You just said “ zoom, zoom, zoom, which reminds me of a song the daughter of my friend made up when she was about five: I’m gonna zoom, zoom, zoom around the room, room, room. I’m gonna zoom around the room and praise the Lord. Heaven’s gates are open wide and I’ll sit by Jesus’ side, I’m gonna zoom around the room and praise the Lord! Sorry about the yard being closed.

You know the new challenge of scrap times I like to remember what I learned about routine changes is the greatest unexplored area lays under your hat. You already are thinking a change in routine. It's not always comfortable to change but lots of good can come from it. You rock Paul.

The best advice is how you've ended your videos, prayer and then be you, do you and have a great day. You'll do great and get it figured out. One thing is the days will start getting darker earlier. 😊

I think you should get a small trailer. When you get back to you house offload into the trailer, when it's full off load on the ground. Only go to the 10 mile away scrapyard when you've got a FULL truck and trailer. You can manage the grocery shopping on an "as needed" basis.

The best advice I can give you is for you to do something you won't like. That is market yourself. Hit up some auto repair shops, plumbing repair places and such. Let them know you are available to haul off the metal they don't want to deal with.

I go scrapping around 5pm- 7pm and find it works best. Early enough to try and beat other scrappers but late enough for home owners to put out their trash for the next day pickup.

From a business point of view I think you need to consider a few things. 1 What does each scrap yard pay for your products? 2 How far is each yard away from a particular point? 3 What is the price of gas, and what does it cost you (MPG) to go to each place? These all figure into your ROI (Return on Investment). It should be clear which one is best for your business.

I’ve found out recently that I find a lot of stuff the day before garbage day around 10 or 12 o’clock. Motivated people who are cleaning up around the house want to get rid of it quickly. They are aware of the trove of scrappers out there so it hits the street and it’s gone before they even bring the garbage cans out. These videos have made scrapping a thing. Every body is doing it.

Yes, consistency is a queue, You may need to go to bed earlier so you can get up earlier. I’m in California and I collect a lot of California redemption value, yes, I take the aluminum the plastic and all glass and I’m very consistent at it. I want to leave no stone unturned when I’m taking it out of dumpsters. I do all I can to keep from climbing into the dumpster as in someplaces that is not advised.. I have to go 21 miles to the nearest recycle center so I bring a large load all that I can and go once a week at most, I like every other week, but that leaves me behind with extra recycle to turn in so three times a month is enough! For you, you’d have to stockpile your scrap in separate piles and when one gets up large enough for a load, that’s what you take that week, but it takes a lot more room and a lot of organization.
    Wishing you well, Paul.

Hi Paul. I'm not a scrapper/picker but after watching you and a number of others on UA-cam I keep my eyes and ears open for those who are. I work for a transportation service where I drive all around my town picking up people in a car and taking them to medical appointments. I've come across some people who have junk to get rid of and so I let some scrappers know about these people who need stuff hauled away. I let one woman know about one man and his nephew who are scrappers/pickers because she needed a garage and some stuff cleaned out of a basement of a home her folks used to own and her dad did some plumbing and handyman work on the side while he was retired. Now that he's passed away she is needing to sell the house. Later, the man and his nephew told me that the junk in the garage and basement were old tools, work tables and movable storage cabinets with boxes of unused brass and copper fittings, elbows, tubing, and pipe. Plus he had barrels and buckets of scrap copper, brass and aluminum. They cleaned out the garage and basement for free, which made the woman happy, but he sold all the unused copper and brass fittings, tubing and pipes as well as the tools and work benches. I forgot what he got for all the scrap but it was substantial and he still hasn't sold the storage cabinets but the last I remember it was around a couple of thousand for the unused stuff and tools. Sometimes having a business card to give to people who might need some stuff hauled away might help out with the dry spell you're having but either way I'll pray that someone asks you to haul away a small fortune in copper, brass and aluminum. Take care of yourself Paul.

