s alright! 😎🥂
Holy cow! That’s a little mind blowing for me currently lol!! Way cool, man!!
It does seem like a lot at first, but honestly…. It’s pretty self contained. And you can delve in deeper as you learn!
Thanks Marty 😊
Technology is absolutely amazing now a days. I don't have a fractal.
I use a Headrush pedalboard. It works great for me! I have four tube amps. But I mostly use my Headrush. Thanks for sharing the love my brother 🙏 BTW my theremin came in. It's a blast to play with. I'm going to set it up though my recorder running it through a volume pedal so I can keep it quiet when I'm not using it. Thanks again for all the content you share with us.
It's much appreciated 🙏🙏
Great stuff man
Thank you!!
These things are amazing….I have an AxeFXIII,and it’s mind boggling the things you can do with it….I am still an amp guy,but the Fractal makes routing and recording so easy….Lately I started running my amps into a load box, then into the Fractal for FX and IR’s….Best of Both World’s…..
It is kind boggling! I love my amps too. I need to try that load box method. Sounds really fun!!
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker it’s really a great setup…as good as the Fractal sounds, running a real amp thru a load box into it just adds that extra magic….
Option anxiety said the smelly mystic hippy. Awesome Marty! Thx🍻👍
Totally! Sometimes it’s easy to spend more time tweaking than playing!!
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker eventually I will make the move. But having a blast right now with the vintage pedal collection and the tube heads & 4x12's. But I do love the fractal starship.
Marty, this is a great video, taught me a lot about Fractal. I'm considering picking up one of these for home/practice use. What kind of cabinet or studio monitor are you plugging this into? sorry if I missed it in the video. Thanks
I'm using the POD GO Helix platform it's less pricey and not so space shuttle works fine for me cool stuff Marty 🤘
They are nice systems! I have a friend with one of those and he loves it. Got some nice patches and it’s very portable! 🙌
Wow, the recording sounded like a Marshall 🤔🎸
Thanks! This thing really does have a nice sound. Technology keeps getting better. I prefer tube amps. But for ease of use technology rules. 😎🤟🏻
I have an AXEFX III but I only use the FX, using my cabs and monitors with my amps. Seeing you have so many amps why would you elect to be using the modeling?
I use the 4 cable method live and do not use the amp sims through the heads. Just FX. Some gigs I do I just bring the fractal and run FOH with in ears.
The Ax8 is a little noisy/hissy in the FX loop and 4 cable method. But not bad. Much more reliable and easier than dragging pedals around. Although I love my pedals too!
Wonderful tone and playing Marty, thank you! So many people on UA-cam have no idea how to achieve a pleasant tone which is at least half of the art of playing guitar! Just to confirm, all of your Van Halen videos (over the past year or so) all use the Axe with the Friedman BE100 amp model and the cabinet/speaker/mic sims/irs shown in this video? If so, that is amazing!!! Did you ever use a drive pedal before the amp or another amp model as well (your "Dance the Night Away" video, your EVH Wolfgang vs. Frankenstrat video, your "Mean Street" video, etc.)? Thank you for the information and please keep up the great work!!! Once you find a great load box (Eddie used a Palmer Speaker Emulator PDI-03, see link), we would love to hear your tube amps always in the background of your vidz too!!! ua-cam.com/video/90WBxjsk_go/v-deo.html
I’ve never had the opportunity to try fractal or helix I purchased a kemper stage recently and it doesn’t have a dual amp option either but I’m a plug n play guy anyway. Kool unit the axe8
Thanks! It’s pretty easy to operate. I need stuff like that. But it really sounds nice for what I do. I use it at church and it is super clean. I’ve done some corporate gigs and just ran through in ears and front of house and it was awesome. 4 cable method with a head is nice too and just just using FX. 😎🙌
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker I’ve never tried iem,s before I need to get some , I use a monitor
@@kennethmeeker6369 I use monitors too. In ears are nice but they are pricey if you get your own setup. They can be anyways. You sync your phone or iPad to the board and control your own mix from an app. Wild times man!
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker that’s wild , I’m ancient lol
I’ve seen the ultimate ears , Im not sure what all I’d need , what type of interface is it that works with the inears that connects to the iPad ?
@@kennethmeeker6369 the app just syncs to the board like WiFi. So you have control of the band mix.
The wireless pack you plug your in ears in also connects to the board wirelessly. So it’s all driven from the sound board. A good witless pack and in ears is usually 1000-1800 from what I’ve seen. My bass player has on that was about 1800 all together. He just connects it to the board during sound check.
Monitors are handy. Cheap. Easy. But I’m ears are cool too. Takes a while to get used to it.
what does the preset actually sound like?
Is fractal the most realistic amp modeler available, you think? I saw a video of Trevor Rabin going through tall of his sounds using a fractal.
I don’t have a lot of experience with others, but I really love this thing for high gain and metal patches. It sounds great direct and with in ears too!
I've had a Helix floor and the Quad cortex and AxeFX III. Fractal wins IMHO.
