I subbed, because you are fishing my single favorite river in the entire world. When I was a kid, I'd run my gheenoe from our camp near Brooksville, up to silver lake and beyond to the Little With.. and down, it's a strange river in the way it flows. First Big Bass, First Gator, First love, all on or beside that river.. I used to run around all over hog Island, as a kid.
I appreciate it an Thanks for sharing your story an your right it is a strange river for the way it flows but definitely some great fishing!! Thanks again for watching!
I grew up fishing and hunting in Florida. Now I live in the desert and nowhere near as much outdoor fun. Lots I miss about florida and watching your video made me homesick even though I haven't been in Florida for 25 + years
I hope you can 1 day get back an enjoy once again what you grew up doing here in Florida! Thanks for sharing your story an Thanks for watching I do appreciate it!!
Any time I see big bream or huge shellcrackers in the title I have to pull over and see for myself. Chicken liver ? I don't like using them even for cats but I can't argue with your success. They are pretty , here in NC most of our waters are black ( tea ) colored making bream black with copper trim. Big bream here start at 1 lb. Shellcracker same but don't wet ya pants with a 1.5 even 2 lbs. Fishy looking hole you got there. Thanks for sharing.
Just stumbled across this. Man I just loved it. This is the old fashioned way of cleaning fish. Years ago I couldn’t figure out why my bluegill just didn’t taste as good as they used to. I had switched from cleaning them like you show to filleting them and removing the skin and scales with the knife. I didn’t want to pick out the bones. What I came to realize is the skin on a bluegill has a layer of fat underneath that when you fillet them you lose a lot of flavor. I went back to cleaning them like you do , leaving skin on, and I got to tell you they are 100 times better that way. Plus like you say, those crispy fins are so tasty. They are the cherry on top! definitely hitting the subscribe button to this channel!
That's a great way of describing the fileting the blue gills vs just scaling them. I really do appreciate that for sure. Sorry about the late response, thanks for watching an subbing I do preciate that!!! 👍

Man, that looks like a sweet fishing spot. Who would guess that you would be catching Bluegill like that with chicken liver and the size hook that you were using at first. Hello from SC...when I was younger I fished as much as I could. Then (I made a big mistake) when I got out of school and started working full time. I worked in commercial Nuclear power during maintenance outages, 12 hours a day, 6 days a week - quit fishing 'cause I didn't have the time or energy. Working those hours will turn a young man into an old man really fast. The stress of work and all those hours started to break me down physically and mentally. One day you wake up and realize 20 years has gone by...... One day I decided that I didn't want to live to work, I wanted to work so I could live. I started to "make time to fish again", and it changed my life (as well as saving my life). Fishing gave me an outlet for my stress, my exhaustion, my short temper and I could totally relax again. It got to the point where I could honestly "feel the stress leaving my body", it was/is a wonder drug, so to speak. I'm 66 years old now, an age I feel I never would have reached if I hadn't started fishing again. I apologize, didn't mean to write a novel brother....I've just been there, done that.

stumbled across this dude. very fun to watch. very southern. the only thing that would make it better and complete "the picture" is to know he is a God fearing man with a family who loves and welcomes all people (and not just those who look like him).
I love bream fishing... I learned a long time ago if you are catching fish you don't want to keep use a jig head.. For some reason they will not swallow the hook of a jig head.. Also if you don't want the skin on the fish, you can skin them the same way you would a catfish.. Skin and scales peel right off.. Great video!!!
Facts..!!! I do mine just like that, put the fillet knife under the skin at the tail and work my way up. The meal stays on without the skin bubbling up knocking it off.
I lived in SC through the 70s and the old timers always measured pan fish on the back of there hand not the palm of there hand. I always liked that idea. Put the lip on your middle finger and the tail towards your elbow. Give it a try I am sure you'll like it.

Bluegill good eating. Pound for pound they one of the hardest fighting fish out there. Didn't know they bite liver. Can't go wrong with cheese grits 😋. Good stuff.
