I really want to have a beer with Steve. He just seems like a genuine and cool as hell guy. Glad my MTOD sub is going to good folks. His voice is really chill too. Keep it up everyone!
Every now and then, you come across a person who you can really identify with. I have been rebuilding cars since the early eighties, and have been inspired by Hot Rod magazine my whole life. Steve, thanks for all the tips and knowledge over the years. Can't think of a better way to spend my free time than in your garage.
So many cars get the backyard bench cocktail of fiberglass and fillers. It'll hold up for a while. That cardboard absorbed alot of the essentail resons and epoxies needed to be durable. Im gonna hate to see that hood in a couple years though. If it lasts that long. Prob be changed over again in a few months. Steve and Dave are super cool cats that are livin the dream. Ive watched that car be built like 7 differant ways over the years. I was a kid when frieburger found it at the scrap yard and done the first build. Still got the magizine somewhere. I would love to come cali and be part of their crusher camaro shanannagins. Steves house is the coolest mopar safe haven in the world. I wonder what hes got hidden they havent showed us. Im sure there's somethin extremly cool and valuable hiding out in those weeds. Awesome show! Thanks guys
Trail's End I know it made a differance, and so does steve d. He commented when he did it. Get a education and some product knowledge before making urself look like a douche bag again. They sell wax paper onion boards for a reason. Notice the oil like ring left on the cardboard after done wipin the filler? Thats the resons that need to be in the product not the mix board. Ive done it too, and it bit me in the ass a few years later. Whatever floats ur boat though, you arent paintin any cars for livin. Not for too long anyways.
J Rod I've mixed on cardboard for years and my coworker has done so for over 20 years.. we make top fuel drag car bodies put of fiberglass and also carbon fiber.. I think I'm familiar with it.. have you ever even seen the inside of a can of that stuff? It's never mixed perfectly.. you're just stupid and pretentious.
Cardboard makes zero difference, that is something salesman tell people to get them to buy mixing products and materials. The quality of the filler & the way its applied are what makes it last or not last. Get some real experience and stop parroting what you read or hear!
Great video Dulcich..... you need to do more DIY/how to vids. I would love to sit and drink beers with you and Frieberger. Oh and to hell with any and all negative comments. Much respect, to you and the knowledge you pass on.
a neat trick a seen once was someone trowing the thickened resin intoo a thick plastic bag and then cut a small corner of one end he then used it as a cake decorator and squeesed the plastic bag laying down a nice bead al along the part needing to be bonded , saves a lot of mess and time too he used some sort of glass beads intoo normal resin to thicken it enough to use it to stick the deck and the hull of a speedboat together , whent on like squeesing toothpaste out of a tube
Push it up threw the hole from the bottom, rough up the mating surfaces and secure it with resin and pop rivets. Setup maybe takes a little more time, but you get to keep the 2" flanges and blending is so much easier...
Exactly! And use proper tools and saftey for starters. Then use ITW Plexus adhesives. Dish out the radius to apply mat to prevent cracking then a ultra thin skim of filler. That would prevent hidius build up and questionable structural integrity
Why do it from the top? Flip the hood (leave the 2 inch lip on the cowl) and glass it into the the hood from the bottom? The only thing needed on the top of the hood would be to fill in any gaps between the cowl and the hole made in the hood. That would leave the lines of the hood clean instead of raised around the cowl. Just a thought.
When I saw the thumbnail for this vid in my feed I nearly thought you'd roped Edd China in to do some stuff with you... on that note, that would be a super cool crossover!!
the internet is a place where people come to watch other people and then complain about what the other people are doing "because, they would have done it a different BETTER way" its kind of sad what has become of the youtube and social media platform's
That's just how people are and how they learn. If you tell somebody how to do something he won't learn and nobody will care. If you show how to do something and make mistakes, everybody on the internet will tell you how to do it right. That's just the way people learn and get involved, through anger lol. Ah to be human.
It depends on how UA-camrs handle their channels. Motor Trend is really bad at connecting with their subscribers so you see more salty comments as a result.
