DIY Re-Purposing a Carport into a Greenhouse

  • What do you do when you run out of greenhouse space? You improvise. Here's a little "how to" tutorial about how we created a new greenhouse space out of a free-to-us carport structure. This is a prefab Costco structure that was gifted to us and allowed us to add on extra growing space to our over flowing propagation greenhouses.

    I just bought one of these from a neighbor for 50 bucks, 10.5x20 exactly like this one only mine has turnbuckles in between each pole on the roof, 4 poles I believe, I knew I couldn't be the only one to have this vision😊, thanks for the easy tutorial now it doesn't feel so daunting to tackle 👏

    Best simplified instruction video I've seen so far to repurpose a carport to greenhouse. I have two and am planning to set them end to end for a veggie greenhouse. Mostly for my benefit but a little interest in selling some. Thanks!

      Thank you so much! Two end to end should give you some great growing space....we've definitely gotten more use out of ours as a greenhouse than we ever would have as a carport :)

    I just saw one made this way and I asked how he did this and he sent me here. Fantastic. We have winter here so was wondering about if it will do good through it. Plus there was comments on venting, someone mentioned about rolling up,,, what section do you roll up if everything is stapled down ? As you can see, I am a newbie. Thank you

    I used your process on an old carport I have, but I pulled the plastic on the end walls first then I wrapped the sides and the top. I would have had rain coming in on the end walls had I not. Are you having this problem?

    • @RainDropFarms

      Hey there! We don't have a lot of snow, no, but the snow we do get is heavy. We end up having to clear the greenhouses every time it snows.

    Great greenhouse! One suggestion is if you live in a place that gets snow it is good to have it far enough from a building that the snow sliding off the greenhouse and the building don't build up on the side of the greenhouse or it can rip the plastic.

    • @RainDropFarms
      @RainDropFarms  7 років тому +1

      Good point, we don't have but a skiff of snow ever few years, but I could see how that could disastrous if you had sliding snow

    • @michaels9926
      @michaels9926 7 років тому

      I have two converted carports four feet apart. Here in South West BC we hardly get any snow but last month we got a record amount breaking 60 year records. I have about four feet between them but snow piled up over three feet between the cold frames pushing in the plastic. I have side flaps so the plastic would have been easy to replace but my lettuce wouldn't have liked it. I didn't even think about the snow when I set them up. I guess with all this "global warming" we need to be careful. I enjoy your channel. Lots of good tips. :0)
