As someone who grew up in a middle-class home but hasn't been able to maintain that on my own as an adult, this spoke to me. I basically don't know how to survive as a poor person because I didn't grow up poor.
Being poor is all about being resourceful and McGuivering your way through life.

nooobsaibot it's a joke but it is indeed partly a real phenomenon. Experienced homeless people know all kinds of tricks to survive and will actually get a kick out of seeing a newly homeless person struggle to learn the ropes. I wouldn't call it bigotry but it is one of very few times that homeless people do feel a small sense of superiority over another human

What’s sad is how accurate this is years later. Today homelessness is worse than ever, and there is over crowding in homeless communities. A lot of the older homeless are actually very irritated with new homeless joining/try to impose some order or “standards”.

I like how Onion tells it as it is with satire, yet "regular" news is so controlled and jaded it's like listening to a bad formula for writing stories. But, my enjoyment of Onion goes much deeper than just the clips you see, it's when someone takes it serious that I am really entertained. I got into a huge flamewar on another youtube about the bear attack with a guy arguing with me.