Kyle Baker Couldn't have said it better myself Kyle. Doesn't matter what they do or how they do it there's always some whinging, whining expert on this or that. Sometimes you're wrong, sometimes you're right I think they call it "life". Maybe it makes them feel better (or maybe they just need a hug) Can we just enjoy being car nuts and the videos these car nuts are giving us?
Why did you not install the scoop from the inside instead? Wouldn't it be cleaner and easier to do it that way and with almost no chance of it flying off if any one of those epoxies / fillers didn't set right? Epoxy it from the inside and use the screws exactly the same way you did on the outside, except on the inside. You could leave them there forever this way and have both the epoxy as well as the mechanical fasteners in place for extra security. Then on the outside surface you'd have a lot less filler and bondo to add to smooth it out so it should look better and be stronger overall. If I'm wrong on that please tell me why. I'm not a body guy but it seemed logical to me to do it that way.
Thanks for the tips sir, question though - why not push the hood scoop in from the bottom of the new hood? Wouldn't the edges of the hood then butt up against the scoop? Thank you.
I also colour the area under the scoop so when you cut the hole from the underside you can just paint the cut edge and the bonding material for a neater finish.
would it work if you cut a slightly bigger hole and and fitted the scoop from the underside so you don't have to blend it in from the top? that way any blending you need to do would be from the under side where nobody would see it?
just wondering shy you didn't use cordless to tek screw the scoop when placing scoop to hood during bonding? But you did use it when removing screws...
Why weren't the hood flanges bonded from under the hood for a flush finish and rigidity? Personally, i would have cut slots to feed the flanges into, bonded from the inside.
I picked up a couple years ago, the neighbors a 64 1/2 hipo mustang, it spent most of its life as a drag car. It has a 'vintage' scoop like this on it, BUT it has the LARGE hole in the front. (hood was cut to be functional ram air). Which is 'time period correct'? ram air or Cowl induction? My hipo IS a old drag car, and Ram air.
Steve it will not last long, Why you say? Because Long Strand is not a bonding agent. that scoop will go air born someday. You need to remove all signs of gel coat or tool gel coat you need to get down to fiberglass, than mix up some laminating resin wet areas to be glassed use some Fiberglass mat several layers than let cure than grind until you itch like crazy than body work it. Good luck dude, You grow grapes I build and repair Boats..
In no way an expert, but was wondering why you wouldn't cut a slot for the scoop to slide into the hood and attach it from the bottom and inside. The hole is cut afterwards from the underside. I think it would be a much cleaner look and less body work.
Yeah, that's not how fiberglass works. That thing will delaminate . Laminating resin and mat bonded to the fiberglass parts with gel coat removed from both parts first. That's from the top and that's the shortcut way. But it should be done from the bottom to be right, but that's the long way.
Card board can Rob your hardener from your body filler, but if your considering using cardboard just keep it mixed in a small area & add a little extra hardener. Or buy a plastic board......your already their & they're $5
Love me some Dulcich expertise. No glossy BS, some clumsiness, very relatable and very inspirational. Go Steve !
Keep on trucking (from France) !
Dulcich definitely partied in the 70s.
I was actually thinking that same thing...lol
just a little
You talking about when the temperature was in the 70s this morning?
Most definitely
Just fumes ...................... oh look a gnat .
I really want to have a beer with Steve. He just seems like a genuine and cool as hell guy. Glad my MTOD sub is going to good folks. His voice is really chill too. Keep it up everyone!
The more I watch these, the more I think Dulcich (sp?) should have his own series!
Chillin on the Dodge farm with Dulcich.
I was thinking puppet show.
This is the kind of roadkill extra that I like. Where it’s a slightly longer video, on one topic, but really into depth and a lot more informative.
Every now and then, you come across a person who you can really identify with. I have been rebuilding cars since the early eighties, and have been inspired by Hot Rod magazine my whole life. Steve, thanks for all the tips and knowledge over the years. Can't think of a better way to spend my free time than in your garage.
I have really come to appreciate everything Dulcich
hands down the best tech vids around. dulcich is just so entertaining to watch. and hes too smart. more tech vids!!
