- This video provides the basics for nursing care and management of a patient on a ventilator.
I am Gail L Lupica with over 20 years of experience teaching nursing at the pre-licensure level. I earned a Bachelor Science in Nursing at SUNY Binghamton in 1986, a Master's in Nursing Education in 1992 from New York University (NYU) and a PhD in Adult and Post-Secondary Education in 2011. I have many years of experience in NCLEX-RN test preparation and remediation.

Always adjust you RR as needed first. Just as we would increase our RR as needed, we need to do it for them.

Perhaps this video could be the start of a "first aider's" guide to operating a ventilator and running an ICU caring for #covid19 patients in case med staff are unavailable? Not enough people are taking precautions and overflow is happening. Could help worldwide with the #coronavirus, especially in places where ICUs and trained med staff are nonexistent.

Good vid. Only thing, They say dont increase PEEP unless fio2 is less than 60%. Do they not teach this rule in nursing school?
less than 60%?? You mean more?
I'm confused. In RT school they taught us when you need to increase PEEP pt must be at a therapeutic range of fio2
I will look it up in my book tomorrow and let you know.
What's important for pre-licensure nursing is the concept of PEEP and it's relation to FiO2 and not so much that actual threshold . I'm sure it's different for RT students. :)
Rule for an RT is you never go past 60% unless emergency situation. Increase the PEEP after 60% fio2.