I'm jealous Paul. I have not been able to go out scrapping since 4th of July weekend. The motor in my 26 year old F150 decided it was too tired and wandered off to Valhalla. The station down the street from me wanted $4500 to replace it and not with a new or rebuilt but with a used one. I left them while muttering a few choice expressions in Ukrainian. If I was 30 years younger I would replace it myself like in the good old days. A few buddies, some old beverages, something for the grill and a weekend was all we needed but too old for that . That's young men's work. Keep up the faith brother.

  • @tommywilliamson2103

Paul my brother and friend you know what the scrapping is like in your area better than most of us would. You know when the other scrappers seem to be out and about. If you see them out more often in the morning then I would suggest evening or night scraping to get ahead of them. Since you are having to drive further I would suggest that you look at waiting until you have a full load.
Most importantly is pray about it and let the Lord guide your decision
A few weeks ago the show runner of the farmers market decided that she was going to move us from our central location to the end that most vendors don’t like to be because we had missed several weeks this season. It really upset my wife. Yesterday though we were talking during slow time and decided to make that our permanent spot because we both are getting lots more traffic. Long story is that sometimes change in routine is good.

Hey Paul, if the scrapyard is closed for some time, consider getting a trailer. Load that up first, then you can leave it at your place while the next day you load up your ute. Then take both when cashing it in, will save some fuel.
Also, when you come across microwaves, take the transformer out, it takes 3min. You seem to collect quite a few in a short time. The $ vs your time is worth it.
All in all, you're doing a great job!

And I would like to make a comment. About what you should do I hear your dilemma?
But I don't know why you cannot go to your scrap. Companies, but if you have to go once a week just continue to scrap as you do and then I see your new fence. If you're not doing anything with that, just start stop piling your scrap according to the metal. And then when you have a truck full load it and go for 10 miles. Take care, Paul. I really enjoy your scrapping. I've been watching your scrapping for the last 2 years. And I really enjoyed it. Paul, I suggest you sort your “goodies” at home in your new fenced area. Then only make trips to the scrap yard when you have a FULL load. You could even make ‘bin partitions’ out of some palettes. That would keep your yard presentable and items would not be visible from the street. Also, by taking truckloads you will be able to go to the place that has the best price on one type of scrap! Good luck and just listen on those quiet times, God will let you know what to do.

  • @fatfred1234

Don't go to the yard with less than a truck full! It will mean unload every day in your yard, because you don't want to find a treasure chest and be full. When you have a truck full go cash out. Hey Paul, you have gotten a lot of good advice regarding scrapping, so I am not going to add to it. Instead, I am going concentrate on the food issue. The way to stop food waste is meal planning. Plan for the week, then grocery shop for the week. Stick to the plan. Is it easy, no, but you will benefit financially plus so will your health. Start out planning for two days, then three and so on. It would also be an interesting video series. Love your fur babies. 💕

Paul what if you printed a few cards or flyers and when you pick up metal at a house slide your card of flyer into their mailbox. On it thank them for putting their metal on the curb to help the landfill, to help American manufacturing, to keep prices down by not having to buy foreign metal, etc. Then put your name and number on their and ask them to let you know if they have any more you would be happy to pick it up. A little more work for you to deal with responding and organizing pickups but I bet the returns will be a lot bigger. Also you are not dependent on garbage day to be your day to pick up. Hope this helps.

I would say you have to cut back on going to the scrapyard everyday and these bed rails you always pick up cost 50 or 60 dollars new If there is a market for them try selling some , maybe not all ,who knows You could pick up more resale items while you're out If you try certain types of items over and over you may gain a person or two who'll rely on you to sell to them like smaller furniture or outdoor metal items Because if the person redoing furniture doesn't have time to drive around to find stuff and fix it for resale and most people who resell larger furniture may not have a truck so you deliver in your area it's well worth it to them to buy off you Snap a picture they respond right away and you pick it up and no response you drive on or maybe you could deliver different things in your area for certain people that resell when you aren't scrapping but I kinda think you like randomness on your days so delivery may be too rigid of a time restraint for you That's my ten cents for today 💚💚💜💖💙🇨🇦🦩 Stay Happy 💫✨🌟✨

Paul. You find things all the time that have value. Take some and repair if needed or more things like the mowers that you sell to the mower man. Also was thinking that you contact auto repair shops and buy the rotors, etc, 20-25% of what you get scrap rate. Get things to where they call you instead of all the gas you spend. Good luck and love watching your channel.