I just love watching Steve working in all of his clumsiness. Keep it up “Dulcheck” :)

J Rod you're too stupid for your own good if you think that cardboard made any sort of difference..
Trail's End
I know it made a differance, and so does steve d. He commented when he did it. Get a education and some product knowledge before making urself look like a douche bag again. J Rod do you know what soaked in to the cardboard? Resin.. do you know what he added?.. resin..

Whoever does the audio levels/mixing needs a slap. Loud as feck at about 8:30
IKR, i nearly spat out my morning coffee with the sound of that sander thing.
Even amateur channels that have only been around a couple of years have learned to turn the audio of air tools WAAAAY down...
Sounds prety fuckin lady like
yup, had to manually work the volume on this one lol
Big_Adam_2050 so does whoever installs a fiberglass scoop instead of steel on a classic lol
I like this guy. This is how I bonded on my cowl to make room for the big block and big carb. No regrets
No gloves, no goggles, no guard, no worries 😂
The only thing I would care about here is a better mask or respirator.
euan begbie it'll be fine..😉
Dulcich don't care!!
The safety brain cells burned out years ago with too many resin fumes.
That’s the Roadkill credo:
Doing the right thing the wrong way!
10/10 Dulchich's tutorials provide both info and entertainment.
I have an MTOD subscription and seriously, it's awesome
I always liked you Dulcich. You my friend are a Brilliant man.
Donnie
Always good to see the Crusher get some love.
Great video Dulcich..... you need to do more DIY/how to vids. I would love to sit and drink beers with you and Frieberger. Oh and to hell with any and all negative comments. Much respect, to you and the knowledge you pass on.
The Old Cat nodded. He likes Dulchic as he is an animal lover. I like him too as he just a regular guy who loves his hobby, animals, and freedom.
This guy is my favorite youtube car personalities.
Grumpy Jenkins,that brings back memories.

Someone hire that man an electrician to fix that breaker box at 9:06 before we lose Dulcich to a fire.
at least put the dead front on
Freiburger and Finnegan are cool, but Dulcich is next level.
Would have done it from the underside. That way all you have to pay attention is the radius.
Exactly! And use proper tools and saftey for starters. Then use ITW Plexus adhesives. Dish out the radius to apply mat to prevent cracking then a ultra thin skim of filler. That would prevent hidius build up and questionable structural integrity
Nor'easter Playa I'm curious what you think the "proper" tools are?
When i saw the lip, i thought he would put it in from the underside. Maybe would have been more work, but would have looked better in the end.
I love this guy, he has an awesome vibe.
SO LOUD
Dulcich is the James May of Roadkill
6:02 does Steve dip or does he use the cans for hardware containers lol
Dulcich is the shop teacher I had missing fingers and never wear protection except for a bib and prescription safety glasses .
Why do it from the top?

Dulcich is the man
Another fine piece of Dulcich butchery
Steve, wear some safety glasses brother,
we want you to retain your eyeballs for more episodes here!
I also colour the area under the scoop so when you cut the hole from the underside you can just paint the cut edge and the bonding material for a neater finish.
When he slammed the scoop down on accident I had to pause the video and rewind cause I was laughing so hard
The most intriguing part of this video was spotting the Attic 'Cuda.
Hands off the crusher
definitely enjoyed this thanks Steve
Dulcich? Fantastic!
would it work if you cut a slightly bigger hole and and fitted the scoop from the underside so you don't have to blend it in from the top? that way any blending you need to do would be from the under side where nobody would see it?
that is probaly the way i would have done it. that way if it does manage to brake loose, it wont fly away.
Dulcich would look at home in purple velvet knickers and coat with a little Lord Fauntleroy haircut.
just wondering shy you didn't use cordless to tek screw the scoop when placing scoop to hood during bonding? But you did use it when removing screws...
He didn’t want to over tighten and squish out too much of the material
Been using cardboard to mix my filler since 1978... never heard it was a no no...
