@@ianswift3521ideo did work on this game as designer and it was his idea to make this game more of a rpg style compare to first game. Due to lack of programming skill he did work as assistant so even tho his ideas were implemented he is not technically credited.

He also made The Maze of Galiouis... and I wish we had a full staff for "The Goonies" somewhere, because I'm willing to bet some money he was also involved on that game. All of those games have a lot in common in terms of finding secrets and items.
Death Stranding being the spiritual successor to this game is my personal head cannon, and not even Kojima himself would be able to convince me otherwise.
Damn, I literally just came up with this idea about an hour ago and you beat me to it 😂 It's like the game about carrying around a foetus was also a game about Kojima going through a rebirth of sorts by reimagining the first game he made for Konami and establishing a new start point for his career away from the baggage of his time with Konami and the Metal Gear franchise
his start is basically AT the end. He must save the princess who is sick. So he LEAVES the place and returns to the same place. In the middle of the way is a tree with a fruit that can cure the princess. He gets it and takes it back to the princess.

I feel the same - it looks better than a lot of NES games to me as well. The pseudo-3D is really effective, and I think the cartoonish graphics really help convey it on limited hardware power.
Me and my friend played this so much that we got to the end without dying once... but we never found the warp tunnel.. so we never won at the time. Doubt I'd have those reflexes today. Great memories.

Got the collection while it was still a $10 game off a messageboard (Digital Press forums to be exact), it's a $100+ game now for the Saturn, the PS1 version was split over 3 discs (10 games per disc, while the Saturn one had all 30 on one disc), and each disc is over $100 now.
There are a surprising number of longplays for this awesome and relatively obscure game. The Forest Path track is one of the best video game songs ever made, standing up against the OSTs of Super Mario Land, Marble Madness, Banjo-Kazooie, Metroid(NES), Super Hydlide and Tetris(NES) as equals, way overpassing things like Okkusenman.

Damn near anything from Kirkhope & Wise stand very close to this and Jake Kaufman has made some utterly fantastic pieces (Might Swap Force being IMO his best so far). It's all great music and I am very glad it doesn't get stomped on from copyright like basically all other music does

The info about getting the good ending is wrong. You just have to pause the game once, or any amount of times that equals to 1+N*4 , where N can be any integer number - i.e 1, 5, 9, 13, etc. This game is just wonderful. Played it a lot when I was a kid. It's a fantastic game, and an MSX exclusive.

As was said above, 1, 5, 9 and 13 are all one more than a multiple of 4 (the doubly even numbers), thus they can be called the set 4n+1. Any of those numbers are the number of pauses needed to unlock the game's good ending.

@DandomRassed because he first had to get the apple in the end of level 12, or else he wouldn't be able to cure the princess. Also it's not even close to be the hardest game on MSX. But it was pretty hard indeed :D
One if the holes you are avoiding and jumping over is a ( secret underground route) it will make you skip few stages and reach the end faster but I can’t remember how to know which one .. I know the smaller one is for the shop but there is one big one if I’m not mistaken we buy the ( 🛎 bell to give you a heads up by ringing few seconds before that secret underground hole) I think it’s the one comes on the right if you’re running on the left or on the left if you’re on the right.. can’t remember it’s been almost 30 years since I played this game
