I'm thinking of getting an SD633. What do you think of the preamps? I read that they have a higher noise floor than the 7xx series, or even the new prosumer MixPre 3/6 recorders. For example, would you use this for recording quiet ambient environments? Thanks.
Apologies for the late response. Here is an answer from Ian: I have used the 633 in all sorts of environments from loud street scenes to interiors with sound blankets set up off camera. The noise floor has never been an issue for my work. I have been lucky enough to work with cameras that got a line level from the 633 and recorded a mix and discrete tracks on the 633. A tough reliable machine.
... and here in late 2022 it's preamps are still among the best there is 👍