Why not to mount it from under the hood? That way the bonded surface is hidden under the hood and the whole setup can be built to look very neat.
I had glasstech fenders on my ranger
Pro-tip: sparks from the cut off disk WILL melt your windshield or any glass, if you're doing this on the car cover it up
It's like watching the Swedish Chef of Hot Rods.
Good job Steve.
POLL:
Which adds more hp? Grump lump on 74 Nova or dropping the 240lbs of bumpers?
Imma have to go with grump lump
Why weren't the hood flanges bonded from under the hood for a flush finish and rigidity? Personally, i would have cut slots to feed the flanges into, bonded from the inside.

Where did you guys get the scoop
Are y’all doin a 75th episode race
Steve it will not last long, Why you say? Because Long Strand is not a bonding agent. that scoop will go air born someday. You need to remove all signs of gel coat or tool gel coat you need to get down to fiberglass, than mix up some laminating resin wet areas to be glassed use some Fiberglass mat several layers than let cure than grind until you itch like crazy than body work it.
Good luck dude, You grow grapes I build and repair Boats..
Does dulcich dip? There’s a can of Copenhagen at 6:14
Steve your awesome don't pay attention to these haters !!
I use a 1/2 to 3/8 drill bit in the 4 inside corners before cutting for radius corners. Easier than a jigsaw.
Any reason why you couldn't pass it up through from under the hood?
That electrical plug inst up to code on that sub panel at 10:20 Dulcich. #firehazard
Dulcich is awesome
dulcich is a cool guy
Thanks Steve!
Dulcich is like will Ferrell’s car guy brother
is that a CUDA in the attic ?
This guys definitely does not need safety goggles.
In no way an expert, but was wondering why you wouldn't cut a slot for the scoop to slide into the hood and attach it from the bottom and inside. The hole is cut afterwards from the underside. I think it would be a much cleaner look and less body work.
Yeah, that's not how fiberglass works.

Laminating resin and mat bonded to the fiberglass parts with gel coat removed from both parts first.
That's from the top and that's the shortcut way.
But it should be done from the bottom to be right, but that's the long way.
love the special effects @9:10 lmao
to make the radius in the corners you can do holes with a drill, its easier
Found this guy on Craigslist?
What about scuffing hood and scoop for better adhesion?
Does not even clean off paint or use a degreaser
Steverino need his own channel.
Upvoting at 0:00 because FUCK YES
Nailed it ...Now Iam giong to do mine
"Grumpy Jenkins." :-)
Wait! What happened to the LS motor? ..did I miss something???
Is this gentleman really a bodyman as mentioned above?
arent you meant to cut the hole and put these in from underneath to minimise filler ontop?
why not bond from the bottom of the hood so the flange is on the under side?
if any of you see the finished product it's like glass and is not coming off. so what's the problem?
Every time something cool comes up on mtod I’m like “sweet, this is why I pay for this” Then they pop up on UA-cam for free. What am I paying for?
Man I wish this guy was my uncle!
Glad it's not a fake hoodscoop
Wouldn't it have been better to use the factory type panel bond adhesive they use to put corvette bodies together?
Has an electric drill sitting on the table --> screws in like 28 screws by hand.
just wanted to say that I'm itching just watching that fiberglass cutting action go down. That is all.
This seems like way too much work for Roadkill. Just use pop rivets.
But I know the Crusher Camaro isn't really a Roadkill car
Pff who even needs a hood when you can show off that beautiful engine
Why does all the intelligent car guys have crazy hair styles man cut that hair hippy lol
cheap cutting boards make great body filler mixing boards. after you use it scrape off the extra and wipe it off with lacquer thinner.
Card board can Rob your hardener from your body filler, but if your considering using cardboard just keep it mixed in a small area & add a little extra hardener. Or buy a plastic board......your already their & they're $5
We shall call him Dutch boy 😝😝😝😝
10:05 I'm dying. Creepy old unicorn. Lmao
Why not fit it from the underside I always do it can be a really tight fit and then just use paintable silicone sealant it gives a factory finish.
He would get heaps of splinters from the fibreglass
