I use my over a decade old HeadRoom Total Bithead DAC connected via USB into a Bose Soundlink Color II. Going directly out with a standard jack from my laptop was so noisy and horrible, output this way is isolated and sounds amazing. I used this with headphones back in the iPod days, and it works amazing well today plugged into my MacMini M1 :-D
One extremely common misconception is an Amplifier just amplifies the sound and is for hard to drive headphones to push the volume where your devices can't. That's entirely false, I've used a few different pairs of headphones with a Scarlett Solo and 8i6 which I use for my microphone and compared to the PC itself, it'll run headphones when a PC won't. My Schiit Magni Heresy sounds better and my Schiit Asgard 3 sounds even better again with the same headphones on all devices, the more expensive component sounds noticeably cleaner and wider. Then you factor an external DAC in to the equation and you can get even better sound on top of just the external Amplifier. For a gaming headset, I don't think my interface or my Magni + Modi really made any difference besides maybe cleaning the noise out of the sound if there was any, but I'm curious to try my old Kraken V2 with my Asgard 3 and Bifrost 2 for fun.
that may lead to grounding issues and impact the quality of the audio (hissing). usually want to plug the headset and audio plugs into the only one system. either both into the amp/dac, or both into the motherboard

Can you plug the headphone from the headset (green) into a DAC, and then the mic (red) into your PC's motherboard with an extension cable?
