The GSP&P 1 was built by Richard and James Holmes of San Jose for their private railway near Glenwood. They started the mogul 5 but Richard died. Ken Kukuk, Ken Petersen, and myself Johnny Hoffman, built Shay 7 as a tribute to the Holmes brothers. Ken completed the mogul 5 in LA. The tender being built by Jim Holmes and George Ashley. 13 was built by Ken Kukuk and never made it GSP&P rails. We had wonderful times at Glenwood and Eric Thomson's Redwood Valley over the years. Eric loved our Shay which he called the side winder. The air compressors are from the Lois McDermott patterns from the Overfair Railway. The steam donkey was also the Holmes brothers.
A work of art.
And a labor of love.