I get really crappy prices for light steel here in the Northeast. I'm a total newbie scrapper, but already have seen the value of breaking stuff down. I had 400lbs of shred today at 25 bucks. I got 57 bucks for 100lbs of aluminim copper ac rads and 3 big magnetic ballasts. I noticed you toss a lot of stuff as light iron. Youre missing out on Non ferrous. Of course, i dont know your financial situation, so it might not be worth your time to micro scrap. Also, maybe add some dumpster diving? I also am an artist, and use a lot of trash parts in my art that I sell at art shows. New subscriber here as well!

Maybe get a trailer and move stuff daily to it from the truck. When trailer and truck are full, hook up the trailer and head to the scrap yard. I don’t know how much a trailer costs; if too expensive, this may not be a useful suggestion. But it would cut down on unloading and reloading so it would save time & effort.

Evening scrapping is probably a good thing to shift towards at least for a while. See how that works and maybe try some dark scrapping. Particularly since winter is coming.

Hi Paul, maybe keep your daily route for scrap but only go to the distant scrap yard fewer times a week. I like your new fence at your house.

I’m not sure if you have many apartment complexes near you, but I’ve befriended some of the maintenance guys and A/C guys who will call me when they have appliances and A/C unit for me to haul away. I break things down and, like you, I stockpile the good stuff until I am going to town. The steel I take local because it pays good.

Hello Paul. I'm not set up yet to go scrapping , but a VET here in Des Moines was having the same situation you are in , and I gave him some ideas , and they worked really well for him . First thing he did was made up magnetic 4-color business card for people to stick on their fridge etc. That card directed them to his website. He made a video that appealed to people to text him when they had some scrap . They leave the stuff up close to the house . That works really well . Also , he goes around to all the repair garages who hate when their scrap piles up , and he gets a lot of stuff from them . God Bless you , your family , and your furbabies. From the Colonel .

You need to invest in some magnet fishing gear Paul. For when you see those Dumpsters with Metal in that you cannot get normally. Strong Magnet short stout line and a heavy duty hookpole.

Just go to the yard when your truck is full of shred, take out the non ferrous each day, and build your loads around that. Make your route take into account the location of the new yard so your yard day coincides with it 👍

just an idea of another source is contact your local medical equipment supplier and ask what they do with old medical beds, rails, crutches, wheelchairs and the like. or any store that sells appliences many offer to take the old appliance away for free so need to get rid of them.

If you don't got a full load definitely go to the scrap yard maybe three times a week and you might want to go to different neighborhoods and see what's out there especially if scrappers are in your neighborhood

I’m not a scrapper but a reseller. I have been a reseller since 2016. I have had to constantly find new ways to source items and changed the places where I resell. The number of resellers exploded during Covid and continues to grow so competition to source items has become fierce. I’m sure it’s the same for scrappers. People don’t want to work traditional 9 to 5 jobs anymore. I love your channel and enjoy the dialogue more than anything! Maybe you could do something other than scrapping for your videos like the bike rides and tours of the town. I wish you the best and know that God will lead you on the right path.

I know you say you don't like going into peoples houses but maybe you could market yourself to the public saying you can do appliance removal if they bring it outside and you'd do it for free. Like someone else said i'd also look into talking to auto repair shops and plumbing companies to see if they'd let you pick up scrap from them. I would also say maybe experiment with reselling things; maybe browse websites like craigslist and look for free stuff there could be scrap lurking on there too. Evening scrapping might workout better since other scrappers might not think of that lol.

Hi Paul, I think that if you continue to scrap like this, first, I'd ask Mike when the scrap yard is going to open. Since you're not getting as much stuff, like you mentioned, I'd unload the truck at your home and wait until you get to large load before traveling 10 miles each way from the other scrap yard. Gas is not cheap, as you well know. Maybe you could do some micro scapping in between your trips to the other scrap yard. Just a thought, my friend! Great video, as always, Paul! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
