Have been watching utube clips of absolutely fabulous musicians above recently and others ....... Joan Chamorro and his students. One of whom is a star in the making.......... You all know who I am talking about...... What jazz is all about.... It was called apropriately " The sound of surprise"
I very much agree with the comments praising the performance. Simply Fantastic! I must also give special credit to the drummer Joan Aleix Mata. He plays with a great groove, like always. But this time he also does a super-elegant and subtle recovery after losing a drum stick in the middle of drum interlude.
Fantastic! Reminds me of the Mel Torme/Marty Paich recordings. GREAT! Andrea, your vocal is powerful! It's so great to hear her and Luigi and all these students emerging from the imitations of students into true artists themselves. Bravo! Maestro Chamorro is my hero!
Andrea's trumpet solo, it's like Red Rodney lives again; sax solo, nice tribute to Charlie Rouse . Also a nice trombone solo. The whole band sounds great. Love Andrea's singing.
I couldn't help but notice the similarity of the chord changes to that old jazz standard, The Gypsy". Except for that figure leading into the bridge and the ending, they're pretty close. I'm not that sure about the bridge, I mainly noticed the first eight. Hey, lots of jazz tunes are based on other tunes changea; it doesn't really matter. I'm familiar with the Gypsy but had never heard Social Call until now... and I like it!
It's not really very similar to 'The Gypsy' in terms of chord sequence. Perhaps you are confusing 'The Gypsy' with "I'm In The Mood For Love" - which is very similar to Social Call (apart from the bridge).

Find the Bette Carter version. That's the standard.
