- In Mark 10:32-52, we find Jesus bravely leading the way into Jerusalem, where he knows he will suffer & die. He does this, as he says, because he “came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45, ESV). Unlike their Master, however, the disciples are still consumed with visions of glory, thinking that following Jesus is a ticket to power, influence and renown. Jesus must recalibrate their thinking, showing them that their path will be one of suffering too, and that the path to greatness is serving others rather than exercising power.
